Since 1996 our Church has presented SonRise as a gift to our surrounding communities. Every year, God has

blessed tremendously and many lives have been changed.

However, SonRise would not be possible without you. Your involvement as volun-teers has made this great endeavor a much easier process! If you have volunteered in the past, we want to urge you to volunteer again. (Please sign up, don’t make us call you!) If you have never volunteered, here is your chance to start a tradition of partici-pation!

There are many areas that need your help. Some of the areas include setting up and tearing down the Marketplace scene, the Sanctuary scene, and the Resurrection scene. We need people to distribute tick-

ets, greet, serve re-freshments, provide and prepare food, check costumes out and in, wash costumes, and help the soldiers get their armor on. We also need people to help check the staff shirts out and in the day of SonRise. These are just a few of the many areas you could be involved in.

A limited number of SonRise tickets to be used as outreach will be available to Collegedale Church members on Sabbath, March 17 and 24, while supplies last.

SonRise’s primary goal is to reach the non-Christians in our local community. We realize that without a personal invitation, many of those people would not attend. Church member family units may obtain up to six “outreach” tickets and tickets for the number of immediate family members listed in their household to attend with those they’ve invited. We encourage you to take only the number of tickets you actually plan

to use because, as you know the demand is always very high and we want to be able to reach as many in our community as possible with this life-changing story.

You will be asked to sign your name on our Church membership list showing your family picked up tickets, how many of each, and that you agree to use the tickets for outreach. Tickets will not be available during the week.

Tickets will be available to the general public beginning Sunday, March 26 and 27, in front of Belk for Men, near the children’s play area at Hamilton Place

Should you have a will? You may think “I have no sizeable assets,” so the answer is “no.” However, if you have minor children, they are your biggest reason to have a will.

A “Will Clinic” will be held in the Fellowshop Hall on April 1 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., April 2 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., and April 3 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Plan now to attend one of the clinics and provide for those you love in case something should happen to you. Use your will power.

Or if you can’t be at the clinic, leave your name and phone number with the Conference Trust Services Department to be visited as soon as possible. Call 1-800-567-1844.g

Be sure to mark your calendar for Sunday, March 11, for the 55+ Club meeting featuring the Grassharpers, a local bluegrass gospel band. Started in 2010 for the purpose of praising God, it has seven members: Brenda Thoresen on harp, Carl Brewer on harmonica, Carson Madewell on autoharp, Evelyn Madewell on fiddle, Ginger Slack dobro and vocals, Marilyn Reppond on bass, and Vincent Tan on guitar, vocals, and the emcee. They have performed at the Ruritan Club, country fairs, assisted living and nursing homes, and various church events.

The vegetarian luncheon will be held at the Fellowship

Hall and begins promptly at 12 noon with the program following at 12:50 p.m. A free will love offering will be taken.

Club members are to bring vegetarian dishes as follows:

A-C: Potato/pasta/rice dish

D-G: Vegetables

H-J: Bread/rolls/sandwiches

K-O: Salad

P-S: Dessert

T-Z: entrees

All foods should be brought by 11:30 a.m. and hot foods should be heated and ready to serve.

First time guests need not bring food, but should RSVP by calling Erling Odell at (423) 591-4779. Club members are reminded to pay their 2012 annual dues of $6.g

Mall. In order to provide tickets to as many people as possible, there is a ten ticket limit at the mall.

The April 7 pageant will begin in the Sanctuary and then continue across the University campus. The first group will leave at 8:45 a.m. and subsequent groups will leave in half-hour intervals between 9:30 and 2:30 p.m. Tickets are required for ALL Pageants. Children ages 6 and under do not need tickets. The entire experience will take approximately two hours, start to finish. A leisurely walk of about a mile is required. A wheelchair accessible route is available for those who may need it. (Maps will be available at the Welcome Desk.)

If attending SonRise has been a tradition for you and your family and friends we encourage you to take that tradition to the next level. You’ve experienced the blessing of SonRise. Why not get involved this year and see the pageant in a whole new way? You’ll be touched by the experience and, the tickets you and your family use will be available to reach someone who doesn’t yet know the story of Jesus. g

This is just a reminder that if you are participating in SonRise you are responsible for your own costume.

The Church’s costumes are for the University students and those who have been cast for specific parts (i.e. soldiers, Pilate, etc.).

Costumes do not have to be elaborate or expensive. A lot of the church’s costumes are made from sheets. The easiest way to make a costume is to fold the material in half (lengthwise) and then in half a second time. Measure the length you need (from shoulder to several inches from the floor) and cut straight across the material. At the side with the double fold cut a rounded piece out for the neck. About 15 inches from the top (on the side opposite the neck hole) cut three inches across and

then cut down, angling to the bottom corner. Cut sleeves out from leftover material. Sew sleeves on to either side of gown pieces. Hem around neck. Sew shoulder/sleeve seams. Sew down sides. Hem sleeves and bottom hem (if using sheets, sheet hem can be used).

When choosing fabric, choose solids and stripes...no flowers or unusual designs. Sheets may be bought at the linen outlets for as little as $4. (A twin-size flat sheet will make one costume. The “pattern” shown is for a twin-size or for bought fabric.) Hancocks and Wal-Mart also have some good deals on their sale tables. Sometimes the Samaritan Center or other thrift stores have material. Old tablecloths and curtains also work.

The Marketplace needs people to set up shop and “sell” their wares. While the church has some props to loan out, it is our hope that you will take ownership of a booth and begin gathering your own props that you can use from year to year.

Sign up sheets will be avail-able at the worship services on February 25, as well as an information booth in the Atrium. This year’s SonRise is April 7. g
