New Sermon Series ‘Samson’ Begins April 7Think you’re strong? Even our best intentions can falter when we face temptation and distraction. Join us for “Samson” a new sermon series beginning on April 7th. This sermon series is especially for the men in the congregation (though the women will like it too) as we look at what God’s Word says about standing strong against the forces of darkness that want to take us out.Samson’s accomplishments are legendary and so are his weaknesses. He was a man that had incredible God-given potential but also made bad decisions. His story is recorded in the Book of Judges, Chapters 13-16. Many people are familiar with the story of Samson but we want to provide you with an in-depth look at his life. Through this series we’ll be looking at our own strengths and weaknesses with a focus on Christ who forgives our failures and makes us strong.

Spring Food DriveMark Sunday, April 28, on your calendar. This is
the date for our next Trinity Food Drive. Last fall was a huge success, perhaps the most generous of all food drives. Therefore, the bar has been raised, let’s rise with it. Together we can make this Spring Food Drive even better. Remember to bring nonperishable food, diapers and baby items, and money, all of which will go directly to our neighbors in critical need. Look for the reminders in the service folder and on the digital signage. We look forward to working with you doing God’s work. Call Tana Bell at 713.540.2812 with any questions.

Cracking the Egg CodeHave you ever wondered what those terms on egg-carton labels
mean? I must admit I only check for size, price, and expiration date. I haven’t even noticed some of the terms, so I found this glossary interesting and I’m going to check this out the next time I buy eggs (which isn’t very often).
1. Free-range or cage-free: Free-range means hens have daily access to the outdoors or are raised outdoors. Cage-free hens aren’t kept in cages, but rather are allowed to roam free in large barns or yards.
2. Omega-3: Hens were given feed that included items like flax, marine algae, or fish oils to boost omega-3 fatty acid levels in their eggs.
3. Organic: Hens had minimal exposure to antibiotics, commercial fertilizers, fungicides, growth hormones, herbicides, and pesticides. Eggs with the “USD organic” seal follow production guidelines set by the USDA National Organic Program. Because it costs more to produce eggs that way, they are usually more expensive than conventional eggs.
4. Pasteurized: Eggs were heated to destroy bacteria. After pasteurizing, the eggs were covered in a food-grade wax to prevent absorption of cross-contaminants. If you’re worried about using raw eggs in a recipe, you might consider these.
5. Vegetarian: Hens were only given all-grain feed with no animal by-products or food scraps.

Stephen Ministers’ AdventuresDuring the 50 hours of initial training and the bi-monthly continuing education, Stephen Ministers develop and hone
their skills to work with individuals experiencing grief, loss, and change; to walk alongside them and offer Christian support and care. But one of the most amazing things about Stephen Ministry is the incredible bond that develops amongst the Stephen Ministers themselves! Here are a few photos to chronicle our recent adventures!
What a privilege to serve alongside such a dedicated group! Like the idea of developing deep and enriching bonds with others at Trinity while serving the Lord? Want to know more about this awesome ministry? Contact Pastor Leeland or any of the individuals wearing blue badges on Sunday mornings. We’d be glad to sit down and tell you about our ministry!

The newest members of the Stephen Ministry family at Trinity: Steve Bell, Joanne Husser (Stephen Leader), George Sacaris, Kevin Juergen, Nita Juergen, Betty Berg, Kathy Krueger and Sandy Moreno-Lucio (not pictured, Rick Berg).
One way the Stephen Leaders encourage and uplift all the Stephen Ministers is through the blessings basket pictured below. On cards, the Stephen Leaders write Bible verses, thoughts and sentiments about each of the Stephen Ministers to encourage us - talk about uplifting!

Thanks, Thrivent, for underwriting the cost of the food for the commissioning luncheon!
On February 27th, Stephen Ministers worked together to serve a delicious potato soup for one of the dinners preceding the Lenten services.
Budding Artist at KrauseJustin is a resident of the Lutheran Social Services of the South (LSS) Krause
Children’s Center in Katy. He’s a bit shy and initially kept very much to himself. At the Trinity Charter School on campus he discovered an entirely new talent - ART! He’d never picked up a paint brush before and now you can’t get him to put one down. His gift is a natural one, and his delight and confidence from this new passion are a wonder to see. Once Justin found his new identity as an artist, he began gaining respect and admiration from his peers. He’s become a leader, helping others with their art projects, and his healing process has progressed significantly in a short period of time. We are so proud of him!

