Valentine’s Day has always been

one of my favorite holidays be-

exactly 1 week before.

Another reason Valentine’s Day is one of my

favorite holidays is because I like to think of

myself as compassionate and dramatic and

when the day which is all about love is here

you get to be both.

After all, the main thing Valentine’s Day

means to me…… is a time to spread LOVE!

Original Valentine’s

Day Poems Inside ~

A poem by: Thea Reagan

Love from the letters you write.

The songs you sing that make my world

bright.

You are my valentine.

Time is spent with nothing to regret.

Memories of ours I will not forget.

You are my valentine.

Trust and loyalty, we are friends beyond com-

pare.

And with all my heart I really care.

You are my valentine.

Although we may part for just a second,

I know we will always be connected.

You are my valentine.

Dear Susie,

I need help talking to a boy because I have a crush on that

boy and I don’t know how to talk to him.

Sincerely,

Lady Bug SOS

Dear Lady Bug SOS,

Don’t think about it too much. You start to stress yourself

out if you think about it too much. Just before you go to talk to

him take a deep breath.

Sincerely, Susie

Dear Susie,

I need a bae to buy me a huge teddy bear and box of

chocolates for Valentine’s Day. Any tips…… I’m desperate…

Sincerely,

Bae-less

Dear Bae-less,

You shouldn’t really depend on a man to make you happy

because they won’t always be there for you. Buy those things

for yourself because you deserve it!

Sincerely, Susie

Dear Susie,

There’s this girl and she’s kind of mean to me. She’s nice to eve-

ryone else except me. I don’t know why! What should I do?

Sincerely,

Completely Confused

Dear completely confused,

Maybe there was something you did to make her mad. Just try

to pull her aside and ask her if you did anything wrong and if you

did ask her what you did and what you can do to fix it.

Sincerely, Susie

Dear Susie,

I’m having girl trouble! I need help/advice!

Sincerely,

Dude

Dear Dude,

Well, I don’t know what type of trouble you are having but here

are some suggestions. If she doesn’t like you, give her some space.

Time will be the best option. If you want to ask her out, do it in a

cute or romantic way so she will definitely say yes. If you want to

know if she likes you ask her when she isn’t with her friends. She

might get embarrassed to be put on the spot in front of her friends.

Sincerely, Susie

Superbowl

by Justin Palato

The superbowl took

place on the first Sun-

day in February, at

6:30 PM at the Univer-

sity of Phoenix Stadium

in Glendale, Arizona. I

personally thought the

Seahawks had the best

chance to win the su-

perbowl. I also figured

that they would play

the Patriots. The odds

were:

Seahawks 5/4

Packers 8/5

Patriots 5/1

Colts 8/1

The Seattle Seahawks

won the 2014 Super

Bowl in New York City.

The Seahawks earned

their 1st Super Bowl

championship by de-

went on an explosive rant silencing all of the

doubters.

The Patriots blew out the Indianapolis colts

45-7.

The New England Patriots won the

49th

Superbowl 28-24, the game came

down to the last 30 seconds on the one yard

line. The Seahawks had the ball and instead

of going with the obvious choice of running

the ball with Marshawn Lynch they decided

to throw the ball, the Patriots picked the ball

off and won the game. At the end of the

game there was a small fight started by the

Seahawks. This Superbowl win marks Tom

Brady’s fifth Superbowl win.

feating the Denver Broncos

with a score of 43-8 in what

will be remembered as the

most lopsided Super Bowl

to date.

The Seattle Seahawks and

New England Patriots won

the playoffs to go to the

superbowl. It’s nice to be

right! The Seahawks came

back from a 16-0 deficit at

half time and won that

game 22-28. After the Seat-

tle Seahawks incredible

comeback victory against

the Green Bay Packers the

Seahawks were under-

standably emotional. Rus-

sell Wilson was in tears after

the game, Michael Bennett

borrowed a police officer’s

bike and started riding it

around the field, and then

Doug Baldwin took a play

out of teammate Richard

Sherman’s book when he

give them a little present in Feb-

ruary, especially one you can

make indoors. One traditional DIY

I love to do is this heart key ring

made of felt, yarn, and cotton.

The thread is optional if you want

to put a little saying or a friend/

family’s name on there. This heart

example doesn’t have a saying on

it but you can put one on it before

sewing the two pieces of heart

shaped felt together.

By Mrs. Meeks

February is my favorite month to go

cross country skiing. Usually by February

there is a good base and if we get a fresh

dusting of powder the skiing is superb. Of-

ten the weather is sunny too so you can ski

without too many layers and get a tan while

you ski.

If you can’t get away to go skiing there are

a lot of hiking trails in our area. With a

temperate climate and our hills green from

the rain now is a great time to hit the trails.

