Missouri City, Texas-This time

around we went for a ride in the

all-new Lexus LS 460 L and let

me say right off the bat it may

have been the finest vehicle we

have ever driven. It simply had

all the modern up to date bells

and whistles you come to expect

as still it was basic enough to

operate it just as you would any

other vehicle. We must applaud

Lexus on doing a marvelous job

of making the vehicle very func-

tional despite of the fact is was

simply State-Of-The-Art in

design.

Power for the new Lexus is a

proven 4.6 Liter 386 horsepower

Four Cam 32-valve V8 engine

with electronically controlled

intake valve timing and dual fuel

injection system. Let us not for-

get we are talking about a full-

size vehicle with nearly 400

horses under the hood and it still

got 24 miles per gallon on the

highway and has a combined 19

miles per gallon. Lexus also

mated this engine to an all-new

8-speed sequential automatic

transmission with drive mode

select with eco/normal & sport

modes. Electronic power steer-

ing system makes handling the

vehicle unbelievable for a vehi-

cle of this size. All this wonder-

ful power transforms itself to the

pavement on Hollow Chamber

18 “ Aluminum alloy wheels

with liquid graphite finish neatly

wrapped by P 235/50R18 “ V-

Rates tires and a full-size spare

to boot. Oh yes Lexus was

thinking big time while putting

this baby together. Leaving no

detail out in the process!

Inside driver and all passengers

are treated to genuine wood/alu-

minum interior trim including

wood/leather steering wheel with

multi-function controls. But the

thing that got me was the heated

and cooled seats and let me tell

you the cool seats are worth

their weight in Gold. Image get-

ting in your vehicle on a hot day

the way the seat normally burns

your backside. In just seconds

the cool function makes that seat

perfect and it got just warm

enough during our weeklong test

period for me to check that out

twice as well as the warm fea-

tures once. A 12.3 inch screen

came in handy for those of us

who wear glasses because it

made the screen so easy to read

and as we told you earlier it was

simply and very driver friendly

to operate. Lexus again gets an

A when they added a touch

remote or joy stick like control

to operate the system. Even the

first time we operated it we

understood how to make the

most of it.

As far as back seat riders goes

the new Lexus LS 460 L had

them in mind as well. The rear

seats has easily the best in class

leg room as well as head and

shoulder room and yes those

seats actually have recline fea-

ture. With a center arm rest that

folds up to make room for three

people the new Lexus again met

the standards and exceeded the

standards of most.

Lexus clearly has the full com-

pliments of airbags, safety cur-

tains, side mounts and knee

airbags as wells as rear side cur-

tain and you name it this vehicle

had it. In addition to the modern

up to date braking system the

new Lexus also has high intensi-

ty discharge Bi-Xenon head-

lamps with adaptive front light-

ing and dynamic auto leveling

and integrated LED fog lamps

and turn signals. The daytime

running lamps and rain-sensing

variable intermittent wipers just

add to a long list of standard fea-

tures.

A few extra features like

Intuitive Park Assist and Auto

Door Closer and stolen vehicle

location emergency Assist

Button (SOS) and enhanced

Roadside Assistance (1-year

trial).

Optional equipment includes a

Mark Levinson 19-speaker with

Single CD/DVD player as part

of the Ultra Luxury package.

With this total package the price

tag goes over 98 Grand but let

me tell you we feel it’s worth

every cent of it. If you are in the

market for a Luxury vehicle you

owe it to yourself to visit you

Lexus dealer and see for your-

self!

The 2013 Lexus LS 460 L is in a class by itself

Page 3: Vol. XV No. 150

In the old days if you wanted

luxury you had give up some

economy but now-a-days you

can actually have both. Thanks

the new Lexus CT 200 Hybrid

you can have the best of both

worlds all for just under 40

Grand. The new 200h is pow-

ered by a 1.8 liter in-line 4-

cylinder DOHC engine with

VVT-I and an electric drive

motor with Lexus hybrid Drive.

This setup is mated to an elec-

tronically controlled continuous-

ly variable transmission

(ECVT). The vehicle also has

electric power rack and pinion

steering and 4-wheel independ-

ent suspension. When it comes

to stopping the new Lexus you

get 4-wheel power assisted front

and rear disc brakes. All this

rolls to the pavement on All-sea-

son P215/45R 17 inch tires

wrapped around 17 inch alu-

minum alloy wheels. All this

comes to 42 miles per gallon in

the city and 40 miles per gallon

on the highway.

All of the above is backed by 4-

year/50,000 miles basic cover-

age, 5-year/70,000 mile power

train warranty, 5-year/unlimited

miles corrosion perforation war-

ranty and an 8-year/100,000

mile hybrid battery /components.

That’s should drive home the

fact Lexus is willing and able to

stand behind their hybrid prod-

ucts year after year.

Inside driver and passengers are

treated with the Lexus touch

with a full-size screen with

backup camera. An optional

Premium package with naviga-

tion with 10-speaker Lexus pre-

mium audio system with auto-

matic sound levelizer and a 90-

day free trial for XM Satellite

radio. Bluetooth technology and

hands free phone is also avail-

able on this model. It’s been

nearly 15 years since we first

test drove a hybrid and we must

admit now it like a regular deal.

Toyota and Lexus have led the

industry in producing these

products and the first question

people ask is what’s the warran-

ty and does it really work? We

can say as we move into our

15th year of being behind the

wheel of hybrid automobiles.

Yes they do work and work very

well at that.

Let us be clear that when you

are driving the new Lexus if you

don’t look at the monitor that

indicates when you are in bat-

tery or electric motor mode or

simply using the gasoline engine

portion you will never know.

The system is just that smooth

and when driver punch the vehi-

cle you get power when you

need it just like any other vehi-

cle.

Lexus goes a step further in

standing behind their products

with a 24-hour/365 day/year

roadside assistance plan along

with complimentary 1st and 2nd

scheduled maintenance service

plus lodging for emergency

breakdowns 100 miles from

home. On top of all this you can

also chat with your Lexus dealer

about an extended service con-

tract.

In closing let me add that this

compact has the same safety fea-

tures of that of a full-size

Luxury sedan and that’s a good

thing.

The 2013 Toyota Highlander SE

V6 was built with the entire

family in mind. Keep in mind

these SUV of this type simply

put the station wagon out of

business. When you read this

profile you will understand why.

If you go to a soccer field you

will see this and other vehicles

in this class. To begin with the

new Highlander SE has plenty

of space for equipment such as

football helmets and baseball

equipment as well. The rear

cargo area is perfect those who

have articles to carry and grab at

a minute notice. A low reach in

adds to the convenience of this

vehicle. Up front you have a car

like ride and fit and feel so

female driver feel right at home.

Funny how times changes and

the automobile industry has to

adjust to give the people what

they want. That is certainly the

case with the Highlander and

Toyota should be commended

for making things fit the

lifestyles of the people who pay

their hard earned dollars for

these units.

Under the hood is a proven 3.5

Liter DOHC V6 engine produc-

ing 268 horses and has Dual

VVT-I and is mated to a 5-speed

electronically controlled auto-

matic transmission. Front wheel

drive with 4-wheel independent

suspension gives the vehicle

good handling abilities. Yes the

Highlander does meet the stan-

dards for Ultra Low Emission

Vehicle II. Even Hill assist

Control is also on the new

Highlander.

Power comes to the ground on

P245/65R17 105S tires circulat-

ing around a set of 17 inch alloy

wheels. Yes this baby also has a

full-size spare tire with an alloy

wheel to go with it.

Inside the new Highlander you

are greeted to leather heated 8-

way power driver seat with lum-

bar support along with 4-way

passenger seat.

A 40/20/40 reclining-sliding 2nd

row seat with center stow seat

and vinyl 50/50 split fold-flat

3rd row seat. A leather wrapped

steering wheel with audio con-

trols is another of the features

inside the new Toyota

Highlander SE.

A full screen display complete

with a backup camera,

AM/FM/CD.MP3 with USB and

Aux Jack, Bluetooth phone and

screening music multi-informa-

tion display. Optional 8.1 screen

audio display with six speakers

and Sirius XM satellite radio

with a three month free trial

period and much more.

Safety for the Highlander comes

in good quality as well with a 4-

star overall rating by the

NHTSA with 4-stars for both

driver and front seat passenger

in frontal crashes. The side

impact crashes gets a 5-star rat-

ing for both front and rear seat

occupants and the rollover gets a

4-star rating in single vehicle

crashes. More over Toyota’s Star

Safety System includes

enhanced vehicle Stability

Control, Traction control, Anti-

erage.

Yes I would say at a price tag of

a little more than 36 Grand the

new Toyota Highlander is built

with the entire family in mind!

Fort Worth, Texas-It’s been quite

a while since we took a small

automobile on the road. That

was the case as we took the new

2014 Scion tC to the Dallas

Metro-plex and found it to be a

pleasantly surprising trip. Yes

when in the past we took smaller

vehicles on the road you had

let’s just say Road Weariness but

that was not the case. The Scion

tC 3- door liftback had plenty of

room upfront and the overall

cockpit was very comfortable.

