Career & Life Planning Credit CoursesCareer and Life Planning courses teach students how to make effective career and life decisions. The courses also provide tools and techniques for successful career development and employment searches. UC, CSU transferable.

CareerandLifePlanning CRLP100orCOUN100This 3-unit course explores the issues and tasks related to personal and career development throughout one’s life. Students utilize the career planning process to begin preparations for work in the 21st century global economy.

IntroductiontoCareerPlanning CRLP101This 1-unit course provides an introduction to the career planning process. Students explore their own interests, values, skills and personality preferences and how to relate them to career options. CSU transferable.

JobSearchStrategies CRLP102This .5-unit course provides students with an introduction to the job search process. The course focuses on building the skills and strategies needed to execute a comprehensive and successful job search plan.

JobSuccessSkills CRLP103This .5-unit course introduces students to the development of job success skills. Students gain knowledge of the skills, attributes and personal characteristics required for success in today’s workplace.

Services & WorkshopsCareerCounselingCareer counseling can help students decide which major or career they wish to pursue. MiraCosta offers a variety of assessments that assist students with identifying their interests, personality styles, skills and values.

CareerFairsThe Center for Career Studies & Services hosts several career information and employment events. Without leaving campus, students meet with working professionals from a number of fields and employers seeking to hire MiraCosta students and graduates.

CareerServicesandWorkshopsMiraCosta College offers a number of other services including workshops such as:

• Undecided majors

• Writing resumes and cover letters

• Job search hour

• Interviewing techniques

• Resume review

ComputerResourceLabandResearchAssistanceStudents come to the Career Center for assistance with a variety of career-related needs, from student employment to career resources. The lab provides students with computers and offers an extensive book collection, video and periodical inventory, career development software programs and Internet access.

FirstImpressionsFirst Impressions is a program designed to provide MiraCosta students with career clothing, free of charge, for job interviews and job success.

The mission of the Center for Career Studies and Services is to empower students to make informed, intentional career decisions. Students can take advantage of credit classes, employment opportunities, career assessments and counseling, workshops, research assistance and more!

Cooperative (Co-op) Work Experience & Internship StudiesMiraCosta College offers students the opportunity to gain experience in the workplace while earning college credit. Career Center staff can help students determine which program will best meet their individual needs.

CooperativeWorkExperienceEducationCooperative Work Experience Education combines work experience with college instruction. This program provides students with new, expanded and practical learning opportunities on the job so they may achieve the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for career success. Cooperative work experience courses are offered in all career and technical education majors (Course #299), and as general work experience (WKEX 233) for undecided students.

InternshipStudiesInternship Studies is designed to provide students with workplace skills and experience by linking classroom learning to the work world. The program helps students develop mentor relationships and adds significant experience to students’ resumes. Internship Studies is offered in nearly all disciplines (course #292).
