"Interdependent people combinetheir own efforts with the efforts of others

to achieve their greatest success."- Stephen Covey

Thanks to the Toastmaster program, the ability to communicate effec-tively and build self-confidence is friendly and affordable all aroundthe world. Toastmasters’ is all about providing a mutually supportiveand positive learning environment for all. The passion to be a contrib-utor is high amongst Toastmasters and the continuous learning oppor-tunities at every instance keeps us motivated to strive for higherbenchmark.

Toastmasters is about transforming lives. We grow better when we become passionate aboutsomething. Through the platform provided by the Toastmasters program I have grown anddeveloped myself in ways I had never imagined! I am sure all of you would have similarexperiences.

Knowledge is good when it is shared, it is best when shared with many. This is the guiding principlethat drives us to give 100% in spite of being a voluntary organization.

Craig Valentine, the World Champion of Public Speaking 1999, during the session at Ovation 2011gave an important lesson to aspiring leaders, “Average leaders place blame on others, exceptional leaders take it”. During Ovation 2011, I had the opportunity to interact with manygreat leaders including International Director Keith Ostergard, whose frank, down to earthapproach is unmatched. Nagaraja Rao is another such leader, under his guidance we have seenevery member aiming to achieve greatness together. Every time there was a roadblock he wouldstep in and help us move forward.

This year is a landmark year in the history of toastmasters, within a short span of becoming a districtwe have split! The growth of the movement was possible thanks to the team of supportive anddedicated toastmasters. It is sad that we would no longer be the unified district 82, but thecamaraderie and the passion would continue forever. With less than 30 days remaining for thecurrent term, we are all striving to be the Number 1 in the world once again. Let us give that finalpush to help District 82 become Number 1 in the world once again and make this amemorable year for each and every toastmaster of District 82.

We shall meet again one final time before we bid farewell formally…till then

Happy Toasting,

Dear Toastmasters,

Bill Clinton once remarked – “Behind us we can look back and see thegreat expanse of achievement; and before us we can see even greater, grander frontiers of possibility.”This is how I felt after attending Ovations 2011 at Mysore. The conferencebrought to limelight the inherent strengths of District 82 as well as theenormous potential waiting to be tapped. When I saw internationalluminaries like Craig Valentine, Dilip Abayasekara and Keith Ostergard onstage, sharing their experiences with us, I felt proud that such a young districtlike ours could attract such VIPs to our events. I had my dream come truewhen I was able to preside over a historic council meeting which created two new districts. I feltconfident about the future as we elected a new set of capable leaders to take this momentum forward. The speech contests were the icing on the cake. The caliber of each contestant was evident as speechafter speech was delivered with precision, poise and passion. The respondents at the table topicscontests were awesome. I felt a sense of satisfaction and pride when Craig pulled me aside andremarked – ‘Nagaraj, if you guys keep up this pace, you will soon produce a world champion!’The conference was not just about competing or leading. I think everyone of us who attended theeducational sessions learnt something new which we could take home. Personally for me, Dilip’ssession gave an insight about the meaning of what we do in toastmasters. Many of my friends foundimmense value in the various sessions they attended. The important question to ask ourselves is this‘What are we going to do with the new knowledge we gained at ovation? Are we going to apply thisin our daily life? Are we willing to be transformed?” As Goethe says “Knowing is not enough; we mustapply. Willing is not enough; we must do”.

The wonderful volunteers of the ovation organizing committee deserve all our appreciation andgratitude. They have raised the bar of expectation by pulling off such a fantastic event. Of course, the fun night gave us the opportunity to connect personally to each other and strengthen our bondsof friendship. This heady cocktail of fun, frolic and feisty entertainment will be etched in ourmemories for a long time to come. Those of you who missed this can make it up by attending theupcoming events – Reverberation in Mangalore and Resonance in Pune. After all the fun, it is time for some hard work! The countdown for the end of the term has begun. We have less than 3 weeks left to reach our goal of becoming the number one district in the world. We started well; we ran well and now it is time to finish the race. Do you remember the story of anathlete who ran the Olympics despite the injuries he had? When he crossed the finishing line, thespectators rose and applauded. Later, a reporter asked him the question on everyone’s mind: “Whydid you continue the race after you were so badly injured?” He replied, “My country did not sendme 7,000 miles to start the race. They sent me to finish it.” Toastmasters of India and Sri Lanka –your countries did not send you to start the race. They sent you to finish it.

Get your CC / AC. Get your new members/ new clubs.

Finish the race.

Wish you all the very best.

Some coffee beans in a farm grew together andended up in the same bag. They were very happyin the confines of the bag and it was the worldto them, nothing existed beyondit. In their innocence, they did notknow what sunshine or rain orwind meant, they did not carewhere they came from or wherethey would finally go, and theirarea of concern started and endedat the bag they were in - until thatfateful day.

That day someone opened the bag, took someof the beans out and spilled them around. Somebeans ended up in a small household and became

a beverage for a day, a few traveled all around the world and were served as coffee in a beautiful cup at a renowned restaurant, some

landed in a perfume shop to help people sniff different aromas, and others were taken at a farm and became the seeds to grow more beans like them.More such beans grew from them; more snuggled up in their cozy bag-cocoons, more bonding's were made amongst the beans - unaware,

carefree, rosy bindings – only to be broken again, only to be spilled again.
