This boy want to be a veterinarian. He needs to earn high school diploma so he can go to college, but he wanted to know how else to help make his dream come true. He wrote to the dean of a veterinary college. The dean suggested that he volunteer at an animal shelter. The boy can work on behalf of animals that people have rejected, or given away. The people at the shelter thought the boy was a good candidate for the job. At first, the job seemed absurd. The boy cleaned out cages and chased after animals. But then he met a special, obedient dog. The boy hovered protectively over his little friend when it was sick. Now, whenever the boy is around, the dog seems delirious with joy. The boy is glad to work at the shelter.
