OVERWHELMING

This is an exciting time of year for us, and if you have been following the trend in the past few years, it probably is an exciting time for you, too. Last year we had to say goodbye to the trusty Yamaha Rhino, which was replaced by the Yamaha Viking. This year the Viking line surpassed what we saw with the Rhino. We always hoped for a 4-seat Rhino, but it wasn’t until this year that Yamaha stepped up and entered into the multi-passenger arena with the Viking VI, giving it the ability to carry 5 (plus driver) adventure-seeking friends or 5 hardworking co-workers. For 2014 we have to say goodbye to yet another popular UTV that was largely responsible for the sport market and what it has become today. Much like the Yamaha Rhino, the RZR 800 was reliable but offered more power and speed with a 50” track width. It appealed to a larger demographic. This year the RZR 800/RZR 800 S is replaced by the all-new RZR 900/RZR 900 S. At first glance, you may think you are looking at an RZR XP 1000, and that is because from the B-pillar forward it truly is. In fact, accessories like bumpers, side nerf bars and door inserts are interchangeable with the XP1K. So for those of you that are confused whether the new RZR 900 replaces the RZR XP 900, the answer is no. Let me clarify. The RZR 900 replaces the RZR 800. The RZR XP 1000 replaces the RZR XP 900. Polaris will continue to offer the XP 900 as well as the RZR 800 4S for a limited time. If you are looking to purchase one of these off the showroom floor, time is running out. Currently the only hole in the Polaris lineup is an RZR 900 4S, which we can only assume will be revealed shortly. Arctic Cat has also been busy this year adding a 60” Wildcat Sport to their expanding line of Wildcats. The Wildcat Sport is based off of the recently introduced 50” Wildcat Trail. Arctic Cat also freshened up the Prowler line with redesigned exterior bodywork as well as a new, redesigned cockpit. For the first time since the UXV from Kymco was introduced, they added a completely new vehicle to their line with the UXV 450i. This

new addition is a great option for budget-minded individuals entering into the sport. Along the same line of thinking, Honda also introduced a budget vehicle with the Pioneer 500. The Pioneer 500 is the third addition to the 50” market, where just last year the only option was a Polaris RZR 800. Honda brought an interesting option that we have yet to see with the introduction of a 5-speed transmission and steering column-mounted paddle shifters. This year Kawasaki has made a huge leap forward with their all-new Mule Pro-FXT multi-passenger UTV. The Mule FXT can go from a 3- to 6-passenger configuration in seconds. It still has all of the familiar Mule traits -- heavy load-hauling capability, industrial-grade powertrain, and plenty of accessory power options -- but it is now available in a sportier package! With the popularity and reliability of the Mule brand, the FXT will give the competition a run for its money. Can-Am is on the gas, literally, this year with the only manufacturer to date to release a factory Turbo option. The Maverick X ds brings the power output up to 121-hp, and to handle the additional power they reconfigured the rear suspension, bringing the wheel travel to 16” and the redesigned front A-arm suspension with 15-in. of travel. ANOTHER CLEAN SWEEP IN WORCSRZRS FILL THE PRO CLASS PODIUM

VEGLIA EARNS THIRD IN CAN-AM MAVERICK AT GLEN HELEN

Can-Am Maverick pilot Pablo Veglia earned third place in the competitive SxS Pro Class at round eight of the World Off-Road Championship Series held in Devore, California.

“Pablo Veglia put in a podium-worthy performance behind the wheel of his Maverick at Glen Helen, especially considering the tough course, number of entries and extremely high temperatures,” said Jeff Leclerc, Racing Project Leader, Can-Am.

Round eight of WORCS stopped at the famed Glen Helen Raceway in Southern California. Racers were greeted with brutally high temperatures that exceeded110 F. Twenty-six total side-by-side racers competed in the SxS Pro ranks at round eight. A little over half of them finished the race, and only nine racers finished on the lead lap. Can-Am Maverick 1000R X rs pilots Pablo Veglia and Gilbert Flores each recorded top-10 finishes.