Yes you would think on a trip

like this a smaller car would get

your attention. It did by is an

unexpectedly pleasing way. The

31 miles on the highway made it

easy for us to make the trip

without having to fuel before we

got there and actually we went

over into Fort Worth and came

back Dallas before we had to

fuel. We were really impressed

when you consider the fact we

are talking about a vehicle that

barely tipped the wallet for just

over 20 grand fully equipped.

One of the strong points was

safety for the new Scion tC with

an overall score of 5-star from

the NHTSA. A 5-star rating for

the frontal crashes on the driver

side and the front passenger gets

a 4-star rating. In side impact

crashes both front and rear seat

passengers get a 5-star rating

and a 4-star rating in rollovers

based on single vehicle acci-

dents. Driver and front passen-

gers advanced airbag system

along with front and rear seat

mounted side airbags. There are

driver and front passenger knee

airbags and both front and rear

side curtains airbags plus and

active front seats head rest. Let

us not forget we are talking

about vehicle that is considered

a compact.

Power comes from a 180 horse-

power 2.5 liter 4-cylinder

DOHC 16 Valve Dual VVTI and

is mated to a 6-speed sequential

automatic transmission. This is

transformed to the road surfaces

on P225/45R 18 tires wrapped

around a set of 18 inch alloy

wheels. When you see this baby

going down the road you first

feel it’s a more expensive vehi-

cle because of his wider stance

and aggressive looking grille up

front and stylish overall look.

The unit handles with best in

class and out performs most due

to Independent Macpherson strut

front suspension and double

wishbone rear suspension.

Electric power steering makes

handling even more fun.

Once you are inside you are sure

to believe you are in a more

expensive vehicle due to the

panoramic glass moon roof with

power tilt/slide. The tilt/tele-

scopic three-spoke leather

wrapped steering wheel with

audio controls making handling

the vehicle a breeze.

Sounds come from a Pioneer

300 Watt AM/FM/CD/HD radio

with 8-speakers Aux/USB port

with iPod connectivity and

Hands free phone capability and

Music Streaming via Bluetooth

wireless technology.

Front sport bucket seats and

60/40 split reclining fold flat

rear seats completes the interior

layout.

In closing please allow me to

add this vehicle also has a full

tank of gasoline and other fea-

tures that include power win-

dows and door locks along with

engine immobilizer.

Trailhawk indicates that the vehicle isdesigned to perform in a variety of chal-lenging off-road conditions identified byfive key consumer-oriented performancecategories: traction, ground clearance, maneuverability, articulation and waterfording.

World-class architectureFIAT Group architecture is the basis forthe underpinnings of the all-new 2014Jeep Cherokee. The Compact U.S. Wide(CUS-wide) platform’s proven modulararchitecture means many models can bebuilt using the same basic underpinnings. The result is better quality and reliability,as well as lower costs, less developmenttime and tooling. The architectureCherokee is built on is comprised of com-mon, modular and interchangeable com-ponents and allows for modularity of thewheelbase, front track, rear track, frontoverhang, length and width across vehiclelines.

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee’s body structurehas a high-strength steel content ofroughly 65 percent. Hot stamped-, high-strength- and ultra-high-strength steel areused to construct a strong, lightweight, solid vehicle architecture.

Superior on-road performance and fuelefficiency The 2014 Jeep Cherokee premium on-road manners and fuel efficiency are aresult of a number of efforts by Jeepengineers.

Powered by the choice of two newengines mated to a segment-first nine-speed automatic transmission, the all-newCherokee delivers the power driversappreciate on the road with fuel economyimprovements of more than 45 percentcompared with the outgoing model. Withexpected highway fuel economy ratingsof up to 31 miles per gallon (mpg) and adriving range on a tank of gasoline ofnearly 500 miles, the all-new 2014 JeepCherokee delivers drivers a no-compro-mise ownership experience.

The all-new 2014 Jeep Cherokee featuresChrysler Group’s 948TE nine-speed auto-matic transmission, the first time a nine-speed automatic transmission has beenused in the segment and is standardequipment in all models of the newCherokee. The nine-speed transmissiondelivers numerous benefits customers willappreciate, including aggressive launches, smooth power delivery at highway speedsand improved fuel efficiency versus a six-speed automatic transmission.

Efficiency and refinement also are hall-marks of Chrysler Group’s 16-valve, 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir 2 I-4 engine, which comes standard in the all-new2014 Jeep Cherokee. The 2.4-literTigershark engine offers up to an estimat-ed 31 mpg highway fuel economy rating,a more than 45-percent improvement ver-sus the outgoing model, and a drivingrange on a tank of gasoline of nearly 500miles. The 2.4-liter MultiAir 2 TigersharkI-4 engine produces 184 horsepower and171 lb.-ft. of torque.

The acclaimed electro-hydraulic fullyvariable valve-lift system uses a columnof oil in place of the traditional mechani-cal link between the camshaft and intakevalves. As a result, it delivers precisecontrol of the intake-valve events –beginning and end – delivering reductionsin engine-pumping losses and increases involumetric efficiency.

In addition to reducing carbon-dioxideemissions, MultiAir accounts for a fuel-economy boost of up to 7.5 percent, com-pared with engines with conventionalvalve trains.

The 2.4-liter is the third engine to featureMultiAir technology from ChryslerGroup and features the second generation“MultiAir 2” system that further enhancescombustion control, improves fuel effi-ciency and reduces exhaust emissions.

Performance ratings for the 2.4-literengine are 184 horsepower (137 kW) and171 lb.-ft. (232 Nm) of torque.

The available new 3.2-liter Pentastar V-6engine is the first derivative of the cele-brated 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6, named oneof Ward’s 10 Best Engines three yearsrunning. The available new 3.2-literPentastar V-6 engine benefits from thesame innovations that earned its largerdisplacement predecessor industry–wideacclaim for efficiency, power and refine-ment. For the driver, that means a refineddriving experience with reduced noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) and anexceptional balance of higher specificpower output (84.2 horsepower per liter)while delivering fuel economy improve-ments of 30 percent versus the outgoingV-6 engine. The 3.2-liter Pentastar V-6engine produces 271 horsepower, 239 lb.-ft. of torque and delivers best-in-class V-6towing of 4,500 pounds.

The all new Jeep Cherokee mid-size SUVsports a new front independent suspen-sion with MacPherson struts and a newrear independent multi-link suspension. The front suspension provides 6.7 inchesof travel while the rear suspension pro-vides up to 7.8 inches of travel for betterarticulation. The isolated rear cradle, alu-minum front crossmember and superiortorsional rigidity all contribute to the qui-eter, smoother ride and superior handlingcharacteristics drivers will experience inthe Cherokee.

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee is equipped withan electronic power steering system(EPS) that improves fuel efficiency andcontributes to the Jeep Cherokee’s nim-bleness with a turn circle radius ofapproximately 36 feet in 4x2 models, approximately 38 feet in 4x4 models androughly 39 feet in the Trailhawk off-roadmodel. With EPS all of the power assistis provided via an electric motor systemrather than a traditional hydraulic system.Because the system is fully electronic, thedriver experiences optimal steering effortat all vehicle speeds, and there is lessnoise and better fuel efficiency sincethere is no parasitic loss from a powersteering pump.

DesignThe 2014 Jeep Cherokee mid-size SUVdebuts a new exterior designed for thefuture with a global appeal. Jeep design-ers were inspired to create a vehicle thatmoves Jeep into the next era with a shapethat is efficient without losing Jeep DNAand design heritage. The all-new 2014Jeep Cherokee is a vehicle that not onlylooks efficient and capable, but is effi-cient and capable - in all on-road, trailand weather conditions.

Fluid, sleek exterior lines highlight theefficient, wind-splitting upper body of theall-new Cherokee. The rugged, protectivelower body conveys the legendary capa-bility that is characteristic of every Jeep.

Safety and SecurityThe new Cherokee was engineered withmore than 70 available safety and securi-ty features. The Jeep Cherokee starts witha strong foundation constructed with 65percent high-strength steel. Engineersthen added both active and passive safetyand security features, including: ChryslerGroup vehicle firsts ParkSenseParallel/Perpendicular Park Assist,Adaptive Cruise Control-Plus, ForwardCollision Warning-Plus, and LaneDeparture Warning-Plus; 9-1-1 assist call;ESC; Electronic Roll Mitigation; Blind-spot Monitoring; Rear Cross Path detec-tion; ParkView rear backup camera withdynamic grid lines and 10 standard airbags.

The ParkSense Parallel/PerpendicularPark Assist feature in the all-new 2014Jeep Cherokee is a first in a ChryslerGroup vehicle. Using ultrasonic parkingsensors on the bumper the system willfind and guide customer into an availableparking space when the driver initiatesparking maneuver. The parking guidancesystem controls the steering angle auto-matically, the driver controls the gearposition, brake, and accelerator. Parallelparking is possible on either side of thecar; during perpendicular parking, thevehicle is backed into the space.

