It’s great to have students back from their break and back into the valuable learning experiences our College affords them. Term IV is traditionally full of events such as awards nights (academic, cultural, sport) and Year 12 farewell. It is important to maintain focus on learning. Since the last Chronicle, our Year 9s have had a successful camp. A group of nearly forty students have ventured to the Snow and returned safely. We had a number of Dads and sons travel to Shoalwater Bay to assemble tents for the Singapore Army exercise. My thanks to all, who have given generously of their time in any of these events. This weekend, two of our OptiMinds teams travel to Brisbane for the Queensland finals of this event. We wish them well and know that they will represent TCC well.

PARENTS & FRIENDS AGM Thank you to this group for the wonderful work they do and the support they offer to the College. The 2012 executive: President Bruce Gorle Vice-President Marie Gorman Secretary Michelle Silver Treasurer Loretta Williams Were all re-elected to their positions for 2013 and I thank them for their commitment to the College. STUDENT FREE DAY Monday 22 October is a student free day. Many of our teachers will be attending Verification Panels looking at Year 12 work. The rest will be engaged in professional development. Mr Rob Alexander

From the DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

I would like to add my welcome back to school for all students and families in this final term. As always at TCC this will be another action packed term and I encourage all students to live the motto ‘Come, live life in all its fullness’. Already this week we have had the Whole College welcoming liturgy on Monday and yesterday we were visited by 21 Thai students studying English at CQU. They certainly added an exotic flavour to our classes for the day and I thank the TCC students who volunteered to look after them. Today the TCC Touch Football team travels to Brisbane to compete in the All Schools Carnival. Next week begins the Year 8 2013 Orientation Days, the Year 11 Leadership Camp on Wednesday – Friday and on Tuesday 16th we have a special event for all Year 12 students which will involve a visit from the RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service. I received an email this week which highlighted the effect student absences can have on their performance. If a student misses on average one day per fortnight from school, that is 20 days a year (4 weeks) and over the 12 years of schooling that adds up to 1.5 years which means that student can only complete the equivalent level of Year 11 education. A student that misses one day per week on average (8 weeks a year) will only be able to meet the equivalent level of a Year 10 student on completion of their schooling. While these figures could be disputed, the point here is that absences from school do and will have an impact on the student’s level of education and that is why it is important for parents to limit the number of days a student is absent to what is unavoidable. I see more and more TV shows and businesses are now using Twitter to communicate and interact with viewers and customers. Twitter is a quick and easy way to get regular updates and reminders. Do you have a smart phone? Follow TCC on Twitter @TCCRockhampton. Mr Gerard Raven

From the ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL – STUDIES

YEAR 12 VERIFICATION AND EXIT LEVELS OF ACHIEVEMENT: Year 12 Verification meetings will be held on the 22 October. These meetings will view student work samples and validate the standard of student work. It is important to note that these standards established are provisional and require adjustment for the results of final assessment items to be completed in November. Consequently, it is very important that Year 12 students continue to maintain a high standard of work as their overall exit results are yet to be finalised. AWARDS NIGHT: The annual TCC Awards Night is on 2 November. Please keep up to date with the next two editions of the Chronicle to get information relating to this evening. God Bless Mr Andrew Stein

From the ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL – MISSION

Welcome back to Term 4. PC Mass: PC Mass is tomorrow at 8am in the Daily Mass Chapel at the Cathedral. Tomorrow’s Mass will be led by our Year 9 students. Next week will be Year 10 students. TCC/Parish Mass: Come along and celebrate our last TCC/Parish Mass for 2021. 6pm on THIS Saturday 13 October at St Joseph’s Cathedral. Welcome Liturgy of the Word: Well done to all the Liturgy Committee members, other Year 12s and the choir who were involved in the Welcome Liturgy on Monday. The annual St Vincent de Paul Christmas Giving Tree Appeal was launched during the Liturgy and the seniors have encouraged us to be generous in our support of the Appeal to help make a difference in the lives of others less fortunate. Every student has been asked to bring along something to place on the Giving Tree at the last Senior Assembly on 26 October. Some ideas that were given for gifts were: gifts for children/young people, gift cards from various retailers including Woolworths and Coles, money, i-tune gift cards, non-perishable Christmas produce such as Christmas cakes, Christmas puddings, bags of chips, bottles of softdrink etc. Prayers and blessings Mrs Claire Stitt

From the CULTURAL COORDINATOR

Welcome to Term Four. Cultural Presentations: On Tuesday 23 October we will celebrate the cultural achievements of students here at TCC. The presentations will commence at 5.30pm in the MPC. Students will receive certificates for participating in cultural activities throughout the year. Special awards will be presented to students who represented the College at a regional, State or Australian level and the Oratory winners will be presented with their trophies. Our four Gold award winning ensembles from the Queensland Catholic Schools Music Festival will perform and the evening will culminate with the announcement of the Junior and Senior Cultural Award winners. Following the presentations a BBQ will be on sale for those who wish to take advantage of a hassle-free tea. Please return the tear-off slip on the invitation indicating whether or not your son or daughter will be present to receive his/her award. Please indicate if you will be staying for the BBQ tea. Thank you. Shep Program: College Choir members Celeste Hack, Campbell Kelly, Rachel Lahz, Amy Lewis and Justin Rodgers were invited to attend the State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in Brisbane during the holidays. The SHEP program gives students the wonderful opportunity to work with professional musicians alongside students from various schools throughout Queensland. I was very pleased to be present for the final concert and was amazed at the quality of the choral presentations after only three rehearsals. Well done to our choristers. Shakespearean Stars: Congratulations to Zhanae Conway-Dodd, Rhys McKenzie and Elizabeth Peel for their wonderful performances in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Zhanae, Rhys and Elizabeth attended workshops for several months leading up to the presentation of the play. The workshops were run by the Backbone company in combination with Creative Capricornia. Well done students. Jammin’ Jazz Program: Four of our students attended the Jammin’ Jazz program run by CQU during the recent holidays. Congratulations to Amelia Bartlem (trumpet), Jessica Paton (Piano), Liam Keily and Isaac Fox (both guitar) on your enthusiastic dedication to your music. The students thoroughly enjoyed the workshops and the opportunity to make music with students from other schools in the region and very experienced jazz musicians. Shoalwater Bay: Many thanks to the wonderful helpers who represented the cultural sector of the College by setting up tents at Shoalwater Bay during the recent holidays. The Cultural Support Group will receive some funds thanks to their efforts. The Brass section of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra visited the College today. An appreciative group of music students enjoyed their half hour performance. Following the concert the brass students (and brass students from other schools) attended a workshop with the group and were given the opportunity to play alongside these accomplished musicians. Thanks to Mr Michael Jones for organising this great opportunity for our music students. AMEB Exams: Congratulations to Campbell Kelly AmusA. Campbell recently received his Associate Diploma in Music (Piano), Australia. This diploma is awarded by examination to outstanding candidates in their particular musical field by
