Gustar is such a fun verb! For now, you are learning 2 singular forms and 2 plural forms. It’s really easy…
• Me gusta- I like… (one thing)• ¿Te gusta?- Do you like…? (one thing)• Me gustan- I like… (more than one thing) • ¿Te gustan?- Do you like...? (more than one thing)
It literally translates to: “it is pleasing to me” or “they are pleasing to me”…but that sounds weird so we switch it to the word “like”.
GUSTAR
Práctica
• I like ducks.• I like the cat.• Do you like math class?• Do you like school?• I like brown dogs.• Do you like pretty girls?• I like to talk.

Vocabulario/Apuntes #27conjugating –ar verbs
If you look up a verb in the Spanish dictionary, the form you will find is called the infinitive. In English, the infinitive has the word “to” in front of the verb. In Spanish, the infinitive always ends in -ar, -er, or –ir.
Ser, which you’ve already learned is called an irregular verb. No other verb is like it. But many Spanish verbs are regular, that is, they follow a pattern.
Steps to conjugating a verb…
1) Identify the verb. (Is it an –ar, -er, or –ir verb?)2) Remove the –ar, -er, or –ir3) Identify the subject. (Who is doing the action?)4) Add the correct ending.

La tienda de ropa y la papelería
Eventually we will be doing an activity where we buy and sell different things and barter with prices (a valuable tool in the Spanish-speaking world). In this activity, create clothes or school supplies from the materials given to you and make sure you save them for a later date. Each person should be making their own set of things, so this is not a group activity. Be creative and make your stuff look nice… I mean people are going to be “buying” it. Make at least five items and include the prices in pesos.

Cultura
Cultura- Hacer trueques • Knowing how to bargain for goods when you’re shopping
at a traditional Spanish market can help you get the best merchandise at the best price. Bargaining, or haggling, is a negotiation tactic that many people are unaccustomed to.
• If you shop in traditional Spanish markets, you should get there early. Many merchants feel that they must make a first sale to kick off their day. If you find yourself in such a situation, you may notice that the merchant doesn’t want you to leave without buying something and is therefore more willing to reduce the price to make a sale, and you can end up with a bargain.
• Learning good bargaining tactics means you should never have to pay full price for anything.