Adaptive Cruise Control-Plus, a first for aChrysler Group vehicle, is significant forits capacity to bring the vehicle to a com-plete stop without driver intervention incertain conditions. Radar and video sen-sors identify the locations of vehiclestraveling ahead of the 2014 JeepCherokee. The sensors also help ensurethe vehicles are separated by a gap deter-mined by the driver. If the gap is dramati-cally breached, the ESC system canaggressively deploy the vehicle’s brakesto affect a full stop, even if the drivernever touches the brake pedal. To resumetravel, the driver need only press a buttonon the steering wheel or tap the accelera-tor pedal.

Forward Collision Warning-Plus, anotherChrysler Group first, addresses traffic-gapchanges when Adaptive Cruise Control-Plus is inactive. When radar and videosensors detect a fast-closing obstacleahead, the system pre-fills the brakes toprepare for emergency driver interven-tion. If collision risk remains, ForwardCollision Warning-Plus correspondinglyratchets up the response with:• audible and visual warnings• a brief brake deployment to alert thedriver• a 1.5-second brake deployment to

quicken the driver’s reaction time• deployment of Advanced Brake Assist(ABA) if the driver is not braking aggres-sively enough

Lane Departure Warning-Plus, which isoffered for the first time in a ChryslerGroup vehicle, uses a camera-basedvision sensor to establish the JeepCherokee’s position on the road. If thereoccurs an unintentional lane drift, deter-mined by trajectory change and theabsence of turn-signal activation, the sys-tem will deliver a visual warning and ahaptic warning – the subtle introductionof torque from the electric power steering(EPS) system. If the driver unintentional-ly drifts too far, the system provides asecondary visual warning.

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee boasts numbersthat make the difference for the SUV cus-tomer that cares about fuel economy andcapability in all weather conditions —fuel economy improvements of more than45 percent, more than 70 safety and secu-rity features, numerous industry and seg-ment “firsts,” a nine-speed automatictransmission, a 3.2-liter Pentastar V-6engine with 271 horsepower and 239 lb.-ft. of torque, a 2.4-liter MultiAir2Tigershark I-4 engine with 184 horse-power and 171 lb.-ft. of torque, nearly500 miles driving range on a tank ofgasoline and three new, innovative 4x4systems that deliver legendary Jeep capa-bility including crawl ratios of 56:1 withthe 2.4-liter engine and 47.8:1 with the3.2-liter engine, an improvement of up to90 percent versus the outgoing model.

Upcoming High-Tech

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

Additionally, Mitsubishi Motors

showcased the company’s

upcoming energy-efficient and

International Auto Show with a

unique full-scale cutaway model

tainable new vehicle.

Expected to land in Mitsubishi

Motors showrooms in 2014, the

new Outlander PHEV is pow-

ered by a unique hybrid drive-

train that combines the innova-

tive 100% electric-powered

componentry including a pair of

reliable 60 kW (80-bhp) electric

motors that have been reconfig-

ion drive battery pack along

with a highly fuel-efficient gaso-

line-powered engine.

All 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander

PHEV models come equipped as

standard with a truly innovative

and advanced new form of the

auto manufacturer’s venerable

Super All-Wheel Control (S-

AWC) all-wheel drive system

that takes advantage of the vehi-

cle’s primary motive force

through the use of the front and

rear electric motors, making the

system a 100% electric-powered,

EV-based full-time all-wheel

drive. These electric-powered

motors produce instantaneous,

virtually lag-free power that

ensures more precise control of

the 4WD as this configuration

requires no propeller shaft,

clutch plate or hydraulic system

to connect the front and rear

axles in a conventional internal

combustion engine/hydraulic-

powered 4WD system.

What’s more, the twin electric

motor/Super All-Wheel Control

(S-AWC) system provides out-

standing instantaneous off-the-

line acceleration, thanks to the

inherent torque characteristics of

electric motors.

Cypress, Texas-Offensive line-

men don’t always get their just

due on the football field. While

out covering the Cy-Creek

Cowboys the other weekend we

ran into an interesting lineman.

The 2nd grader at Frazier

Elementary Schools liked sci-

ence best in the classroom.

Interesting enough to tough line-

man added if he was in charge

he would probably do away with

home work. He simply said he

feels teachers should be able to

cram it all into the school day

but he later added he would

mind having a little homework

in his science class. Over the

years kids have always simply

said what’s on their minds and

that is a good thing. However

on the field Perry was willing to

work overtime blocking for his

runningback Christien

Sattiewhite and protecting his

QB Dylan Doss. After talking a

while with Tyrique he admitted

he loved Science enough to

work harder on it after school

and he really feels pretty good

about attending Frazier

Elementary School.

As far as the game went the

thrilling 7-6 win Perry said his

team played pretty good and he

looks forward to more games so

he and his teammates can get

better and win more games.

LINEMAN OF THE WEEK: TYRIQUE PERRY - COWBOYS

Cypress, Texas-When you are in

a nick and tuck game with only

one point between the two

teams defense is a key. Despite

playing with deep bruise on his

right arm Jayren Stephens took

matters into his own hands as

the defensive end turn back run-

ners from the Marlins. From his

defensive end position Stephens

controlled the line of scrimmage

and helped the Cowboys to a 7-

6 victory before a good crowd.

A second grader at Holbrook

Elementary Stephens says he

feel pretty good about the way

the school in ran and would not

change anything if they made

him the Principal. In the class-

room he likes Math best and

says he feels he’s good at it as

well. Detroit Lions All-Pro

Calvin Johnson is his favorite

NFL player. In his spare time

Jayren likes to play NFL games

on the computer and from the

looks of his play he does well

on the field also. A tremendous-

ly effort is being made by the

Cy-Fair School district in build-

ing youth athletics and they are

still going strong.

Time surely flies because it has-

n’t been that long since Joe

Stephens was playing linebacker

himself at Smiley high school.

He is excited he and his wife

has 3 boys and two are already

playing football and the

youngest is only 4 months old

but he will be ready in little or

no time!

April 2013 A King-Size View Page 10

Cypress, Texas-After a tough

year of going winless QB Dylan

Doss says things are going to be

different in 2013. “Sir last year

we did not win a game and

sometimes we didn’t even score

any points but we are going to

be better this time around. The

student from Adams Elementary

School says he feels the team is

ready to play football this time

around. Sporting his plays on

his left arm Dylan and his team-

mates are looking for bigger and

better things this fall. “If we

don’t score points our coaches

give us some extra laps to run so

we wanted to avoid those extra

laps today”.

With the game on the line and

fourth down the Marlins blitz

and tried to separate the ball

from Dylan but the kid held on

tight as he fell to the ground and

the clock ran out on the next

play. Getting the ball to running

back Christien Sattiewhite most

of the day Dylan did a good job

with their game plan as they

maintain ball control and the

won the close game 7-6.

We certainly want to applaud the

Cy-Fair School district for help-

ing to keep their youth involved

in athletics year round.

If you fast forward a few years

you be seen Dylan directing his

high school team to the playoffs.

But first things first he says he

and the Cy-Creek Cowboys 8

and 9 year guys are out to win

some games this fall. Fact is he

said this showing in their spring

league is only the beginning of

bigger and better things for the

Cowboys!

Cypress, Texas-We have a spe-

cial profile for you this time

around and we think you’ll like

what you read. Fact is the Cy-

Fair ISD has always been one of

the tops in the country when it

comes to youth athletics and that

is still the case today. They

actually have a spring football

league; yes we meant to say a

little league that plays football in

the spring. Thanks to Joe

Stephens of Con-way Freight we

were invited out to see the

action and found it to be inter-

esting. More than 20 years ago

we officiated youth basketball in

the Cy-Fair Sport Association.

Man, this certainly brought back

memories to say the least. Keep

in most of the youths are actual-

ly playing little league baseball

and some are participating in

Track and field, but to keep their

programs sharp they added this

spring league to the mix. It’s

working because about 5 teams

saw action and we had the

opportunity to see the 8 and 9

year-old players. Head coach

Byron Swisher and his staff had

their team ready to play and we

also noted they had their plays

on their sleeves so they are

doing it high tech. Giving play-

ers this kind of teaching at such

an early age certainly has its

rewards. We know that to be a

fact because the Studewood

Cobras will have at least two or

three players drafted in the NFL

this year!

The Cy-Creek Cowboys won 7-

6 over the Hiram Clark Marlins

in a close one. Christien

Sattiewhite ran for the score

behind some good blocking by

Tyrique Perry and the rest of the

offensive line. While defensive

end Jayren Stephens led their

defense that allowed a touch-

down but now PAT and held on

to win the game. The smaller

guys from the Cowboys won big

over the Marlins earlier in the

day.

Having cheerleaders and team

moms out for spring game is a

wonderful ideal and we know

this league will do better and so

well the Cowboys. Having a

tough year last season the team

is out to make a run at the play-

offs in 2013. We plan to cover

more on this heartwarming story

and we certainly want to thank

Joe Stephens who played his

high school football at Smiley

High School for asking us out!

