COACH PROFILE CONTENTS
Full Name: Dinesha DevnarainDate of Birth: 12-11-1988
Briefly describe your personal philosophy or approach to coaching? In general, regardless of girls, women, boys and men, my main goal is to keep growing the player as a cricketer and a person in life! My approach to coaching is simple, I just want to make a cricketer better than they were than the previous season. I'm also big on giving options to what works best for the player rather than "my way or the highway".
What attributes do you consider essential to be a successful coach? You have to be objective, a peoples’ person, you have to have passion for the sport and what you do.You have to have a big heart and a rational head, you have to preservere through all the wins and losses! You have to be versatile and flexible through different age groups but most of all you have to have love, love for what you do and why you do it.
Who or what has been the biggest influence in your playing/coaching career? My family has not been much of a cricketing family but have been such a good support structure, not many families will advise or push for a female to go in a, "male dominant profession" but my family accepted my dreams and shared the love with me! My dad and mum never let me settle for just being good or ordinary, they always wanted me to compete or train as if I was always in second place of a race!
What are your views on the use of technology in coaching?I think its growing and I feel, if used for the right reasons, it will help the game immensely. I love the use of technology to help us as coaches in terms of bio mechanics and game awareness helps us to put things in perspective! My biggest thing with technology is that, we shouldn't lose ourselves as coaches, we shouldn't let the computer world do all the work, at the end of the day we have the cricketing brain and we will interpret that information! We still have to bring out that flair in us and also the player! I fully agree to the use of technology in coaching but to a certain extent, you still want to trademark your work with your style of coaching.
What do you expect from the players/Squad you work with?My philosophy, I just want them to try and improve or maintain from the previous session, having said that, I expect total dedication, commitment and respect of the game from them. I don't really entertain individualism in a team set up but I am big on senior players raising standards for the newer team mates! All I want is for everyone to have short and long term goals and respect equipment, the game and more importantly each other! Communication between all parties is key for me.
Most memorable cricketing experience or coaching moment? From a playing point of view, representing my country has been the biggest privilege for me, I'm honoured to say I've served my country for 6 years! Playing at Lords, always seems to top my most memorable list! From a coaching sense, being 24 years old and coaching my province, the KZN ladies team has been huge for me, but my coaching moments that stand out for me is that apart from winning tournaments or trophies, I love that I can grow a person and not just in cricket and that will always stand out for me. Advice to young players: Bring out that little person in you, that never gives up and wants to be better. Learn, love and respect this game because once you really can say I've given it all, you will reach such a satisfying point of your life.
Advice to other coaches : Be you!!! Bring your style of coaching into the game, its not always about winning even though that taste for victory is amazing! Just be you because I'll guarantee you that there will only be ONE you, and that's your patent of coaching already!

Advice to Young Coaches
COACHING TIPS
Practice humility - No matter what your athletic or academic accomplishments
you are going to have to prove yourself as a coach. Leave your ego at the door.
Keep Learning- Keep a note book of your ideas and observations.
Write in it as often as possible. It will be an invaluable reference as you progress through your career. I have filled Moleskin notebooks in my 43rd year of coaching.
Listen and watch - You have two eyes, two ears and one mouth for a reason.
Dress Professionally - That should not need explanation. Be fit, look the part.
Be the first to arrive and the last to leave - Earn your stripes. Never let anyone outwork you.
- Forget what you are being paid work until you get the job done.
- Do the ground work, in fact volunteer for it.
- If you are working with athletes that don’t speak English learn their language, it will open doors for you.
- File the theoretical peer reviewed stuff you learned in class.
- You are in the real world now, on the job it is about producing results, make the athletes better.
- Maintain professional distance from your athletes you are not their friend you are their coach.

Here is some advice for young coaches from my experiences. This advice reflects lessons that I learned, there is no need to make the same the same mistakes I made. Be prepared to pay your dues, you aren’t enlisted in the
army as a general. Learn the culture of the sport(s) you are working with ASAP. Do your homework.