Veglia earned his first SxS Pro class podium of the year, taking third place. The Del Amo Motorsports / Can-Am driver actually held second place for two laps of the five-lap Pro main, but ended up with a season-best third overall. He finished with a time of 46:55.639, which was less than three seconds behind second place. The podium finish moved him into seventh in the SxS Pro class point standings with one round remaining on the season.

“The Can-Am Maverick handled so well and gets better every race,” said Veglia. “It is a great platform for us to build a strong team and hopefully bring home a championship next year. I was able to gain valuable points going into the finale.”

Flores ended up seventh overall in his Motoworks / DWT / Can-Am Maverick, with a five-lap time of 00:50:26.919. He put in an impressive run, coming from 13th after lap one to pick off six racers, on his way to his first top-10 finish of the year (in four events). Kyle Melville was running in the top three in the SxS 1000 class in his Del Amo Motorsports / Can-Am Maverick, but ended up ninth. He’s sixth in the class point standings heading into the season finale in Primm, Nevada.

Polaris Factory Racers are tearing it up in WORCS this year and Round 7,

at Straddleline ORV Park, in McCleary, Washington, would be no different.

Polaris/Holz Racing’s Beau Baron would take the checkered flag with Polaris/

Cognito Racing’s Ryan Piplic taking second and Polaris/Guthrie Racing’s Mitch

Guthrie Jr. taking third. Mark Holz, driving RJ Anderson’s RZR XP 1000, would

take fourth, with RZRs finishing in the top six spots in the class.

With two races remaining, the competition is heating up, but Baron continues

to lead the SxS Pro series points with 152, followed by Guthrie Jr. with 130 and

Piplic with 121. Anderson currently sits in fifth with 106.

BARON SEALS WORCS CHAMPIONSHIP WITH WIN AT ROUND 8

Polaris Factory Racers were back in action at Glen Helen, in Devore, California

for WORCS Round 8. Polaris/Holz Racing’s Beau Baron would take another win

to seal the WORCS Pro SxS championship for the second consecutive year.

Starting in the front row, Baron would take second off the start and take the

lead when Polaris Factory Racer Mitch Guthrie Jr’s car suffered an unfortunate

mechanical issue. Another fellow racer, Polaris/Loan Mart/Holz Racing’s RJ

Anderson would finish second, moving him to fourth in the series points for

the class. With one round left, Polaris Factory Racer Ryan Piplic sits in second in

points with fellow Polaris Racer, Mitch Guthrie Jr. in third.

“Polaris would like to congratulate Beau on another incredible season,” said

Donna Beadle, Polaris Factory Racing Race Team Manager. “Beau and all of our

WORCS Factory Racers, RJ, Ryan and Mitch, have done a great job keeping RZR

on top of the box.”

JAGGED X WINS RIGID INDUSTRIES SCORE DESERT CHALLENGE

POLARIS RZR RACERS FINISH ONE, TWO

Minneapolis, Oct. 3, 2014-The Rigid Industries SCORE Desert Challenge is a two-day, semi-short course format held at Coyne Powersports Complex near Imperial, Calif. The classes were divided into groups and each group raced in two heats with the times being combined to determine the winners. Jagged X’s Brandon Schueler would fill in for Matt Parks in the No. 1932 RZR and start in fifth place for the first race. Schueler would work his way towards the front, chasing Polaris Racer Johnny Angal for a few laps, and finally take the lead to the flag. Angal would finish second in his UTV Inc. RZR. On Sunday, the second race would see Schueler and Angal start on the front row. Schueler was able to pull the hole shot and take it pole-to-pole for the win. Angal would take second overall by only 15 seconds.

The next race for the Polaris Factory Racing Desert Racers is Best in the Desert Blue Water Desert Challenge, October 10-12.