We’ve got a great student for

you this time around in our

series of Fiesta Student of the

Week. He’s 3rd grade at Burrus

Elementary school and a straight

A student this year. The hand-

some son of Tara and Cephus

Brown is very interested in

comic and loves the comic Dead

Pool. But his major plan is to get

into designing his very own

comic strip. That’s a wonderful

thing seeing a youngster wanting

to get into the business side of

comical strip industry.

In the classroom Spencer just

loves reading comics and says

he is very interested in having

his very own because he feels he

has something to offer to the

industry. Brown has the talent to

draw and has his mind made up

on what he wants to do in his

adult life.

When asked about President

Barack Obama becoming the

first African American President

of the United States Spencer

quickly said he feels it a great

thing. “It’s just wonderful and I

love the confidence the

President shows while speaking,

he let you know he is in control

of the situation on hand”.

On the subject of school changes

Brown made it clear if he would

become Principal at Burrus

Elementary he would simply do

away with the school Uniform

dress code. “I just think stu-

dents should be able to dress the

way they like as long as it is in

clean taste and not have every-

one walking around with the

same thing on”.

The Boston Marathon Bombing

has made the news with both

suspects facing justice we got

Spencer thoughts on that. He

said while shaking his head peo-

ple just always doing stupid

things that winds up hurting

other people”.

If given a chance to live his

short life over Spencer said he

would change nothing because

he feels he has pretty much got-

ten the most of life so far. He

added he visits True Light

Missionary Baptist Church and

says he likes what he sees there.

Describing himself as a funny

guy who is also nice and easy

going, Brown made it clear

again he thinks a good comic

can brighten up people lives

with a little fun.

Other than his family Brown

said his teachers at Burrus do a

wonderful job of making his

days at the north side school

interesting and keeps him on the

right path.

The sooner one makes up their

mind on what they want in life,

the job of reaching ones goal is

closer in reach!

Cypress, Texas-Little League

Spring football yes that’s what

we meant to say. Thanks to a tip

from parent Joe Stephens we got

wind of the fact the Cy-Fair area

is still taking care of business

when it comes to youth athletics.

Fact is they have a spring foot-

ball league. The Cy-Creek

Cowboys faced the Hiram Clark

Marlins in the 8 and 9 year old

age group. With a thriller of a

finish the Cowboys edged the

Marlins 7-6 as running back

Christien Sattiewhite scored the

winning touchdown. The set-

back said he loves attending

Frazier Elementary school but if

they made him the Principal he

would do away with school uni-

forms. He went on to add he

wonders why does the 5th

graders get their lunch period

before the 4th graders do. Those

are good questions and hopeful-

ly the school officials will give

him an answer. But back to the

matter at hand Christien said he

was taught how to stiff arm a

would be tackler by his uncle

(Jessie Washington). “My uncle

showed me that a long time ago

and when I saw him coming I

just simply put my arm and out

and scored the touchdown.

Sattiewhite added he and his

squad must keep following their

coaching staff in order to win

more games. “If we do what

they say we have a chance to be

a good team this fall because

today showed we can win a

close game. The final score 7-6

is about a close as it gets. So the

Cowboys open the spring foot-

ball play with a win and for this

group it’s a good start for better

times ahead.

My mind goes back to May of

1970 when we first came to

Houston and my brother Charlie

told me to tune in to KYOK AM

1590. That was the first time I

actually heard Rick Roberts on

the radio and man I was so

impressed it made me feel good

about going into the broadcast

industry. It was Rick Roberts

who seems to be having so

much fun in the radio and yet he

had a very serious side to go

along with his shucking and jiv-

ing. KYOK was the one people

listen too all over the Texas Gulf

Coast and they were involved in

all the concerns and made it

their business to be part of the

community they served. Roberts

along with the late Brother

George Nelson on the Gospel

side kept the public informed on

what was going on.

It all started when Claude

“Rick” Roberts was born on

November 11, 1941 in Houston,

Texas. While at very young age

his father took him to see

George Prather of KGBC in

Galveston, Texas and it sold

Rick on radio for his feature.

Reports say that Prather was the

first African American on the

radio live in the southwest and

he broadcast while in a wheel

chair. A few year later while at

B. H Grimes elementary school

Roberts had the pleasure of

meeting Vernon Chambers of

KCOH AM 1430 ad that

inspired Rick more and he was

sure. After going to Ryan mid-

dle school the Roberts family

moved to Maggie Street in

Sunnyside and Rick went on

attend Evan E. Worthing high

school. It was then in the 10th

grade he entered a radio talent

contest and won first place.

That netted him a chance to

attend The Texas Academy of

Broadcasting scholarship and he

was on his way to one of the

most exciting radio careers of

All-times. While working at

KYOK part time and finishing

high school Rick learned the

ropes of the industry and once

he graduated in 1960 he went

full-time.

On Decemb4re 17, 1961 Rick

Married the lovely and talented

Mable Jewel (Adkins) and the

couple went on to produce four

children from this union

(Michael/Monica, Kevin Craig,

Kecia Michonne and Latoyua

Chandre. They have two grand-

daughters in Chantoya Mikelle

Taylor and Kacielyn Amiyah

Roberts.

Just when things started to roll

with Roberts he was uprooted to

WBOK in New Orleans,

Louisiana. But Rick took his

new job in strive and continued

to grow in the profession. He

went onto meet Dick

Oppenheimer and Oppenheimer

brought Roberts back to

Houston and KYOK in 1967. It

was then Roberts started on a 21

year string of nothing but the

best in broadcasting and set new

standards for blacks in the

industry. Joining the late Rev. L.

J Woodard to help with the

Christian Rescue Mission pro-

vided food and clothing for the

needy. Roberts did radiothons

for the Eliza Johnson House for

the Aged and many other busi-

nesses in our community.

In the late 60 Rick recorded a

song called “Merry Christmas

World” using the voice of a

character he created (Rutabaga)

and it should have been a hit.

The studio time was purchased

by the late Mildred Jones of the

famous Jones sister and pro-

duced by Andre Williams. We

hope to fine Williams so we can

put it on the market. Thanks to

Joe Harris who had a copy on

cassette we were able to get Vel

Locks to digital re-master it for

us and we gave Rick a copy of

it. More on that as we get infor-

mation to get it done the proper

way.

The union with a fine young

salesman named Don Rosette

who later became sales manager

and later KYOK AM station

manager. But the Southern

graduate had the upmost respect

for Roberts and the two worked

together on some record setting

projects and kept building the

KYOK name into the legendary

station it went on to become.

Rosette and Roberts teamed up

to help little Shana Wilkerson

raised 62 thousand dollars for a

liver transplant.

Roberts also help the Kashmere

Stage Band raise more than 50

Thousand Dollars for a trip to a

Festival overseas. It was

Roberts who went on a live

remote to help the NAACP start

up again after it had closed its

door in Houston at one point.

As the years went by Roberts

continued to set the standards as

he took to the mike on the air

more than two days none stop to

provide information for

Hurricane Alisa in the early 80s.

Roberts moved on to take over

the airways doing play-by-play

for HISD sports, Grambling,

Prairie View and Texas Southern

sports. He served as the on-site

engineer as well as producer of

these great radio broadcasts and

working with announcers from

Brother George Nelson, Ralph

Cooper and Myron Anderson

and Bill German to name a few.

One thing was clear during these

broadcasts in Rick Roberts was

taking charge.

By the time the late 80s rolled

around KYOK had been sold

and was under their third owner

former Green Packer Willie

Davis. With more than 21 con-

secutive record breaking years

Roberts left KYOK and moved

over to KTSU 90.9 FM. He con-

tinued his trend of setting a new

standard and turns KTSU into

one of the city’s most powerful

vehicles. Through all of this

Roberts managed to hire many

of the names you hear on the

radio all over the city and the

country as far as that goes. Let

just start with the new KCOH

1230 AM Michael Harris,

Steven Talton, Tommy D.

Armstrong, Ralph Cooper and

Don Samuel. Taking a look at

KTSU these days to name a few

guys Little Rickie Williams,

Rev. Charles Hudson and Slick

Rick Lauderdale.

Due to Health reasons Roberts

retired in 2000 after more than

42 years on the air. Somewhere

between mid-night and day

break on March 2-3 Roberts suf-

fered a massive stroke and never

spoke another word before pass-

ing away on March 21, 2013.

Ending one of the greatest voic-

es of all-times and closing a

chapter of Broadcasting excel-

lent like non-other this country

has seen!

When I turn on the radio now-a-

days it’s just not the same with-

out hearing the voice of Rick

Roberts because I knew that

voice really cared about the peo-

ple listening to him and he tried

his best to make you feel what

he was doing as well as made

you want to become part of it.

In February 2007 Fiesta honored

Rick Roberts at the 14th Annual

Black Heritage Celebration with

the newly founded Fiesta

Lifetime Achievement Award. It

was my pleasure to present him

this award as well as take him to

TSU basketball game that night.

