WESTBROOK SCHOOL
Dear Westbrook School Students and Families,
As busy and exciting as October was, November promises to be even more so! We will begin the month with the Vote-Ed student election, followed quickly by the end of the first marking period, American Education week visitation on the 14th, Parent-Teacher conferences the week of November 24th, and, of course, Thanksgiving! Information pertaining to many of these events is available on the school and district websites and virtual backpack. Please check regularly for Upcoming Events!
In November, students in grades 5 and 6 will learn about the TREP$ program. We are excited to work with the PTA in offering the program this school year! It will run early this year, beginning in January after the Holiday Break, so please be on the lookout for information coming home in November. Also in November, Westbrook will be hosting our first Nutrition and Wellness Fair! On Wednesday the 19th, Pomptonian Food Service is partnering with us to offer the event. Students will learn about making healthy choices and experience hands-on, interactive exhibits and games while learning more about nutrition.
Congratulations to students nominated for a Bobcat Award for Outstanding Student! Students are nominated by building staff for a number of reasons. This month they include being a great role model, always using manners, considerate playground behavior, and caring for others ~ such WONDERFUL qualities! Amazing work, Westbrook students!
The students and staff at our school have been amazing and productive their first marking period; it is unbelievable that the first quarter of the 2014-15 school year is wrapping up! I am so very thankful to them and to all of you for the collaboration, communication, and dedication that have made my time and this year in Westbrook so positive. I am excited for the work we have before us as we continue meeting students’ academic and socio-emotional needs, refining our practice, and building our school community.
Happy Thanksgiving! Deanne Somers, Principal

Hello Westbrook Families…
Wow… Just like that, another month of school is already behind us. October was an exciting month at Westbrook, with Picture Day, our 3rd annual Trunk or Treat, our Fall Fun Fitness Parade and class parties. There’s always so much fun being had at Westbrook!
I would like to congratulate our grand prize Box Top winner, Marlena Tolnai for winning the E-Reader. What a great prize for one of our students to win. Keep sending in those Box Tops, as our next grand prize is a Rockboard Scooter. Details about this contest were sent home with the students as well as being posted on the website. Also, don’t forget about our Box Top Challenge against Paradise Knoll. The school that sends in the most Box Tops by 2/13/15, the opposing school’s principal will be wearing the winner’s spirit wear for the day!
We would like to thank everyone that participated in our Genevieve sale. It was a huge success for our PTA and we truly appreciate your support.
In November we have our Picture Re-take Day on Wednesday, 11/19, our PTA meeting on Thursday, 11/20, and our Bake Sale on Monday, 11/24 and Tuesday 11/25. If you have offered to make an item for our Bake Sale, please package it so that it is ready to be sold. Our bake sale committee will price it after it has been dropped off on Monday morning, 11/24.
I also would like to announce that Mrs. Comune, one of our 4th grade

teachers will be holding her annual Pajama Drive. Here is her message:
The PTA would like to support Mrs. Comune in her efforts to help with the Pajama Drive, so we will place a box outside the main office for anyone one that would like to participate. The students can drop their donations in the box, and Mrs. Comune will collect them as they come in.
I would like to remind parents that our Find-a-Friend directory is now available on our website. You must sign up for the website in order to access this information as it is on a secure link. Please visit www.westbrookschoolpta.com in order to sign up. There is also a link to request changes or to be added to the directory if needed.
I would like to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving and remind everyone to slow down, take time for yourself and your family, because life really does pass us by in the blink of an eye.
Thank you,
Jennifer O’Neill
Westbrook PTA President
I am looking for donations of new pajamas sizes infant through adult extra-large for the children of the organizations I serve. There are many local organizations (including West Milford and Wanaque) as well as Paterson. You can simply give the pajamas to me when I see you and I will take care of the rest. If you would like to donate a new book as well that is great. We are trying to ensure that each child has a warm pair of pajamas and a bedtime story for the long, cold, winter nights ahead. If you would like to make a monetary donation, checks can be made out to Pajama Program. To learn more about the organization, simply visit the website pajamaprogram.org.
