THE FRUITS OF GOD’S SUMMER HARVEST

“The fruit of the Holy Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity,

faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. There is no law against such things.

If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit.” - Galatians

5:22,23 & 25

As I am writing, I am at Ebert Ranch Camp in the Texas Hill Country, along

with 6 youth from Grace Lutheran Church (GLC). Even in this hot and dry

climate, the reddish-purple fruit of countless prickly pear cactus plants are in

bloom. Also, a trip to the produce section of your local grocery store shows off

the colorful array of fruits in season – watermelons, blueberries, dark cherries

and strawberries, to name a few – to delight our eyes and our taste buds.

These fruits remind me of fruits I’m seeing growing spiritually in the lives of

children and youth of Grace Lutheran Church and our community this summer.

This has been especially evident to me during the 3 weeks of camp – this week

at Ebert Ranch Camp, last week during Vacation Bible School (VBS)/Day

Camp attended by 30 kids, and early in July at Camp Chrysalis, near Kerrville,

attended by 10 kids from Grace. I’ve also seen it in the smiles of kids in

Sunday worships at Grace, including as they have come forward for children’s

sermons.

It’s exciting to see our young people getting excited about their own faith in

God, through lively worships and songs, plus insightful times of Bible study.

We can also see it as they have connected with the counselors of Cross Trails

ministry (all 3 of the camp weeks) and with caring adults from Grace Lutheran

who have given their time and effort in planning for these events, in providing

and preparing food and by being a listening ear. Through it all, they’ve been in

safe environments and have had a great time with each other!

Already, we can see fruits that are starting to grow, and we pray and trust God

that in the coming months and years they will bear more fruit. We give thanks

to God for all of these fruits of summer. Thanks to you for your prayers for

them and me, for the post cards you’ve written to the kids at camp, and/or the

financial gifts you’ve given!

Joyfully in Christ’s service, Pastor Bryan Dziadik-Willingham

Our Faith Lesson will be: Work Hard Like Ants”

(Proverbs 6:6-8)

Thank you to: Addisyn and Ashtyn Zamora for

donating their playhouse! Thank you to VBS/Day

Camp for donating their extra food and ice cream

from camp. We enjoyed that ice cream very

much! Also a big thank you to all the folks who

worked so hard to get the Parish Hall ready for us

to move in (see page 5). They did a fantastic job,

and a big thanks to the preschool staff who

miraculously got us so well set up for Monday

morning! Billy Ray Buckner has done a

tremendous job installing the dishwasher for us as

well as several other tasks, and Pastor Bryan also

has been lending a hand on all the little jobs

which we keep finding that need doing! Thank

you to Martin Salinas and David Rodriguez for

moving shelves and filing cabinets for us and to

Mark Larkin for trimming the playground trees. I

greatly appreciate all of you!

HEB cards: If you are interested in our

fundraising efforts through HEB gift cards, please

let Mrs. Larkin know. Now through September 1,

you get 11 cents off each gallon of gas with your

gift card!

Openings: We have one or two slots left in the

four-year-old class for the fall- for TTH mornings

and possibly full-time. If you know anyone who

might be interested, please have them call us!

Labor Day: We will be closed for Labor Day on

September 2.

New Building: We anticipate the old preschool

building to be removed within a few weeks and

hopefully we will be able to break ground by the

end of August or early September on the new

building. We have settled in nicely to the Parish

Hall and are looking forward to our new building!

We are making plans for a gala fundraising event

in October. Also we will have a Noah’s Ark donor

wall in the new building. If you would like to

have your family or child’s name on the ark,

please let us know! Forms are available.

Road to Recovery

Join a different kind of cancer drive. One that

does not ask for money, but time. Donate your

time to drive a cancer patient to and from

lifesaving cancer treatment. If you have a car and

can spare a few weekday hours per month,

between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., you could be of great

value to a cancer patient. All you have to do is

pick up the patient at his or her home, and provide

transportation to and from their treatment facility.

You tell us what times are best for you, whether it

is once a month or twice a week, and we will

work within your schedule. To learn more or to

sign up as a volunteer, contact the American

Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345 or visit

www.cancer.org.

Preschool Building Committee

Report

The Preschool Building Project

continues to move forward. The

house and attached car port on

Medina St. is in progress of

being moved. The car port is on

wheels and ready to move. The

house is in progress of being made

mobile. It appears that both units will be towed

away at the same time. Once these units are

moved, work will begin to move the existing

preschool building. The preschool, itself, has

relocated into the fellowship hall as of July 21,

2014. An update was given at the Congregational

meeting last Sunday and some visual aids of the

floor plan and long term use of the church

property were available for viewing. Final

construction plans are being received and made

available to the builder for cost estimates.

The possibility of a grant of a metal structure was

not received.
