July 22, 2020 Vol. 34, No. 7 On May 11, 2020, the Church Council approved the formaon of the Task Force for Re-entry and Response to the Pandemic. The Task Force includes clergy, staff, and lay members who have been tasked in the collaboraon and guidance for our decision-making and acvies in response to COVID-19. The Task Force conducted a congregaonal survey and was pleased to receive several hundred responses. The overwhelming response was that on-line worship met or exceeded expectaons. Respondents felt that we should proceed gradually with appropriate care in keeping everyone safe. Over 2/3 of the respondents indicated that they considered themselves in the “at-risk” group. A limited number of respondents indicated that they were ready to return to worship. The senments of love for each other as well as the fellowship and work of the church are appreciated and acknowledged. It is difficult to be physically isolated from family and friends, including our church family. The reality is that the Task Force does not foresee that in-person worship will resume for some me to come, most likely unl there is a vaccine for the virus and it has been widely administered. Our love and concern for each other is too great to take any unnecessary risks in resuming in-person worship at the church. We know that we will connue to be blessed by the inspiraon, creavity, love, and hard work that the clergy and staff connue to bring to online worship! The Task Force considers that FUMC’s response will be measured and gradual and will pass through several phases as follows: Phase 0: Complete shutdown of FUMC Phase 1: Limited staff at church as needed to ensure crical funcons are met Phase 2: Limited ministries resume at church that cannot funcon remotely Phase 3: Expanded staff onsite and addional ministries resume that cannot funcon remotely Phase 4: FUMC is open for in-person worship Phase 5: Addional ministries resume in- person as re-entry plans are presented and approved In order for any person or group be allowed to resume meeng, an appropriate re-entry plan will need to be developed by the group and approved by the Task Force and Church Council. Re-entry plans for the First Care Child Care Center and the Kids Adventure Program were submied and approved. The Task Force is monitoring these acvies as they consider future staff presence and acvies. The Task Force established protocols for limited staff and others entry to FUMC, including a sign-in and -out log, required responses to health screening quesons, social distancing requirements, and a mandate of mask-wearing. We connue to discern and plan our steps on moving forward to re-entry with the realizaon that we will have many challenges. We are operang with a great deal of uncertainty, with on-going changes in condions and updates in medical and scienfic informaon. We will work and plan with the confidence that the Holy Spirit is at work in our lives individually and as a faith community. God is good and we will create ways to be the church in a world that yearns and watches for signs of hope.

Did you know that United Methodist Women continues to find ways to support the church's adopted school, Spring Valley Elementary, as they plan for the next school year? In August, each staff member will have an electric pencil sharpener in their room thanks to the generosity of UMW and FUMC members!