Sitting on the porch talking

about old times Rick gave me

the courage to keep working on

my publication and inspired me

to talk with people in the enter-

tainment industry and he told me

they are just people like anyone

else. The Legendary Millie

Jackson was one of those who

sent flowers to Rick’s Home

going services and that just

showed how many lives Rick

touched during his career.

The angels are probably gath-

ered around Rick Roberts right

now waiting on him to tell them

some of those entertainment sto-

ries!

Chicago, Illinois-With his caring

tening to his old buddy Ernie

legend Artie “Blues Boy “White

passed away at his home in

Chicago. After a long illness he

departed but not before leaving

some of the best recordings of

down home blues.

Born on April 16, 1937 Artie

White started out singing gospel

at age 11 with a group called the

Harps of David. He soon moved

to Chicago in 1956 and quickly

begun recording singles.

Receiving a good bit of success

for his 1977 hit “You are my

leanin Tree”, White continued to

work hard until he released his

first full album in 1984. In 1987

he signed with Ichiban and had

several album releases with

them including “Thangs got to

Change” in 1989, and Best of

Artie White in 1991.

A few years later White recorded

for Waldoxy an affiliated studio

with Malaco Records. That last-

ed for about four years and then

Artie started his own label called

A Chill Town and produced sev-

eral CDs including one with Lee

Shot Williams “Chicago Deep in

2003 on P-Vine.

His latest CD was “Package

Deal” in 2005 shortly after that

time White became ill and never

fully recovered.

Highly respected in the Business

during his sick time he got visits

from such notables as Millie

Jackson among others.

The month of February 2013

will always be a tough month

for me to look back on. For

while in the midst of grieving

for my brother (Charlie

Winston) passing on February

7th, we were told a day later that

world famous listening Back DJ

Myron Anderson had passed on

the same day. They say the

Lord knows just how much we

can bare but let me this you this

is a great deal.

Myron Anderson was born on

October 15, 1949 in Sunnyside

Community of Southeast

Houston, Texas. He confessed

Christ at age 10 at Pentecostal

Missionary Baptist Church and

quickly became the speaker on

many programs. Anderson later

joined East Macedonia Baptist

Church and his love for music

was enhanced when the joined

the choir. Myron credited his

mother Mrs. Odell Anderson for

keeping him on the straight and

narrow path. Playing little

league baseball Anderson went

on to attend B. H Grimes and

Thornton M. Fairchild

Elementary schools and Crispus

Attucks Junior high before grad-

uating from Evan E. Worthing

high school. After attending San

Jac Junior College a couple of

semesters Anderson transferred

to Texas Southern University as

a part time student while work-

ing at Hughes Tool.

In February 1981 Myron did a

Black History Program on radio

station KTSU 90.9 FM and it

was so well received they asked

him back time and time again.

Before long Anderson Listening

Back Program had set standard

for going back to the music you

grew up listening to. Ten years

later Myron secured Fiesta as a

corporate sponsor and that

allowed him to move forward

taking his program to a new

level. Thus Listening Back

Memorabilia was born and T-

shirts, Caps and Satin Jackets

became some of the prizes you

could win by listening to his

program. He also gave away

Listening Back CDs with some

of the greatest music of all-times

on it.

In May of 1987 Myron received

his B S degree

Telecommunication from TSU.

He even took time to do TSU

Sports on the radio as well all

kind of functions going on in

our community. This simply

made him a household name and

he began to emcee shows

involving such legends as

Smokey Robinson, Johnny Nash

and his beloved Temptations.

Going on to have the now

famous Listening Back parties in

which he would do lip-sync

shows with a group as they dress

up like the Temptation and per-

formed those world famous

songs. Former KYOK AM 1590

announcer Mickey Hobbs was a

member of that group. Their act

ran strongly from 1982 through

1999. All over the city of

Houston Anderson went about

his business of creating interest

in music from days gone by.

Every Friday morning from 6

AM until 10 AM he would take

us down memory lane and we

certainly miss that flavor Myron

had with his shows.

For the past 7 years Myron was

married to Beth Anderson and

she wrote a good note in the

funeral program for Anderson

ending in the words “Rest On,

My Sweetie”.

At last check KTSU had “Slick

“ Rick Lauderdale on the Friday

Morning run and we know Rick

will do a good job.

The family of Myron Anderson

thanked the staff at North

Cypress Medical Center includ-

ing nurses and Doctors who

gave Myron outstanding care

during his last days. They also

thank the KTSU Family,

Windsor Village United

Methodist Church, The ultimate

Faith Family and all his

Listening Back supporters over

the years.

Productions are pleased to

announce that the 4th Annual

Kevin Marshall Conference,

March, and Rally was a great

success. The conference began

with a Panel discussion that was

led by Bishop James W.E.

Dixon, II, Pastor of the

Community of Faith, and

Interim Pastor of the True Light

Missionary Baptist Church. The

panel participants included: Rev.

John Bowie, Pastor Emeritus,

True Light Missionary Baptist

Church; Sis. April L. Carson,

Parole Officer with the Texas

Department of Criminal Justice;

Sis. Tasha Lee, Academic

Advisor for Lone Star College;

Minister Eric Muhammad of the

Nation of Islam; Bro. Reginald

Gordon, a former inmate and

vice president of a rehabilitation

program for prison inmates and

at-risk youth; and Bro. Athill

Muhammad, Attorney at Law.

To close out the conference,

Rev. Gordon Thomas, Pastor of

Perfecting Ministries Church

delivered a powerful message

that brought very one to their

feet.

Directly following the confer-

ence the participants marched

behind the Marshall family and

to the beat of the Booker T.

Washington High School and the

High School for the Engineering

Professions’ Baby Ocean of Soul

Marching Band. The parade con-

cluded at Burrus Elementary

school, where Principal Jesse

Woods a veteran principal at

Burrus Elementary School and

within the Houston Independent

School District, has transformed

Burrus Elementary School into

one of the best elementary

schools in the city of Houston. It

has also become a beacon for

the Independence Heights Super-

Neighborhood community.

At Burrus Elementary School

the participants had an opportu-

nity to Rally and to encourage

young men not to turn on each

other but, to turn to each other

for support and assistance.

Officer Steven Baines of the

HISD Gang Task Force, stressed

that all parents should involve

themselves in the lives of their

children and notice who their

children’s friends are. He added

to always check the attire of

their children and to look out for

any changes in their behavior.

There was also a variety of food,

games, and a performance by the

SWAT dance team. Participants

even had an opportunity to get

their “grove on” and dance to

the sounds of DJ Mike Jones.

The Rally concluded with a

gigantic THANK YOU from the

Marshall family.

Spring is here, even though the

weather may be a bit deceiving.

Summer is just around the cor-

ner and school will be out soon.

We are blessed with some great

spring weather and bicycling

and hiking are two great ways to

get outside and get some exer-

cise. If you don’t know, there are

a number of ways to get around

our city that don’t involve trav-

eling on the roads.

There is a trend in the nation to

remove main line railroad tracks.

In many cases these right of

ways are used for highway

expansion. Two examples in

Houston are the tracks that ran

along the Katy Freeway (I-10

East). These tracks, once owned

by the MKT Railroad, were

removed during the I-10 rebuild

which was completed in 2008.

Although the project made com-

muting much easier for people

living on the West Side, it did

nothing to assist bicyclists. A

link was promised to connect the

Hershey Park Trail to the

Addicks Park and Ride Lot and

later to the Cullen Park Trail. It

was never completed.

A second set of tracks were

removed along what is not the

Westpark Tollway. These tracks

were secured by Metro to allow

the toll road to be built. Again,

there was never a benefit to

those that do not drive.

In many other cities, especially

in the north, abandoned railroad

tracks were turned into some-

thing very green many years

ago. Rails to Trails projects exist

in great numbers. In Indiana, for

example, The Cardinal

Greenway is a 62 mile paved

trail that spans from Marion to

Richmond. It was started in

1992.

Houston has gotten on the band-

wagon even if it is a little later

than other areas. Here we can

enjoy paved hiking and biking

trails that allow travel around

town. If you know where these

trails are you can ride all over

our city in relative safety. These

trips can be combined with bus

transportation as all Metro

busses are equipped with bike

racks. Metro light rail trains

allow bicycles during non-peak

hours.

Some of the better known trails

in our town are:

The Brays Bayou Trail mean-

ders along Brays Bayou from

MacGregor Park to Gessner.

This approximately 12 mile trail

along the bayou was built by

Harris County and is maintained

by County Precinct 3, Precinct

1, and Precinct 2. The trail can

be accessed through the Houston

Zoo and has a few grade level

crossings once you are outside

the Loop. This trail is built on a

shelf below ground level and

above river level on the Brays

Bayou until you get to Loop 610

then it runs at surface level.

Currently the trail in undergoing

improvements and there may be

a couple of bridge detours along

the way. After heavy rains the

level of the Bayou may rise

enough to cover the trail so be

careful! This is one of the oldest

trails in our city and is narrower

than most. The views of Rice

University and the Medical

Center are a wonderful distrac-

tion while running or riding.

