The 50-bedded hospital which started in 1937, had approached CMC for help in sustaining the healthcare services it provides in the Nilgiris. Miss. Monica Sutton (Lab Technician) and Miss. Vera Nowell (Pharmacist) converted a cowshed into a dispensary. Dr. Pauline Jeffrey from CMC, sent by Aunt Ida, joined forces to help the medical work. Dr. Lydia Herluffson of Danish mission had played a special role. Over the years, many, including CMC alumni have contributed to bringing about significant improvement in the health status of the region. In recent times the hospital has been struggling to keep up with the demand and thus requested CMC’s help. KMF trustees have done their best to keep the good work going. They have been good stewards, safeguarding the vision of the founders. The campus is well maintained and ready for operations. Dr. Thomas Samuel Ram signed the MOU on behalf of CMC Vellore Association, and the KMF President Dr. George Jayaprakash and Secretary Mr. Rickyraj Johnstone were the signatories from the Trust. The Director of CMC Dr. Sunil Chandy, expressing his happiness, mentioned the strategic location of the hospital on the hilltop and likened it to a lamp on a hill. Referring to Psalm 121, he thanked God for the provision of willing people and His watchful eyes, as CMC will explore ways of sustaining and developing the hospital to a self-sufficient one. Director Designate Dr. J V Peter said, “…the heart of Christian healthcare is mission, charity it’s soul and compassionate care it’s mind.” He expressed his eagerness to carry forward the work that has been started. “What has been dreamt of and sown, has to be watered,” he said. The workshop was attended by participants from Melaka-Manipal Medical College, Buangkok Green MedicalPark, Singapore and Advanced Physiotherapy Centre, Chhattisgarh.Professor Prathap Tharyan, Director, Cochrane South Asia and Dr. Thambu David, Cochrane South Asia, providedlectures and individual guidance to the participants on meta-analysis and GRADE approach followed by Statistical andSearch Strategy support by the Cochrane South Asia Team.

First Anniversary Celebrations of Chittoor, CMC campus Operation Theatres

The Chittoor CMC campus celebrated the first anniversary of theoperation theatre complex on 31st August, 2017 which has enabledto conduct more than 1600 surgeries during the last one year. It wasan occasion of great joy remembering the goodness and faithfulnessof our Lord.

He also thanked all the surgicalunits for their earnest efforts and co-operation. Following which,there was a meaningful sharing of experiences of the past oneyear by various surgeons like Dr.Vrisha Madhuri (Head of theDepartment, Paediatric Orthopaedics), Dr. Deepak Abraham(Professor, Department of Endocrine surgery), Dr.Banerjee(Former Head of the Department of Surgery) andDr. V.T.K. Titus (Professor,Department of Orthopaedics).

The meeting was also addressed by the Former Associate Director of Chittoor,Dr.Raju Titus who expressed his joy over the growth and developments in thecampus. The General Superintendent and the Deputy Nursing Superintendentexpressed their appreciations to the entire surgical team of CMC Chittoorcampus.

The programme came to an end with an interesting skit by the theatre staff and an elaborate cake cutting ceremonyled by Dr. Nandhini (Anesthesia).