Trinity Adult Studies for AprilDaniel • Dave Weinhold • Room 205 • Sunday • 9:30 a.m. (10/15 - 05/26)
The story of Daniel reminds us individually and collectively to Hold fast. Stay faithful. God will triumph. After all, He is God, and He directs the course of human events for His faithful. Daniel’s is another great example of how God works to deliver us from evil and return us to close relationship with Him through Christ.
Have a New Family by Friday • Christina Putman • Room 214 • Sunday • 9:30 a.m. (02/24 - 04/21)Now that we’ve got the kids straightened out (Have a New Kid by Friday) it’s time to renovate the whole family. Built around solid Biblical principles, this video study by Dr Kevin Leman provides sound, practical advice on creating a happy family. If you think your family isn’t quite all it could be, this class is for you – lots of discussion, compassion and prayer – just what families need.Christina Putman and a team of experts will lead this class dedicated to Raising Our Christian Kids. All parents are invited.
Christian Character • Jim Cleary • Room 211 • Sunday • 9:30 a.m. (04/07 - 05/12)We desire to reflect Christ in our lives, but the only way to show the character of Christ is to be transformed by the Spirit. Constant prayer, daily Bible study, meaningful stewardship, faithful service – these are all characteristics of disciples. Come join us as we journey into a closer relationship with Jesus.
Change Your Words, Change Your Life • Krystle Marcis • Room 232 • Sunday • 9:30 a.m. (04/07 - 06/16)St John begins the gospel by saying “In the beginning was the Word… and the Word was God.” Change Your Words, Change Your Life is built around the powerful Word of God and examines how we use words to convey thoughts and emotions and to promote His joy, His power and His peace. Topics include How to be Happy, Speaking Faith and Not Fear, The importance of keeping your word, The power of speaking God’s word.
The Ministries of Elijah and Elisha • Craig Chancellor • Room 206 • Sunday • 9:30 a.m. (11/18 - 05/26)Elijah and Elisha – these two Old Testament prophets worked many miracles and pointed the way for the coming of the Christ. Their stories are recorded in the books of 1 and 2 Kings. Elisha succeeded Elijah and asked for “a double portion” of his spirit. Elisha also went on to perform twice as many miracles as Elijah and his ministry was twice as long – just what you’d expect from a God who hears and answers prayer.
Why Pray • Bill Fischer • Chapel • Sunday • 9:30 a.m. (03/24 - 04/21)Abraham prayed; Moses prayed; Joshua prayed; David prayed; Jesus prayed constantly (over 40 of His prayers are recorded in the New Testament.) Paul admonishes us to “pray without ceasing.” Clearly prayer is a topic worthy of our attention. The Chapel class will study this foundational topic using a variety of classic resources including, of course, His Holy Word. Come join.Bill Fischer leads this class which always starts with the joyful singing of a few hymns.
Tuesday Morning Women’s Bible Study - Overview of the Bible • Audrey Black • Room 205 • 10:00 a.m. (01/08 - 05/28) The Tuesday Morning Women’s Bible Study group is studying an Overview of the Bible, a study that will build our faith through a better understanding of the accuracy and reliability of Scripture. We’ll see how Jesus Christ is always in the center of the Bible, how God preserves His holy and true Word, and how He brings the gospel to us in a magnificent and inspired way. Through all this, we’ll get to know Jesus better.
Genesis • Mary Oliver • Room 205 • Wednesday • 6:30 p.m. (04/03 - 05/29) The Wednesday Women’s Bible Study class goes back to the beginning as we continue our study of the book of Genesis. This is a great study of one of the foundation books of the Old Testament. There are still a few spaces around the table. Maybe one of them is just for you.
Sonrise Bible Study - Pastor Black • Room 121 • Thursday • 6:30 a.m. (ongoing)“The New Testament lies hidden in the Old, and the Old Testament is unveiled in the New.” These words of St. Augustine reveal part of the purpose of this early morning Bible study group – to study how the Old and New Testaments fit together. Prayers and Promises by Pastor David Leeland
Happy Easter! Christ is risen! He is risen, indeed! Alleluia!Romans 6:9-10 tells us that our Lord Jesus Christ is indestructible now that He is risen from the dead because death no
longer has any hold on Him. By His resurrection, Jesus broke the chains of death and turned the dead end of death into a door to heaven. Praise the LORD!
Listen with your hearts as you read Paul’s words:9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death He died He died to sin, once for all, but the life He lives He lives to God. [ESV]
The writer of Hebrews comments on the significance of Christ’s resurrection when he speaks of Jesus as our High Priest in heaven [7:24-25]:
24 … He holds His priesthood permanently, because He continues forever. 25 Consequently, He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. [ESV]
Jesus is able to save us to the uttermost because He is risen from the dead and lives forever! Let us take great comfort in these words and great encouragement!
What sin have you done that Jesus did not die for? What part of you and your life did Jesus not redeem when He died for you and rose to give you life? What part of your very being was not claimed by God and washed in the waters of your baptism that the Holy Spirit is not present in and working His sanctifying work? Is there anything about you or any particle of your being that’s not under the Lordship of your Savior?
The answer is, “None. He owns all of me.” Jesus died for every sin. Jesus redeemed every part. God claimed the whole you. The Holy Spirit is constantly and continuously working His sanctifying work. And every particle of your being is under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
Our trouble is that we are not yet perfect as Christ is perfect. We do not yet love the Lord our God with all our hearts and with all our souls and with all our strength and with all our minds, and we do not yet love each other as ourselves [Matthew 22:37-40; Luke 10:27]. God is not finished with us yet. His sanctifying work goes on. His redeeming, restoring, renewing and reconciling work never quits this side of heaven so that when He raises us up from the dead, He will transform us and we will be completely and totally and perfectly His forever in His new heavens and earth [1 Corinthians 15:51-58].
May the grace, love, forgiveness and resurrection power of our Lord Jesus Christ give us such hearts and minds for others to be a blessing to them and to love them in Jesus. May we treat each other this way seeking the way of Christ and the new life we have together in Christ because He lives.
And especially, may every husband so love his wife with the grace and tenderness of our Savior, and may every wife love her husband in this same way. Amen.
Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

