figurative language

• words used in an imaginative way to express ideas that are not literally true

metaphor

• comparison of two things that are unlike but have some qualities in common; does not use “like or as”

short story

• A work of fiction that presents a sequence of events or plot that deals with a conflict

• Any number of people, animals or objects in a novel, movie or play