The Harrisburg-Sunset Trail is

a Rails to Trails project offering

bicyclists and pedestrians over 5

miles of trail and on-street bike-

ways just east of downtown

Houston. The 10-foot asphalt

trail is lighted and runs from

Drennan to Marsden, and from

Avenue H to Hidalgo Park. The

on-street portion of the trail

includes segments from

Commerce and McKee, to

Commerce and Drennan, and

from Garrow and Marsden to

Avenue H and West Hendrick.

This trail offers access to

Downtown and the three stadi-

ums on the East Side of

Downtown. It also has connec-

tions to other trails and on street

bikeways. Completed in 2003,

this trail is a joint project funded

by the City of Houston and

Metro.

The Columbia Tap Trail is a

Rails-to-Trials conversion proj-

ect which consists of over 4

miles of a 10-foot wide, con-

crete, multi-use hike and bike

trail along the old Columbia Tap

railroad.

The trail corridor extends from

Dixie Drive past Polk Street and

into downtown, along the former

Union Pacific Railroad right-of-

way creating a greenway corri-

dor in the Third Ward and down-

town area. The project is bound

by Dowling Street on the west

and Scott Street on the east. The

Union Station Extension con-

nects Minute Maid Park with a

trail that will take you to the

main campus of the University

of Houston. It is also a great

way to get to the Toyota Center

and BBVA Compass Stadium.

The West White Oak Bayou

Trail offers bicyclists and pedes-

trians almost 5 miles of 10-foot

wide concrete and asphalt trail

with 2-foot shoulders on each

side. The trail is lighted and

includes railings in some areas.

The trail runs along the bayou

and T. C. Jester Park, parallel to

T. C. Jester Boulevard, from

11th Street to Pinemont. This

beautiful trail allows access

from Downtown to the near

northwest side inside the loop.

There are many more trails in

this town waiting to be discov-

ered. Many are lighted and

available 24 hours. In addition,

our city has a network of bike

lanes along major routes. In the

city, there are over 300 miles of

interconnected bike lanes, bike

routes, sign-shared lanes. If you

wish to ride a bikeway or bicy-

cle trail remember to be courte-

ous to others and obey the rules.

Most of the rules are common

sense. Keep to the right. Pass

hikers and other bikes only

when save and identify yourself

(A quick “ON YOUR LEFT”)

will make passing safer. Respect

others but watch for children

and dogs. Don’t leave trash on

the trails. Although not required,

a good bicycle helmet may help

save your life.

Information on these and other

trails can be found at

http://www.houstonbikeways.org

, a comprehensive website run

by the city. Get our and ride

safe. It is a great way to get out

and about!

Out and About

Hey lovers and want to be

lovers. I don’t take that lightly,

there are some people desperate-

ly looking or seeking Love. Do

you have any friends that feel

this way? Do they feel they

can’t face life without someone

in their lives, which sometimes

spells disaster? Women and a

select group of men can be so

desperate that they put their

children and even themselves

last. It so important that these

men and women are in a rela-

tionship, they make poor deci-

sions when it comes to choosing

a mate. A partner is supposed to

complement you not plummet

you, if you know what I mean.

Love causes the nicest and most

loving person to take abuse that

is not normal in any relationship

it happens every day, and even

leads to the loss of life or the

abuse of the children. If you

know someone in that type of

situation try to help them or

help them get some type of help

before it is too late. Love should

be wonderful thing especially

when it is clicking on all cylin-

ders.

Let’s think of our relationship as

a car. A car needs regular main-

tenance, or it will eventually

break down. I think if some of

us took care of their relationship

like we do our vehicles, your

significant others would love

you to death, and I don’t mean

that in a bad way. Here’s the

scenario, you take your car to

the car wash clean it up real

good. You take a special pride in

your automobile, and then you

take it out that night to show it

off. The same could and should

apply to your mate. Try it some-

times. The person you are with

wants to feel important, and

want you take them out from

time to time and be shown off,

it’s just human nature, or should

I say woman’s nature.

We are pleased to announce that

we have two outstanding young

ladies to be selected as King-

size Movers and Shakers for the

month of April. Kaylan Marie

Thomas and Kyla Milan Thomas

are the daughters of Pastor

Gordon Thomas and First Lady

Vonda Kay Thomas.

Both young ladies are extremely

active in their father’s church,

Perfecting Ministries Church

which is located in Sugar Land,

Texas. During my interview of

the two sisters, I discovered that

both sisters were very good stu-

dents with excellent behavior

and good attendance at school.

When I asked them about their

future, both young ladies plan

on going to college with model-

ing and acting as possible career

fields. In his younger days,

Pastor Thomas was a marathon

runner and a basketball player in

high school. As I closed out my

interview, First Lady Vonda

Thomas informed me that both

young ladies were very athletic

and competed internationally as

Cheerleaders. Pastor Thomas

added that he has taught them

that God can “empower them”,

“enable them”, and “equip

them” to be anything they want

to be and do anything they want

to do, if they allowed him to

lead them. Amazingly, both sis-

ters stated that they were truly

blessed and believed that they

had the best parents in the whole

world.

I was truly impressed by these

two young ladies and I know

that we will hear wonderful

Perfecting time simply does not

exist. I've realized that the PER-

FECT time is now. This month I

challenge you to not put off

another day waiting for the right

conditions to do things that

you've dreamed of.

Waiting often means you are

procrastinating and simply

adding to your list of excuses.

Whether it is an exotic vacation

or simply dabbing on your most

expensive cologne every day.

We often find ourselves waiting

either for the right mate, or for

our finances to reach an amount

that will land us on the cover of

Fortune 500 magazine. Although

both of those scenarios are ideal,

if that's not quite where you are

at this moment, it should in no

way stop you from going out

and doing things that you've

dreamed of.

Finances most often are a factor

in most things but if you plan,

save and above all believe you

can and will do it, all things are

possible. Some things may take

some planning, while other

things might start with wearing

your best outfit not just for a

special occasion but just to sim-

ply make you feel special.

There is often a laundry list of

what you must complete before

you feel comfortable with "treat-

ing" yourself

When I retire

When the kids graduate

When I lose 10lbs

And I'm sure you have many to

add...

Lets just instead replace that

with:

Today I'm putting a down pay-

ment on my dream vacation

Today I'm going out to dinner

and having steak and lobster

(one of personal faves)

Today I'm going to pursue my

dream

"Don't wait for the perfect

moment, take the moment and

make it perfect".

Never and I do mean never

would I imagine seeing a major

city in our country in a lock-

down mode but that happened I

Boston Friday April 19, 2013.

Both of the suspects in the

Boston Marathon Bombing were

being sought in Boston as city

residents were instructed to

remain indoors. I thought about

the bombing all week as the

nation watched the terror of the

citizens of Boston grip with had

happened. We must face the fact

that security around sporting

events, even local sporting

events will change even more

so. Never would I have thought

that innocent people enjoying a

fun-loving event like the Boston

Marathon would face the assault

that took place Monday April

15, 2013. Let’s take a look at

what we be facing:

1. Expect even more searches

before entering stadiums-Just a

minute Big John; I will be

searched to go to a high school

game? Yes I think a search of

fans will be something that will

be announced in the very near

future. Millions of fans attend

high school and youth athletic

games around the country. Terror

groups love to target events that

draw huge crowds and trust me

they will likely set their sights

on athletic events where large

numbers of people will be. We

must be prepared to arrive early

at games and await the searches

before entering the stadium.

2. Look for increased security

checks entering the parking

lot-This is something that has to

happen. We must become aware

of strange vehicles and the

patrons that arrive in them.

Security will limit where fans

can park and will remove vehi-

cles that park illegally. Cars will

be towed if needed, so again

arrive early and park in a good

spot.

3. Expect to see more security

around the stadium-You will

soon see more security

patrolling stadiums. They will

inform fans to find a seat, and

will be watching fans as the

move around during the game.

Let’s face it; young fans like to

chit/chat with their friends, inter-

act with other fans beside watch

the game (we were young many

years ago and did the same

thing). They should still be

allowed to do that-it’s part of

growing up and become mature

adults. But safety is priority #1

and we can never forget that.

What happened in Boston is a

reminder that in a split second,

lives can be changed forever!

4. Quick exit after the game-

Fans will be encouraged to leave

the stadium once the contest

ends. By moving people out of

the parking lot, security can

patrol the area and ensure the

safety of the teams and other

personnel around the facility.

Terrorist would love to plant

explosives especially when the

stadium area is clear. Security

staff can patrol without dealing

with fans that simply don’t want

to leave.

I understand many of you may

feel that all this ‘extra security’

is unnecessary and a big waste

of time. I felt like that at many

events I have attended and just

kept saying to myself ‘we’re not

in a war zone; why do we have

to go thru this?’ But the events

during the week of 4/15/13 -

4/19/13 changed my thoughts.

We can’t allow people that hate

us make us afraid to live our

lives and enjoy the many things

GOD has provided for us. We

must remember to push safety as

our top priority and be ‘our

brother’s keeper’. I listened to

my song from Wilton Felder and

Bobby Womack and the classic

line encouraged me even more;

‘IF YOU CAN KEEP YOUR

HEAD WHILE OTHERS

AROUND ARE LOSING

THEIRS, YOU CAN IHERIT

THE WID’

We are going forward.

