This new documentary features rare video of Diana, Princess of Wales, speaking openly and candidly about her life and troubled marriage, along with new revealing interviews with some of her closest confidants. What emerges is the story of a shy young girl who was swept onto the world stage in 1980 and who died tragically in 1997 as one of the most famous women in the world, an independent, modern “people’s princess.”

In 1992, Diana, whose marriage was in trouble, was becoming increasingly isolated from the royal family. Believing that her popular appeal was her greatest strength, she hired speech coach Peter Settelen to help improve her public speaking and reinvent her public persona in the midst of personal strife. In a series of disarmingly frank videos shot by Settelen at Kensington Palace, a private Diana comes into view as she ultimately reveals her version of the events.

DIANA—HER STORY places the events of her life into historical context, revealing a nation hungry for what seemed to be a fairytale marriage between Charles and Diana. Further insight is provided through new in-depth interviews with those closest to Diana, including long-term trusted confidant James Colthurst, ballet teacher Anne Allan, private secretary Patrick Jephson and personal protection officer Ken Wharfe.

Nova, Eclipse Over AmericaMonday, Aug. 21, at 9 pm

Repeats Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 3 am; Wednesday, Aug. 23, at 8 pm; Thursday, Aug. 24, at 2 am; and Sunday, Aug. 27, at 5 pm

On Monday, Aug. 21, America’s eyes will be glued to the skies as the mainland United States experiences the first total solar eclipse since 1979, and the first to cross the country since 1918. NOVA will capture the spectacular event in a special presentation to air hours after it takes place.

This extraordinary cosmic spectacle will pass through 13 states, and everyone in the continental United States will have the opportunity to see at least a partial eclipse, making it the most widely viewed American eclipse of all time. Commencing at 10:15 am PDT (1:15 pm EDT), a lunar shadow 73 miles wide will take one hour and 33 minutes to travel from Oregon on the west coast to South Carolina on the east, allowing continuous observation for 90 minutes.

When the eclipse clears the United States at approximately 3 pm EST, NOVA will work quickly to pull together the footage being fed from various locations by satellite and internet. Then, just six hours after the eclipse has ended, “Eclipse Over America” will air. It will be NOVA’s quickest turnaround effort to date, requiring a remarkable collaboration between NOVA and PBS member stations to capture and share this once-in-a-lifetime experience with the entire nation.

Total Solar Eclipse LiveMonday, Aug. 21, at 2:30 pm

Tune in to witness a 100 percent total solar eclipse! Presented live from South Carolina, this program offers audiences not equipped with special glasses or viewing devices a safe way to view the eclipse, which is crossing the United States for the first time since 1918.

Folk Legends: Isn’t This a Time!Sunday, Aug. 6, at 6:30 pm

Repeats Saturday, Aug. 12, at 3 am and 8 pm, and Sunday, Aug. 13, at 1 am

This program features perhaps one of the greatest folk concerts of all time. Peter, Paul and Mary, The Weavers, Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie performed together at Carnegie Hall in 2003, and now that concert is being televised for the first time on PBS.

This last gathering of these legendary folk artists was also the last in a series of annual concerts at Carnegie Hall that was produced by the late folk impresario Harold Leventhal.

FOLK LEGENDS: ISN’T THIS A TIME! is linked to the famous 1955 Carnegie Hall concert by the Weavers that was masterminded by Harold Leventhal. Its purpose was to defy a blacklist of artists who were denied work in the entertainment industry because they were accused of having Communist ties.

Some music historians attribute the start of the modern folk revival to that historic performance. Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie continued the tradition of the 1955 concert by holding annual concerts at Carnegie Hall every Thanksgiving. The Weavers, Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie were managed by Leventhal, who also promoted some of the first concerts by Peter, Paul and Mary.

Emmylou Harris—At the RymanFriday, Aug. 11, at 8 pm

Repeats Saturday, Aug. 12, at midnight; Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 10 pm; and Thursday, Aug. 17, at 1:30 am

Twenty-six years ago Emmylou Harris and her acoustic band the Nash Ramblers performed a three-night stint at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium. Those performances, which were live recording sessions for the group’s Grammy Award-winning album “At the Ryman,” helped spearhead efforts to refurbish the century-old former home of the Grand Ole Opry. On May 2, 2017, Harris and the Nash Ramblers returned to the venue for a sold-out show, celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Ryman.

In this new concert, Harris and the Nash Ramblers perform many of the songs that appeared on “At the Ryman,” released in January 1992, just nine days before Harris became an official member of the Opry. The performances include “Guitar Town,” “Half as Much,” “Mansion on the Hill,” “Hard Times,” “Lodi” and more.
