n 30th August 2017, a MOUwas signed between the CMCVellore Association and the

Kotagiri Medical Fellowship Trust.The 50-bedded hospital which startedin 1937, had approached CMC forhelp in sustaining the healthcareservices it provides in the Nilgiris.

Miss. Monica Sutton (Lab Technician)and Miss. Vera Nowell (Pharmacist)converted a cowshed into adispensary. Dr. Pauline Jeffrey fromCMC, sent by Aunt Ida, joined forcesto help the medical work. Dr. LydiaHerluffson of Danish mission hadplayed a special role. Over the years,many, including CMC alumni havecontributed to bringing about significantimprovement in the health status of theregion. In recent times the hospital hasbeen struggling to keep up with thedemand and thus requested CMC’shelp.

KMF trustees have done their best tokeep the good work going. They havebeen good stewards, safeguarding the

vision of the founders. The campus is wellmaintained and ready for operations.

Dr. Thomas Samuel Ram signed theMOU on behalf of CMC VelloreAssociation, and the KMF PresidentDr. George Jayaprakash and SecretaryMr. Rickyraj Johnstone were thesignatories from the Trust.

The Director of CMC Dr. Sunil Chandy,expressing his happiness, mentionedthe strategic location of the hospital onthe hilltop and likened it to a lamp on ahill. Referring to Psalm 121, he thankedGod for the provision of willing peopleand His watchful eyes, as CMC willexplore ways of sustaining anddeveloping the hospital to a self-sufficientone.

Director Designate Dr. J V Peter said,“…the heart of Christian healthcare ismission, charity it’s soul andcompassionate care it’s mind.” Heexpressed his eagerness to carry forwardthe work that has been started. “Whathas been dreamt of and sown, has to bewatered,” he said.

At the public gathering, members fromthe community expressed their happinessand appreciation of CMC for reachingout to help the region.

The Cochrane Centre, Bagayam organized a Workshop on ‘Completing Systematic Reviews’ on August 21st to 25th,2017. The workshop was attended by participants from Melaka-Manipal Medical College, Buangkok Green MedicalPark, Singapore and Advanced Physiotherapy Centre, Chhattisgarh.Professor Prathap Tharyan, Director, Cochrane South Asia and Dr. Thambu David, Cochrane South Asia, providedlectures and individual guidance to the participants on meta-analysis and GRADE approach followed by Statistical andSearch Strategy support by the Cochrane South Asia Team.

First Anniversary Celebrations of Chittoor, CMC campus Operation Theatres

The Chittoor CMC campus celebrated the first anniversary of theoperation theatre complex on 31st August, 2017 which has enabledto conduct more than 1600 surgeries during the last one year. It wasan occasion of great joy remembering the goodness and faithfulnessof our Lord.

He also thanked all the surgicalunits for their earnest efforts and co-operation. Following which,there was a meaningful sharing of experiences of the past oneyear by various surgeons like Dr.Vrisha Madhuri (Head of theDepartment, Paediatric Orthopaedics), Dr. Deepak Abraham(Professor, Department of Endocrine surgery), Dr.Banerjee(Former Head of the Department of Surgery) andDr. V.T.K. Titus (Professor,Department of Orthopaedics).

The meeting was also addressed by the Former Associate Director of Chittoor,Dr.Raju Titus who expressed his joy over the growth and developments in thecampus. The General Superintendent and the Deputy Nursing Superintendentexpressed their appreciations to the entire surgical team of CMC Chittoorcampus.

The programme came to an end with an interesting skit by the theatre staff and an elaborate cake cutting ceremonyled by Dr. Nandhini (Anesthesia). Dr. Joyce joined the class of ’58-’59 in 1961 after completing the first part of the MBBS course in theLady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi. After completing the rest of the course and internship inVellore, she went on to do MD (General Medicine) in the Madras Medical College, and then set up
