InWhat Happened to the Dance? An Interview with Mr. Cruz

By: Aimara Eraso

When I began my interview I started with Ms. Rivera and Mrs. Kaplan. It turns out they

were not the ones making the decision so I went further and took my questions to the

principal, Mr. Cruz. He says the dance is being postponed not cancelled and it will be an-

nounced when it is set to another day.

I asked why the dance was postponed in the first place, he answered with, “I wanted to

see report cards and wait for a better day.” He made this decision on January 11, two

weeks before the original date of the dance. Finally I asked, “Will everyone be able to go when the dance is held?”

Mr. Cruz said not everyone will be able to go, but the dance will be put back on for another better day.

a Talk with Mr. Lewis

By:Kayla Arteburn, Roneea Thompson, Sesy Mancia

Today we talked with our assistant principal Mr. Lewis. His full name is Jamal Lewis. We asked him many

questions about how it is to be an assistant principal. Mr. Lewis became an assistant principal in the year 2008,

which is now for 5 years. Before Mr. Lewis became an assistant principal he had to go to college. During his college

experience, he earned his bachelor’s degree and 2 master’s degrees. Like other assistant principals, he had a job

before this. Mr. Lewis was a camp counselor in the Bronx at the age of thirteen. He was also a middle school teach-

er for eleven years. He wanted to be an assistant principal to have a greater impact on student learning and teach-

er instruction. If he wasn’t an assistant principal he would be studying to become a tax lawyer. In the end he be-

came a successful assistant principal that loves his job.

Compare and Contrast The Hunger Games Book and Movie

By Kayla Arterburn

The movie of the Hunger Games is very different from the book. I don’t think it is right to change

or leave out things from the book into the movie. I think that the movie is at least supposed to be the

same as the book. They cut out a lot of the scenes that happened in the book. Then on top of that they

put in a few scenes. So, if I were to watch the movie first and then read the book I would say it was an

excellent movie. Then when I read the book I thought that the movie wasn’t really like the book, it was

more like someone cut and added parts in.

Some of the differences that occurred were the following. In the beginning of the movie, before

the reaping in the book it told me every single thing that Katniss Everdeen did and where she did it. In

the movie the producer cut all of the parts short. Then in the beginning of the games Katniss fought

over a back pack in the book. In the movie she did not fight over the back pack. Then in the end of the

movie they did not show Katniss and Petta getting back to District 12.

So, I would say the book was excellent. But, the movie has some changes to be made. Overall the book

and movie were both excellent. I think Katniss did a great job doing the part.

No Name Calling Week is not needed

because it gives off a bad vibe! It says that you can’t even call someone by their own name!

They never said that it was just about bad names! They want me call people by nothing! I will have

to say “Hey, hey you, you with the face!” I would also not be able to call anyone any good names!

This is why No Name Calling Week is not necessary!

Choose your drinks wisely

By: Mr. Lazarski

All experts agree that soda is not a healthy beverage and is one of the contributors to our nation’s obesity problem. Experts blame

the enormous amount of sugar in soda. Most people believe that Fruit juice and sports drinks are a healthy alternative to soda. How-

ever, experts believe that fruit juice and sports drinks are not healthy alternatives to soda as they contain nearly the same amount of

sugar as soda. When you are thirsty choose water. It is usually free, it contains no sugar, and your body needs it.

I found out that it is important to read in school but to read what you like on your own. I have also had several poems published in print and online. William Dietrich also wrote to Mr. Byrne.

Why aren’t you a health teacher anymore? I wanted to go back to being a classroom teacher after 7 and 8 years of being a health teacher. I also wanted to go back into reading and writing, because that is what I earned my Master’s degree in.
