Children’s Church Hiatus
Please note that in order to allow our dedicated volun-teers quality time with their families, (not to mention a well deserved break!) we will not have Children’s Church during the month of July. This will be for five Sundays, beginning with July 2nd. Children’s Church will resume the first Sunday of August.
A WORD FROM THE INTERIM PASTOR….
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – There will be an abundance of
noise and fun around Smithwood next week as we kick off Vaca-
tion Bible School for 1917. This special week for boys and girls
will take place Sunday through Thursday from 6:00 until 8:15 PM.
Be in prayer for a successful VBS and that our children will be
strengthened in the faith or make a first time commitment to Jesus
Christ.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD – This coming Saturday
morning there will be a packing party for the OCC ministry. I
have been most impressed with the commitment Smithwood Bap-
tist Church has made to this unique ministry touching the lives of
children and youth around the world.
MID POINT OF THE SUMMER – Many of our families are away
from time to time on vacations and in other activities. Your attend-
ance and financial contributions are crucial to the health and vitality
of your church family. Thank you for continued faithful support.
QUOTE – “How sweet the name of Jesus sounds, in a believer’s
ear. It soothes his sorrow, heals his wounds, and drives away his
fear.” John Newton
Dr. Larry W. Fields, Interim Pastor

Vacation Bible School
Begins this Sunday, July 16th and runs through Thursday, July 20th from 6:00-8:15 p.m.
It’s never to late to volunteer!
We will be decorating for VBS this Saturday, July 15th, immediately following the Operation Christmas Child packing party. If you can help, please join us. Many hands make light work!
UTK PRAYER WALK Saturday, August 12th at 8:30 a.m.
Hosted by the UTK Baptist Collegiate Ministry
DEFY THE 80%
You have probably heard the statistics. Around 80% of your gradu-ating seniors will disconnect from faith once they come to college. The harder fact is that many of these incoming students have no back-ground in faith to even walk away from. So will you help us by joining us in prayer before the Fall semester starts. Would you come cover the campus in prayer so we might see revival happen at the University of Tennessee?
PRAYER WALK INFO
Join us at the BCM at 8:30 on August 12th for a light breakfast and to hear from the staff about BCM ministry. From there, you will join with a group to go to different parts of campus to pray. Expect to be out for about 45 minutes to an hour. Do not be discouraged from coming if walking is an issue; there will be close and in-house prayer opportu-nities as well. RSVP: Email [email protected] or call 865-546-8272 Please let us know if you're coming so we can ensure that we have enough breakfast to energize all of our prayer warriors!
A young man was at the end of his rope. Seeing no way out, he dropped to his knees in prayer. "Lord, I can't go on," he said, "I have too heavy of a cross to bear." The Lord replied, "My son, if you can't bear its weight, just place your cross inside this room. Then, open that oth-er door and pick out any cross you wish." The man was filled with relief and said, "Thank you,
Lord," and he did as he was told. Upon entering the other door, he saw many crosses, some so large the tops were not visible. Then, he spotted a tiny cross leaning against a far wall. "I'd like that one, Lord," he whis-pered. And the Lord replied, "My son, that is the cross you just brought in." When life's problems seem overwhelming, it helps to look around and see what other people are coping with. You may consider yourself far more fortunate than you imagined.
