For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.” 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.” 8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” 9 He said, “Go and tell this people: “‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’ 10 Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.” Isaiah 6:1-10

CALLING ALL MEN

Calling all men who like to sing to be part of a Men’s Chorus for Baptist Men’s Day, January 31st. We will rehearse Wednesday, January 20 at 7:00 p.m. – 7:20 p.m., and January 27th 7:30 p.m. – 7:50 p.m. Come join us.

HOPEFUL IMAGINATION BACKGROUND Any successful and thriving church will be continuously evaluating its programs and ministries. What works well? Where else do we need to minister? Are there some things we need to discontinue? How can we do this better? Does this program or ministry fit who we are as a church? Our Deacons began a Visioning Process: Looking at where we are and want to be as a church while trying to answer some of the above questions. How can we at First Baptist be most effective as we worship, minister, and serve in Jesus’ name? We expanded this process in our Fall Wednesday night block to include our deacons and others who wanted to be a part of the steering committee and process as we seek to grow and shape our church to being the most effective church/people of God that we can possibly be! Very important: We are looking for persons who possess four qualities to help us in this endeavor. These are essential! We are looking for persons who are

1. Passionately positive about the church and its future. 2. Spiritually mature and believe that God is up to

something in our midst. 3. Strategically innovative and ready to risk. 4. Capable leaders able to inspire and motivate others to be

involved in transition and change. It is our hope and desire to involve the whole congregation in this process over the next year or so (or however long it takes) as we become the church and people of God that we need to be!

THANK YOUS

Thank you sincerely for all of the kind and thoughtful expressions of sympathy during the loss of my father. Christi Boothe The recent mission trip to Rhodell, West Virginia went very well. As coordinators for the Loaves and Fishes for West Virginia Ministry we want to thank our church family who contributed to the success of this trip. We provided 30 Christmas meals to the Rhodell community and 30 to Coal City. We were also blessed with enough toys for both communities. We thank you most for your prayers; may the Lord bless you for your support in whatever capacity. Mike Metz

FEBRUARY 20, 2016 YOUTH FUND RAISER AUCTION

We are getting ready for another SUPER auction to raise funds for the 2016 Youth Mission events! We are now taking donations (services from businesses, beach or mountain houses, antiques, etc.) Please note that all donations given this year can be a tax deduction for 2015.

SOUP KITCHEN COORDINATORS NEEDED Our Soup Kitchen ministry has been blessing the community for over twelve years. Our three Coordinators, who have been serving since the Soup Kitchen opened, are experiencing physical and health issues and are seeking volunteers to join the Coordinator Team. We have a great team of volunteers who faithfully help, however every team needs a “captain”. If you are missioned minded, have love and compassion for the less fortunate, please consider volunteering as a Coordinator and help us keep this much needed mission serving our community. Please contact Anesha Johnson at 919-631-2684 for more information.

PRESCHOOL AND CHILDREN’S TEACHER TRAINING

If you are a volunteer who works with our Preschoolers and children (up to 6th grade) in any of our learning ministries, we will be having a training session on Sunday, January 24 @ 4:00pm in Ryberg Hall. Please bring your calendars, ideas and enthusiasm with you. This is an important time to learn and share strategies to impact those we are teaching. If you have any questions or will not be able to attend, please contact Bryan Harris. I look forward to seeing you all there
