Message from Chairman
Dr. N. R. ALAMELU
Esteemed Members,
Greetings,
I feel very happy that the student branches in all the institutions are becoming more active and
dynamic. The number of proposals requesting for the technical and financial support of IEEE for
conducting National and International conferences are also on the increase. IEEE as an
international professional body would be very happy to support all such focused initiatives.
However I only would like to submit the request to the organizers of such conferences to be quite
sure about the quality of the papers in terms of the originality of the contents. This I am writing
with a heavy heart that we do come across a few occasional instances of plagiarism.
I would request all the organizers to meticulously scrutinize to ensure quality of the papers
accepted and presented in such conferences to have technical conferences in its true spirit. This
intern will definitely improve the research culture with all the stakeholders and IEEE as a
professional body will always strive towards excellence in all these activities.
I congratulate the organizers of such conferences and request good number of members to attend
these conferences as delegates and as authors for better learning and exposure.
BEST WISHES
Your Affectionate Office Bearer

I am happy to write editorial for the October issue. I have received some complaints about the
publication of activities. The probelm with the publication of activities is the limited space.
The file contains photographs and it occupies more memory. Some branches are sending
activities conducted from the beginning of the year. It is very difficult to include all the activities
in a single issue. However I taking all efforts to publish all the actvities reported. I have
decided to publish the activities conducted in the month of the issue. If the activities are
reported after the current month, the activities will be published depending on the space
available. I request all the members to report the actibity conduced within the month of
conduction. Any complaint regarding the publication will be entertained and the individual reply
will be given to the sender within a reasonale time. This month issue is divided into two parts
and published.

pills. She told that Microelectronic pills are sensors with multiple channels that use micro
technology. These are used in biomedical applications to detect issues in the GI tract. She
also added that it is used for real time measurement parameters such as temperature, pH,
conductivity and dissolved oxygen. The meeting ended with the vote of thanks by Ms.
Amanda Geroge Pierara, Vice secretary IEEE WIE AG.
Technical Gathering on 16th Sep 2014
The meeting began with the Code of Ethics by Ms.Tania of II IT. Our WIE AG Secretary
Ms.Drishya welcomed the gathering. The meeting was presided by Ms.Jenisha of IV EEE. She
enlightened the IEEE members concerning the profit gained from hard work and good behaviors.
After which, a technical presentation was given by Beautlin Jenisha of II EEE. She gave a complete
view about the evolution of 5G. Our WIE AG Vice-Chairperson Ms.Rudolf Malar Sowmiya
notified the last date for Richard E Merwin scholarship. Finally, the Vote of Thanks was given by
Mr.Adarsh Nair of II EEE.
Technical Gathering on 23rd Sep 2014
The meeting started with the code of ethics by Ms.Vincy Sariga A Vincent of III-IT.
Ms.Mary Femina, Vice secartary of our IEEE SB welcomed the gathering. Ms.Drishya
Thampy, the President of the day gave an inspirational talk of how a person can achieve
goal if he has a strong determination and desire. She ended her talk by telling the famous
quote “A goal is not always meant to be reached, often it serves simply as something to aim
at”. The technical talk was given by Ms.Sheena.A of II-EEE who gave a talk about Solar
Tracker. She told that Solar Tracker is a device that orient a payload towards the sun.
Payload can be photovoltaic panels, reflectors, lenses or other optical devices. The meeting
ended with the vote of thanks by Ms.Annlin Shebi.S.L of final ECE.
Technical Gathering on 30th Sep 2014
The meeting was initiated with the Code of Ethics by Ms.Aditya of II EEE. Blessie Jannat
of III CSE welcomed the gathering. The meeting was presided over by Ms.Sujila of IV ECE. She
expressed her views on communication skills and its importance while facing an Interview. IEEE
SB Vice-chairperson Ms.I.Agnes Miriam informed the members about STEP’14 and IEEE Online
Communities. After which, a Technical quiz was conducted by Ms.Geethu Sree and Ms.Rudolf

IEEEXtreme is a global challenge in which teams of IEEE Student members
belonging to an IEEE Student Branch, advised and proctored by an IEEE member, compete
in a 24-hour time span against each other to solve a set of programming problems. We are
fortunate to have our IEEE Student Branch Counselor Prof .J. Bright Jose, WIE Faculty
Advisor Prof. A. Subitha and Coordinator Prof. A. Darwin Jose Raju, who motivated and
guided us to join IEEE Xtreme 8.0. The Cycle started weeks ago in an Office Bearers
meeting in which Mr. Vijeeth. V J, an Executive member of our Student Branch was given
in charge for the program. Asthe first part of the plan, he informed all the IEEE members
about IEEEXtreme Program along with its rules. He gave a clear view of the program in a
weekly meeting. Circulars were sent to every class about this competition, so that the IEEE
members who missed to attend the weekly meeting will be aware of it.11 teams from
various departments registered their names. Prof. A. Darwin Jose Raju and Prof. P. Lovelin
Auguskani proctored the teams. Prof. A. Subitha, the Faculty Advisor of IEEE WIE guided
us for organizing the program. Instructions were given to every team about the
arrangements. The ITLab of our college was arranged as the venue and every team was
asked to report at 5.00 am. Theprogram started on 18th October 2014 at 5.30 am when each
team logged in with their customized team name and password. Each team started
programming with great enthusiasm. When the first set of questions were unlocked, each
team was running high and low with their programming knowledge to find answers for the
problem given. The questions given were like a customer problem and we have to give
code for it just like how a professional may do. To give a clear view of the problem sample
inputs as well as outputs were given. 10 test cases were given for each problem to improve
the efficiency of the coding. Marks were allocated based on how the code satisfies each test
case. The Coordinator of the program Mr. Vijeeth V J arranged a video talk with Mr.
Prasanth Mohan, Public Lead, IEEEXtreme. He was happy to see our student members
working enthusiastically. He gave a key description of how he managed to join IEEE and
now how he has merged his career along with it. He also shared how he was able to get the
prestigious Richard E Merwin Scholarship while studying his second year. He gave an
account of the scholarships available in IEEE along with its benefits. He also added how an
IEEE member can use the opportunities available for them. After the video talk the
Correspondent of Our College, Rev. Fr.A.Jesu Marian gave us a surprise visit and
motivated us. We were eager to take a Group photo with him and with our IEEE SB
Coordinator, Prof. A. Darwin Jose Raju. Our IEEE Student Branch arranged dinner
for all participants. At around 12:00 in mid-night to increase the energy of all
participants our IEEE Student Branch planned to cut a cake named “We love IEEE”.
It was really surprising since nobody guessed a celebration at midnight. Each of us
enjoyed a lot. Finally the program ended around 5.30am on 19th October 2014. Reported by:DARSHINI DARWIN