A History Lesson, Part 1In 1831, the Mexican government granted 4,428 acres of land to Kesiah Crier in south
central Texas. Crier’s family and the James Lyons family were the first white settlers in the area. The town of Schulenburg developed from two nearby communities: Lyons, founded in 1842, and High Hill, settled in 1842 and later named in 1858. According to Henry Wolf of the Victoria Advocate, this was also the site of Neil McKinnon’s store and on the cotton trail between the Confederacy and Mexico. In 1873, the Galveston, Harris and San Antonio Railroad bought land in the area and built a depot on the portion formerly owned by Louis Schulenburg, naming it after him. The first train arrived on New Year’s Eve of 1873.
In the latter part of the century, and into the very beginning of the 20th century, immigrants from Germany, Austria, and Czechoslovakia arrived in Galveston after a long voyage across the Atlantic, and then settled in the area, bringing with them their strong faith—primarily Catholic and Lutheran. As they struggled to establish their farms and businesses, they built simple country churches—arched Gothic Revival windows, facades clad in white frame siding or in stone, lone steeples rising up into the Texas sky. But cross the thresholds, and you are transported back in time to the majesty of European cathedrals, and the mother tongues of these early settlers.
Curious about the rest of the story? Join the PEP Club on Saturday, April 27, as we visit the painted churches around Schulenburg. We’ll leave Trinity at 8 a.m. and return at 4 p.m. The tour will break for lunch buffet at Oakridge Smokehouse. Cost is approximately $12 per person plus your lunch meal. Please RSVP to Bea Uhl (713.864.4919) or Cynthia Roney ([email protected] or 281.460.4263).

Thanks! In Acts 2:46, Luke describes the Fellowship of Believers as a group that
• continued to meet together • continued with one mind (NASB)• devoted themselves to meet together (HCSB)• of one accord (YLT)
He went on to tell how the Fellowship ate together • with great joy and generosity (NLT)• with glad and generous hearts (ESV)• with joyful and humble attitude (HCSB)• with gladness and singleness of heart (KJV)These descriptions were certainly echoed during our Lenten Suppers as our Trinity Family gathered together on
Wednesday nights for food and fellowship. A special thanks to all the groups who prepared and served meals that strengthened us all in faith and community: Trinity Women’s Club, Trinity Youth, Stephen Ministry, Trinity Crochet Group, TnT and the RightTrak Missional Community, and the Trinity Ladies Circle.