POLARIS DONATES $10,000 TO ALS

Polaris Donates $10,000 to ALS After Dealers Complete Ice Bucket Challenge Polaris Industries Inc. donated $10,000 to ALS research after more than 100 dealers accepted an invitation from Scott Wine, Polaris chairman and CEO, to join him in taking the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness and funds for the disease. On Aug. 22, Polaris shared a video of Wine completing the Ice Bucket Challenge and in turn nominating Polaris’ network of dealers to do the same, noting that if 100 dealers accepted the challenge, Polaris would donate an additional $10,000 towards ALS research. Within 7 days, more than 100 dealers completed the challenge and in addition to submitting videos, many went above and beyond and also made personal donations. “We are extremely proud of the strong response we received from Polaris dealers across the country and happy to provide this additional donation to support ALS research,” said Wine. “Polaris dealers are a strong part of our team and share the value our company places on giving back.” Polaris has a long history of supporting ALS, having been involved with the Black Woods Blizzard Tour, a snowmobile ride to fight ALS, since its inception 15 years ago. The Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A., 2015 Viking Side-by-Side (SxS) is rolling off the U.S. assembly line in Newnan, Georgia, just in time for fall hunting and harvest. Polaris Announces Grand Opening of Manufacturing Facility in PolandThe brand-new facility will be Polaris’ first dedicated manufacturing facility

for Off-Road Vehicles outside North America

Polaris Industries Inc. recently announced the grand opening of its new manufacturing facility in Opole, Poland. The 345,000-square-foot facility will be the first Polaris plant dedicated to manufacturing Off-Road Vehicles (ORV’s) outside of North America. Employee training has already begun at the Opole facility, which will employ 300 people in 2015 and should begin shipments to customers in the first quarter of 2015. The plant will produce approximately 35 different ORV vehicle models in 2015, and ship them to six subsidiaries and over thirty distributors in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (“EMEA”) region. Opole will also house research and design for the Europe, Middle East and Africa markets allowing vehicles to be tailored to local needs. “With a stated goal of a third of our total Company sales outside North America, the Opole facility is a cornerstone for our international growth plans, as it provides both a timely capacity increase and a localized manufacturing presence that allows us to provide the best possible experience for our customers across Europe, the Middle East and Africa,” said Scott Wine, Polaris Chairman and CEO. “We are incredibly excited to add the highly-skilled employees in Poland to our outstanding Polaris team and confident in their ability to spur ongoing growth in the EMEA region.” “With our engineering and manufacturing assets in Poland, we will be able to develop and manufacture products specifically for this market. We will reduce the order lead time for our customers and will be able to provide better customer service. We also have opportunities to source more of our component parts locally from suppliers within the region. The facility will also focus on operational efficiency by incorporating LEAN manufacturing processes such as 5S implementation and visual management methodology. “This project is the greatest example that dreams come true. We are very proud that Polaris has decided to choose Opole as a partner on the other side of the ocean,” said Opole President Ryszard Zembaczyński. “It was a big challenge to complete this project for the City, Opole institutions and Opole University of Technology. I do believe Polaris feels here at home.”The Opole facility took just over a year to construct with only 15 months lapsed from the time the building contract was signed to production start. The Building features include a 2,500 meter product test track and energy saving paint systems. The plant has capacity for up to 500 employees to help Polaris meet future market demand. This facility is built on nearly 30 acres, within the Walbrzych Special Economic Zone in Opole, Poland, an area dedicated to encouraging economic growth in the region.