That’s just the way I see it!

Dear reader, if we study ourBibles, we will find that Christ, and those that followed him suf-fered many things. They werethought of as drunks (Acts 2:1-15), foolish men (Matt.11:25-27; John7:14-17; Acts 4:10-13;1Cor.4:9-16), weaklings(1Cor.1:18-31; 2Cor.10:1-10;11:21-30; 13:1-14), and even aCULT, see sect:

Acts 24:1 And after five daysAnanias the high priest descend-ed with the elders, and with acertain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governoragainst Paul. 2 And when hewas called forth, Tertullus beganto accuse him, saying, Seeingthat by thee we enjoy greatquietness, and that very worthydeeds are done unto this nationby thy providence, 3 We acceptit always, and in all places, mostnoble Felix, with all thankful-ness. 4 Notwithstanding, that Ibe not further tedious unto thee,I pray thee that thou wouldesthear us of thy clemency a fewwords. 5 For we have found thisman a pestilent fellow, and amover of sedition among all theJews throughout the world, anda ringleader of the (1)sect ofthe (2)azarenes: (KJV)

Definitions: (1)sect of the-139hairesis (hah’-ee-res-is); from138; properly, a choice, i.e.(specially) a party or (abstract-ly) disunion 4) a body of menfollowing their own tenets (sector party) c) used of theChristians 5) dissensions aris-ing from a diversity of opinionsand aims KJV— heresy [whichis the Greek word itself], sect.(2)nazarenes-3480 Nazoraios(nad-zo-rah’-yos); from 3478; aNazoraean, i.e. inhabitant ofNazareth; by extension, aChristian, Nazarite = “one sep-arated”; 2) a title given to Jesusin the New Testament 3) a namegiven to Christians by the Jews,Acts 24:5: KJV— Nazarene, ofNazareth.

According to the Scriptures suf-ferings are appointed untoChristians. We believe theseSUFFERINGS though are justthe tip of the iceberg, and thatthe whole iceberg is to keep our-selves UNSPOTTED from theWORLD! James 1:27 Pure reli-gion and undefiled before Godand the Father is this, To visitthe fatherless and widows intheir affliction, and to keep him-self (1)unspotted from the(2)world. (KJV)

Definitions: unspotted -784aspilos-1) spotless 2) metaphori-cally, a) free from censure, irre-proachable b) free from vice, unsullied. world -2889 kos-mos-1) an apt and harmoniousarrangement or constitution,

order, government 3) the world, the universe 4) the circle of theearth, the earth 5) the inhabitantsof the earth, men, the humanrace 6) the ungodly multitude;the whole mass of men alienatedfrom God, and therefore hostileto the cause of Christ 7) worldaffairs, the aggregate of thingsearthly the whole circle of earth-ly goods, endowments riches, advantages, pleasures, etc.,which although hollow and frailand fleeting, stir desire, seducefrom God and are obstacles tothe cause of Christ.

We believe for CHRISTIANS toaccomplish being unspottedfrom the world, we MUST be:ADDICTS, EXTREMISTS, andZEALOTS, according toSCRIPTURE.

1 Cor 16:15 I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house ofStephanas, that it is the firstfruitsof Achaia, and that they haveADDICTED themselves to theministry of the saints,) 16 Thatye submit yourselves unto such, and to every one that helpethwith us, and laboureth.

Titus 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and world-ly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in thispresent world; 13 Looking forthat blessed hope, and the glori-ous appearing of the great Godand our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14Who gave himself for us, that hemight redeem us from all iniqui-ty, and (1)purify unto himself a(2)peculiar people, (3)zealousof good works. (KJV)

(2) peculiar-4041 periousios (per-ee-oo’-see-os; from the present participlefeminine of a compound of 4012and 1510; being beyond usual,i.e. special (one’s own): KJV—peculiar. Ex·trem·ist (¹k-str¶“m¹st) n. One who advocatesor resorts to measures beyondthe norm. (3)zealous of goodworks-2207 zelotes (dzay-lo-tace’); from 2206; a “zealot“1)one burning with zeal, a zealot2) used of God as jealous of anyrival and sternly vindicating hiscontrol 3) most eagerly desirousof, zealous for, a thing a) toacquire a thing, (zealous of) b)to defend and uphold a thing, vehemently contending for athing: KJV— zealous.

Christians cannot, must not givein, but hold to the Faith, not a

faith (Eph.4:1-6) I ALLTHIGS (1Cor.11:1-3); just asthe examples before us areWRITTEN. We must sufferthese and many other things onthis earth, because this worldhas been delivered unto Satan,by GOD. (Luke 4:5&6;2Cor.4:1-6; Eph.2:2-3; 6:10-14; Rev.12:7-13; Rev.13:6-9).The whole world (1)LIETH inwickedness (1John5:19)

Definition: (1)the whole worldLIETH-2749 keimai (ki’-mahee); middle voice of a pri-mary verb; to lie outstretched(literally or figuratively), b) usedof one buried 2) metaphorically:a) to be (by God’s intent) set,,that is, destined, appointed c)lies in the power of the EvilOne, that is, is held in subjec-tion by the Devil: KJV— be(appointed, laid up, made, set),lay, lie

Christians MUST be SUBJECTunto ALL HIGHER POWERSof this WORLD, (Rom.13:1-5;1Tim.2:1-7; Titus3:1-3) forCHRIST’S sake (1Pet.2:1-25),that is as long as they are NOTcontrary to CHRIST, (Eph.5:24-33; Col.1:12-20 and 3:1-4). But,to live in this world and strivenot to have anything to do withits higher educational systems, political systems, sports, and orits traditions, is definitely aSUFFERING; thereby followingthe example of the Lord Jesusand his apostles. After all, ALLthese things existed when theywere on earth, and there are NOexamples of their participationIN such. For, this helps in keep-ing one unspotted from theworld, and probably seemsextreme to the carnal, fleshly, secular mind (read Rom.12:10-31; 1Cor.1:18-31; 3:1-23;Phil.3:1-21; Col.2:1-12;2Tim.2:1-16; James4:1-17 and5:1-12.

A Christian’s duty on this earthis to do the will (work) of God,through Christ Jesus and hisapostles; not the will and tradi-tions of men, POLITICS beingone of many. For a Christian’sconversation is in heaven; fromwhence also we look for theSaviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, please read; Phil 3: 13 Brethren,I count not myself to haveapprehended: but this one thing Ido, forgetting those things whichare behind, and reaching forthunto those things which arebefore, 14 I press toward themark for the prize of the highcalling of God in Christ Jesus.15 Let us therefore, as many asbe perfect, be thus minded: andif in any thing ye be otherwiseminded, God shall reveal eventhis unto you. 16 Nevertheless, whereto we have alreadyattained, let us walk by the samerule, let us mind the same thing.17 Brethren, be followerstogether of me, and mark themwhich walk so as ye have us foran ensample. 18 (For manywalk, of whom I have told youoften, and now tell you evenweeping, that they are the ene-mies of the cross of Christ: 19Whose end is destruction, whoseGod is their belly, and whoseglory is in their shame, whomind earthly things.) 20 For our(1)conversation is in heaven;from whence also we look forthe Saviour, the Lord JesusChrist: 21 Who shall change ourvile body, that it may be fash-ioned like unto his gloriousbody, according to the workingwhereby he is able even to sub-due all things unto himself.(KJV)

I Jn 2:15 Love not the(1)world, neither the thingsthat are in the world. If anyman love the world, the love ofthe Father is not in him.

16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lustof the eyes, and the pride of life,is not of the Father, but is ofthe world. 17 And the world pas-seth away, and the lust thereof:but he that doeth the will of Godabideth for ever; 18 Little chil-dren, it is the last time: and as yehave heard that antichrist shallcome, even now are there manyantichrists; whereby we knowthat it is the last time. 19 Theywent out from us, but they werenot of us; for if they had been ofus, they would no doubt havecontinued with us: but theywent out, that they might bemade manifest that they werenot all of us.

