As our journey of faith continues through the church year, it offers us the fulfillment of the eternal promise of faith, hope, love and redemption in a wonderful relationship with God, and each other. I invite you to continue to spend some time in prayer and spiritual reflection as we continue this faith journey together. I encourage you to pray for your own spiritual growth, for friends and loved ones, to participate in worship and special activities, and to renew your commitment of stewardship of time, talent and treasure, but most of all, to renew and grow in your relationship with God! From the Pastor’s Desk,

My how the time flies… and the days have been full and busy… As you read this, we

have already celebrated Palm Sunday, Easter, Mother’s Day, and worshipped for three

Sundays in May! And, if you can believe it, we will soon be celebrating Pentecost

Sunday, on June 12th!

Pentecost (formerly celebrated as Kingdomtide in the UM Church), means “fiftieth day”, and has its roots in the ancient Jewish Feast of Weeks, a celebration of the first

harvest, seven weeks after the spring sowing of the grain. Later, the Jews associated

Pentecost with the giving of the Law to Moses on Mount Sinai. For Christians, Pentecost

has a twofold significance. It commemorates the event in Acts 2 when two things

occurred: 1) the Holy Spirit came in fulfillment of Christ’s promise to his disciples; 2)

the Church of Christ launched upon its world mission.

The color for Pentecost is red. Red signifies divine fire, in addition to the church’s

faith. The dove is the most common symbol of the Holy Spirit, and is found in the story of

Jesus’ baptism. The powerful imagery of wind provides a third symbol. The Season after

Pentecost is the longest of the church year and continues until the Season of Advent. This

Season of Pentecost serves as the instructional half of the church year, and the church’s

attempt to live up to and keep God’s commandments. As our journey of faith continues through the church year, it offers us the fulfillment of

the eternal promise of faith, hope, love and redemption in a wonderful relationship with

God, and each other. I invite you to continue to spend some time in prayer and spiritual

reflection as we continue this faith journey together. I encourage you to pray for your own

spiritual growth, for friends and loved ones, to participate in worship and special

activities, and to renew your commitment of stewardship of time, talent and treasure, but

most of all, to renew and grow in your relationship with God!

May God bless you richly as we journey together! God is truly at work in our midst!

Be a part of it!

See you in Church, Pastor Gil
