Pablo provided this scene as a sample coloured frame when we first chose him. The
worksheet shows a scene similar to the first frame of the story: the discovery of Dex’s egg
in the garden. The artist may reuse the same scene, with the following amends:
1 Dex and the ball in the scene are in black and white line. The rest of the scene is in full
colour. Dex has bold, black and white lines for the children to colour in.
2 Update the appearance of mummy and daddy.
3 Ensure the appearance of all other main characters (Meg, Charlie and Buddy) are an
exact match to Level 1 and 2
4 Garden scene to be exactly the same house garden as the garden that appears in L1
and 2.
Rest of scene summarised here: The focus of the page in the centre is a very happy
looking Dex sitting in his cracked egg waving to the Meg and Charlie. The other half of
the egg is to the side. The egg has matching spots, like Dex’s tummy. It is a pale blue
eggshell colour. We can see his upper body and his tail draped over the side of the egg.
The family are surrounding him on both sides, looking on: the children look surprised and
delighted and the parents look pleased and shocked. Buddy looks happy and his ear
is still pricked up, he is covered in a bit of mud from digging the egg out. We can see a
large black and white key-lined ball in the flower bed in the foreground (large enough for
children to be able to colour in).