(KJV)

1 Cor 1:25 Because the foolish-ness of God is wiser than men;and the weakness of God isstronger than men.

26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not manywise men after the flesh, notmany mighty, not many noble, are called: 27 But God hathchosen the foolish things of theworld to confound the wise; andGod hath chosen the weakthings of the world to confoundthe things which are mighty; 28And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, andthings which are not, to bring tonought things that are: 29 Thatno flesh should glory in his pres-ence. 30 But of him are ye inChrist Jesus, who of God ismade unto us wisdom, andrighteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, Hethat glorieth, let him glory in theLord. 1 Cor 2:1 And I, brethren, whenI came to you, came not withexcellency of speech or of wis-dom, declaring unto you the tes-timony of God. 2 For I deter-mined not to know any thingamong you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 3 And I waswith you in weakness, and infear, and in much trembling. 4And my speech and my preach-ing was not with enticingwords of man’s wisdom, but indemonstration of the Spirit andof power: 5 That your faithshould not stand in the wisdomof men, but in the power of God.6 Howbeit we speak wisdomamong them that are perfect: yetnot the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of thisworld, that come to nought: 7But we speak the wisdom ofGod in a mystery, even the hid-den wisdom, which Godordained before the world untoour glory: (KJV)

Phil 3:7 But what things weregain to me, those I counted lossfor Christ. 8 Yea doubtless, and Icount all things but loss for theexcellency of the knowledge ofChrist Jesus my Lord: for whomI have suffered the loss of allthings, and do count them butdung, that I may win Christ, 9And be found in him, not havingmine own righteousness, whichis of the law, but that which isthrough the faith of Christ, therighteousness which is of Godby faith: 10 That I may knowhim, and the power of his resur-rection, and the fellowship of hissufferings, being made conform-able unto his death; 11 If by anymeans I might attain unto theresurrection of the dead. 12 Notas though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but Ifollow after, if that I may appre-hend that for which also I amapprehended of Christ Jesus.

II Th 2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of ourLord Jesus Christ, and by ourgathering together unto him, 2That ye be not soon shaken inmind, or be troubled, neither byspirit, nor by word, nor by letteras from us, as that the day ofChrist is at hand. 3 Let no mandeceive you by any means: forthat day shall not come, exceptthere come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Whoopposeth and exalteth himselfabove all that is called God, orthat is worshipped; so that he asGod sitteth in the temple of God,shewing himself that he is God.(KJV)

Wherefore hesaith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the hum-ble. 7 Submit yourselves there-fore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Draw nigh to God, and he willdraw nigh to you. Cleanse yourhands, ye sinners; and purifyyour hearts, ye double minded. 9Be afflicted, and mourn, andweep: let your laughter beturned to mourning, and yourjoy to heaviness. 10 Humbleyourselves in the sight of theLord, and he shall lift you up.

Heb 6:1 Therefore leaving theprinciples of the doctrine ofChrist, let us go on unto perfec-tion; not laying again the foun-dation of repentance from deadworks, and of faith toward God,(KJV)

1 Pet 1:13 Wherefore gird upthe loins of your mind, besober, and hope to the end forthe grace that is to be broughtunto you at the revelation ofJesus Christ; 14 As obedientchildren, not fashioning your-selves according to the formerlusts in your ignorance: 15 Butas he which hath called you isholy, so be ye holy in all man-ner of conversation; 16Because it is written, Be yeholy; for I am holy. 17 And ifye call on the Father, who with-out respect of persons judgethaccording to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourninghere in fear: 18 Forasmuch as yeknow that ye were not redeemedwith corruptible things, as silverand gold, from your vain con-versation received by traditionfrom your fathers; 19 But withthe precious blood of Christ, asof a lamb without blemish andwithout spot: 20 Who verily wasforeordained before the founda-tion of the world, but was mani-fest in these last times for you,21 Who by him do believe inGod, that raised him up from thedead, and gave him glory; thatyour faith and hope might be inGod. 22 Seeing ye have purifiedyour souls in obeying the truththrough the Spirit untounfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another witha pure heart fervently: 23 Beingborn again, not of corruptibleseed, but of incorruptible, by theword of God, which liveth andabideth for ever. 24 For all fleshis as grass, and all the glory ofman as the flower of grass. Thegrass withereth, and the flowerthereof falleth away: 25 But the

word of the Lord endureth forever. And this is the word whichby the gospel is preached untoyou. (KJV)

1 Pet 2:19 For this is thankwor-thy, if a man for consciencetoward God endure grief, suffer-ing wrongfully. 20 For whatglory is it, if, when ye be buffet-ed for your faults, ye shall takeit patiently? but if, when ye dowell, and suffer for it, ye take itpatiently, this is acceptable withGod. 21 For even hereunto wereye called: because Christ alsosuffered for us, leaving us anexample, that ye should followhis steps: (KJV)

So, the “doctrine of no suffer-ing, because we are saved bygrace (only),” is ANOTHERdoctrine/gospel (Gal.1:9-10) andis False and DANGEROUS. Webelieve this because this doctrineis so easy and there is not muchwork; see 2Pet.4:17-19. Somany are buying into it, eventhose proclaiming to be of theone true Church/ (faith). Wemust teach the whole council ofGod (Acts 20:27). We mustteach the whole truth (John17:17). The WORD teaches usthat we are saved by manythings; baptism doth also nowsave us (1Peter 3:21). We arealso saved by GRACE,THROUGH FAITH (Eph.2:8)etc. We must always rememberJames 2:14-26…so faith with-out works is dead… (KJV)

The question now would be,how is the one true faith(Eph.4:4-6) obtained? Read;Rom 10:17 So then faith comethby hearing, and hearing by theword of God. (KJV)

IS JUST, HEARING GOODENOUGH?

Read; James 1:21 Whereforelay apart all filthiness and super-

fluity of naughtiness, andreceive with meekness theengrafted word, which is able tosave your souls. 22 But be yedoers of the word, and nothearers only, deceiving yourown selves. 23 For if any be ahearer of the word, and not adoer, he is like unto a manbeholding his natural face in aglass: 24 For he beholdeth him-self, and goeth his way, andstraightway forgetteth what man-ner of man he was. 25 Butwhoso looketh into the perfectlaw of liberty, and continueththerein, he being not a forgetfulhearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in hisdeed. 26 If any man among youseem to be religious, and bri-dleth not his tongue, butdeceiveth his own heart, thisman’s religion is vain. 27 Purereligion and undefiled beforeGod and the Father is this, Tovisit the fatherless and widowsin their affliction, and to keephimself unspotted from theworld. (KJV)

IS JUST, “BELIEVING” GOODENOUGH?

Phil 1:29 For unto you it isgiven in the behalf of Christ, notonly to believe on him, but alsoto suffer for his sake; 30Having the same conflict whichye saw in me, and now hear tobe in me.

James 2: 14 What doth it profit,my brethren, though a man sayhe hath faith, and have notworks? can faith save him? 15 Ifa brother or sister be naked, anddestitute of daily food, 16 Andone of you say unto them,Depart in peace, be ye warmedand filled; notwithstanding yegive them not those thingswhich are needful to the body;what doth it profit? 17 Even so

faith, if it hath not works, isdead, being alone. 18 Yea, a manmay say, Thou hast faith, and Ihave works: shew me thy faithwithout thy works, and I willshew thee my faith by myworks. 19 Thou believest thatthere is one God; thou doestwell: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20 But wilt thouknow, O vain man, that faithwithout works is dead? 21 Wasnot Abraham our father justifiedby works, when he had offeredIsaac his son upon the altar? 22Seest thou how faith wroughtwith his works, and by workswas faith made perfect? 23And the scripture was fulfilledwhich saith, Abraham believedGod, and it was imputed untohim for righteousness: and hewas called the Friend of God. 24Ye see then how that by works aman is justified, and not byfaith only. 25 Likewise also wasnot Rahab the harlot justified byworks, when she had receivedthe messengers, and had sentthem out another way? 26 For asthe body without the spirit isdead, so faith without works isdead also. (KJV)

So the doctrine, “Christ sufferedfor us, so that we don’t have to”is contrary to Scriptures. Thereis a SCRIPTURAL reason forthe suffering that CHRISTIANSMUST do, and endure in theFLESH. According to scriptureit is so that we can “CEASEfrom SIN, and SCARCELY beSAVED”.1 Pet 4:1 Forasmuch then asChrist hath suffered for us inthe flesh, arm yourselves like-wise with the same mind: forhe that hath suffered in the fleshhath ceased from sin; 2 Thathe no longer should live the restof his time in the flesh to thelusts of men, but to the will ofGod.(KJV)

1 Pet 4:17 For the time is comethat judgment must begin at thehouse of God: and if it firstbegin at us, what shall the endbe of them that obey not thegospel of God? 18 And if the(1)righteous (2)scarcely besaved, where shall the ungodlyand the sinner appear? 19Wherefore let them that sufferaccording to the will of Godcommit the keeping of theirsouls to him in well doing, asunto a faithful Creator.(KJV)

Definitions: (1)if the righteous-1342 dikaios-righteous, observ-ing divine laws 4) approved byor acceptable by God.(2)scarcely be saved-3433molis (mol’-is);probably by var.for 3425; with difficulty, 2) noteasily, that is, scarcely, veryrarely: KJV— hardly, scarce (-ly), + with much work.

Dear reader, remember the pur-pose of these articles is to seekthe TRUTH according to THEWORD, thereby exposingERROR, which is false doctrine, for the purpose of saving oursouls. We believe this is bestdone by definitions and the pre-ponderance of scriptures; whichis having superior weight, force, importance, or influence ofscripture. Again we believe thisallows SCRIPTURE to INTER-PRET SCRIPTURE, therebyallowing a better understandingon that topic. Thanks again foryour interest in the WORD ofTRUTH; GRACE and SALVA-TION; John 17:17-21; Acts20:29-32; James1:21-25. Afterall it is our MAP to HEAVEN,and away from HELL!