K&T’S FOUNDING FAMILY WAS BUILT WITH HORSEPOWER RUNNING THROUGH THEIR VEINS. WITH THE LAST NAME “MUCHMORE”, YOU CAN BET THEY AREN’T BUILDING ANY BORING UTVS- AND YES, THAT IS THEIR REAL LAST NAME. Rayce Muchmore of K&T claims he built this beautiful RZR XP4 for his wife. If that is true, we can’t believe she let Rayce come to DuneFest 2014 with it! Rayce said he wanted to build a custom four-seater to haul around the family, but seeing as he is part of the K&T Performance family, we knew this would not be a normal family cruiser. Starting with the engine, K&T threw a big bag of horsepower tricks into this XP4. Starting with their bolt-on XP1000 turbo kit, which runs over 190 horsepower on race fuel, K&T then turned to head porting, turbo pistons, rods and valves. This not only increases horsepower, but engine longevity, as the stock pistons are not designed to handle high-boost applications. The fuel and timing are handled by a stand-alone Motec Engine Management System with a full color display mounted on the dash. The Motec system is the same one race teams use to tune Class One cars, Trophy Trucks, drift cars, and more. The turbocharger feeds compressed air through an air-to-air intercooler that sits behind the rear seats, keeping intake air temperatures down. For those who don’t want to run race gas, K&T also has a 91 octane, 6 psi pump gas kit available that still makes big power! Transferring the power from the engine to the massive paddles is a set of STM Z1 billet CVT clutches. STM Powersports is based in Michigan, and produces high-performance clutches for snowmobiles and UTVs. Their billet clutches adapt the RZR transmission to a larger belt, which allows greater grip and durability when running extreme horsepower numbers. The

STM clutches also have much more adjustability than stock, and will actually increase the amount of horsepower transmitted to the rear wheels. The fully-adjustable clutches are pricey, but worth every penny if you’re running big horsepower numbers. Out back, the exhaust runs through a set of Sparks Racing mufflers that give it just the right about of back pressure, and top it off with a nice exhaust note. Sparks Racing is a company who also knows how to make big power, so the combination here ends with horsepower numbers you would expect from a sports sedan. If you’re in a more noise-sensitive area, K&T can also set you up to use the stock muffler, albeit with a horsepower loss. All that power would be useless if you had to slow down for every bump and G-out, so Rayce called up Lonestar Racing for their MTS long travel system. The kit starts at $3,290, and is built from certified 4130 chromoly tubing for excellent strength. Lonestar boosts overall width by 7 inches, wheelbase by 3”, and wheel travel extends to over 20”. Since it is configured to use a stock-length shock, K&T had UTV Resource re-spring and re-valve the shocks. Also included was a new UTV Resource rear swaybar, which is both stronger and stiffer than the stock unit. With the mechanics out of the way, Rayce turned to TMW Off-Road for the roll cage and doors. TMW’s standard Phantom X-4 cage is lower than stock, but Rayce had TMW drop the rear even more for an aggressive roofline. With kids in the back seat, there isn’t a worry about helmet clearance. The sides were finished off with TMW Side Winder doors, and up front is a full windshield. If you haven’t seen TMW’s work up-close, you’re missing out on some of the best attention to detail in the industry. Fullerton Sand Sports supplied a set of Sand Tires Unlimited paddles to put the massive power to the ground. #2 cut rear paddles mean that there is a TON of scooping area for the turbo motor to dig into the earth. The rears got a comp cut to lighten them up and give the paddles more bite- this means that the body of the tire is shaved down even further than normal, leaving more paddle protruding and a rougher surface on the tire carcass. They are mounted on DWT aluminum wheels, which are extremely lightweight and strong. Inside the cab, four Triple X Venom suspension seats were

installed with PRP harnesses to make sure everyone stays snug in their seats. The Venom seat features heavy leg and hip bolstering with a wider top section that still allows comfortable movement while belted in. To finish off this awesome car, Rayce enlisted Elite Customs for a complete custom paint job. Elite is based in West Haven, Utah, less than 10 miles from the K&T headquarters in Roy. From afar, the light blue on black paint job is striking, but it isn’t until you get up close and see the details that the paint job really begins to shine. Even the dash and plastic panels are painted to match, offering a more cohesive, brilliant appearance whether it’s parked or racing up a dune face.

