    acre site in northwest corner

     What is a PCB and how doesit affect me?

     What are PCBs?•  Very stable• Resistant to extreme

    temperatures and

    pressures• Oily liquids or solids• Clear or light yellow in

    color.• No smell or taste.• PCBs are present in every

    part of the world, and arepresent in high levels inmany industrializedareas.

     Where do PCBs come from?• Man-made• Used from 1930 to 1977• Used in:

    • Electrical transformers

    and capacitors• Hydraulic fluids, heat

    transfer fluids•  Plastics and lubricating

    oils

     • PCBs were banned for

    most uses because theydo not break down easilyand stay in theenvironment for a longtime.