This K&T build was a showstopper- it took first place in the Show ‘N Shine competition at the first annual UTV Invasion this year. MAVERICK X DS TURBO / MAX X DS TURBOAlong with the suspension and drivetrain updates the X ds receives for 2015, Can-Am has added another option: a turbocharger. Clicking the turbo box upgrades engine performance with a 20 horsepower boost, offering a claimed 40% more torque than the leading competitor (RZR 1K). A 20 horsepower boost from turbocharging is ludicrously low, meaning that either Can-Am left a TON of horsepower on the table that will be unlockable via ECU tuning, or they’re just severely understating its power output. We think it’s a little of both, as the intercooled turbo engine should be good for at least 160 horsepower on pump gas. We get our hands on one very shortly, so stay tuned (pun intended).

UXV 450I/TURF/CAMO/LE 50th Anniversary Kymco’s entry-level 450i uses their 443cc single-cylinder engine, and represents the lower end of the UTV price spectrum. The Kymco’s quality is quite impressive, and we have had zero complaints with liability with any of our test units. The moderately equipped base model is relatively frill-free, but the Turf and Camo models get upgraded tire combinations, with the Turf gaining an unlocking rear differential. The 22.84 lb tires look aggressive wrapped around the yellow aluminum John Deere wheels. The tire’s large lugs and arrow-shaped center tread portion make for big traction in loamy soil. The deeper the soil, the better they grip- perfect for our rocky, silty Arizona test bed. On hardpack, they track well and offer a precise steering feel. If you’re in soil deep

enough to reach the side lugs, these tires will allow you to tractor through just about anything. We didn’t experience a single puncture or slow leak in our testing, and the tires held air for over a month without reinflation. Lug thump and humming is muffled well by the center tread pattern, which offers minimal noise and vibration. Breckenridge, CO is known for it’s great skiing during the winter months. When the weather warms up and the snow finally melts away, OHV’s can access these great mountain

high trails. From the northside of Breckenridge we headed east on Tiger Road about 5 miles. There were several spots to stage on this road, we choose a large staging area just before the trailhead. The start was a mix of narrow forest roads and steep loose rock climbs as we headed up North Middle Fork of the Swan River. A small pictureque cabin was at the very top of Wise Mountain (12,600ft.) From the cabin, we followed the ridge line north above the trees towards Glacier Mountain. The trip descended into Montezuma with stunning scenery, historic buildings and real adventure. In the town we enjoyed a packed lunch as we sat by a crystal clear river. Due to time restrictions, we passed on driving to the top of Santa Fee Peak (13,180ft.) and continued on to Webster Pass. There are narrow switchbacks on both sides of the pass where meeting on-coming traffic presented a challenge. Handcart Gulch weaved through the trees on a twisty path and connected to the start of the famous Red Cone. Although the scenery is breathtaking at the top of this trail, you may be a bit preoccupied to enjoy it. After the thrilling experience on Red Cone, we drove Radical Hill. The trail is a short, white-knuckle climb to another outstanding view at 12,600ft. We finished off the day riding back down Middle Fork of the Swan River. Walking away from this trip we realized that there was too much to see in one day. We really could have spent 2 days exploring this area.

The other trails are a mixture of smooth packed dirt and minor rocky sections. Time: Plan on 6-8 hours to do all the trails we described with only taking a few short breaks. It would take a weekend to really explore the area and enjoy the scenery.Staging/Camping: Large wide areas on Tiger Road for staging. Camping for RVs and tenting at the begining of North and South Middle Fork of the Sawn.

Our new turn indicator kit is unique from the other kits on the market. This kit is truly plug ‘n play- no wires to cut, no crimping. With only power, ground and an OEM harness plug, it installs in minutes. Like many cars on the road today, our kit uses the factory brake lights as turn indicators. Most other kits use one 8/4 marker light for each turn indicator. The factory lights are many times larger, making it much easier to be seen. Since these vehicles are used primarily for off road use, we use a turn signal switch on the dash, including a hazard switch instead of those cumbersome turn levers that break off.