Ask Mrs. Fabing in the office about trails.

She and Ms. Roth have both spent time on

trails in the Lompoc area.

Outfit Ideas for Valentine’s Day!

By; Haylee Young

Are you stressing about

what to wear on Valen-

tine’s Day? Trying to look

good for that special

someone? Well here are

some outfit ideas.

Hearts: Try to find something that has a heart

on it. But don’t overdo it with the hearts.

Skirts: If you are planning to wear a skirt, wear a

red one or maybe even black.

Pants: Try to get light colored jeans or red pants.

Shoes: Flats are nice or, if you don’t like flats, wear

black or red converse or vans.

Hair: Curl it if you want to look fancy.

Makeup: Don’t overdo it on the makeup. Maybe

some mascara and lip gloss.

Things I Like to do Indoors in February By: Brenda Oseguera

A lot of people like to spend

February with friends and going

out shopping. Personally, I like

making crafts with my family

because it is cold out. One of my

personal crafts is making a heart

shaped photo collage in my

room. I like putting this up in

the beginning of February and

keeping it up all year.

Also you can never leave your

friends out in the cold. I like to

February Holidays—Two Too Many?

By: Alexandria Toalston

What’s my opinion on the back to

back Mondays off? I think that the two

Mondays off aren’t needed. On Febru-

ary 9th, we celebrate Abraham Lin-

coln’s Birthday, and on the 16th, we

celebrate President’s Day. Personally,

as a student, I think extra days off are

amazing. I mean, who wouldn’t want

extra days off from school? But, I don’t

see why we need these days off, espe-

I was living a FAIRYTALE.

I LOVED my prince charming.

But his frequent DEPARTURE was very alarming.

He sealed it with a KISS for all that he had missed.

Although I was second guessing myself he said, don’t be worried. I love you and may

it always be TRUE.

Then the next day I saw him with MISS I LOVE YOU.

Her smile, her dimples, how could he resist?

Well, now that he hasn’t, he will now be forever dismissed.

My heart broken and shattered. I knew to him I never mattered.

It’s okay. I can survive I will even thrive.

utes.

While the muffins are cooling,

make the cinnamon-sugar top-

ping. Melt the butter for about

30 seconds in the microwave.

Stir and stick back in microwave

if not fully melted. In a separate

small bowl, stir together the

sugar and cinnamon. Dip the

top of each muffin into the

melted butter and dip into the

cinnamon-sugar mixture. Swirl

them around in the cinnamon-

sugar a bit to make sure you get

a thick coating. Set upright on

cooling rack.

Muffins stay fresh in an airtight

container up to 1 week. Muffins

freeze well for up to 3 months.

Preheat oven to 425F. Spray

muffin pan with cooking spray

and set aside. In a large bowl of

an electric or stand mixer,

cream butter and sugar together

on medium speed.

Mix in the egg, vanilla extract,

and milk. Gently stir in flour,

baking powder, cinnamon, nut-

meg, and salt. Do not over mix -

stir until *just* combined.

Spoon 1 heaping Tablespoon of

batter into muffin cavity. Layer

with 1 teaspoon Nutella in the

center and spoon another heap-

ing Tablespoon of batter on top.

If the muffin tins are completely

full, that is ok. They will not

overflow. Repeat layering batter

and Nutella into each muffin tin.

I got exactly 8 muffins. Fill the

empty muffin tins halfway with

water for even baking.

Bake at 425F for 5 minutes.

Keeping the muffins in the oven,

reduce temperature to 350F and

bake for an additional 13-17

minutes until batter is set. Allow

muffins to cool for about 5 min-

Directions:

1) In an electric mixer, beat the cream

cheese and the powdered sugar until

combined.

Add vanilla and beat for 2 minutes.

Gently fold in whipped topping.

2) Transfer mixture into pie crust. Top

the filling with the cherry pie filling.

Refrigerate for at least one hour be-

fore serving.

Tip: You can use a different flavor of

pie crust to fit your tastes.

(For example, you can use an Oreo

pre-made crust.)

What is Valentine’s Day?

By: Arielle Champion

What’s so important about February

14th ? Valentine’s Day is the day many

people exchange cards, candy, gifts, or

flowers with that special someone. Do

you ever wonder how it all started?

This day of love & romance we call

Valentine’s Day is named for a Chris-

tian martyr & goes all the way back to

the 5th century. Today, more than 62%

of Americans celebrate this holiday,

but Americans aren’t the only people

who celebrate it.

People in countries all over the world

show their love to their special someone

on this day in many different ways. The

most popular is going out to dinner &

spending the evening together, enjoying

each other’s presence. Although Valen-

tine’s is a celebration day, it’s not an

official holiday. Government offices,

stores, schools, & other organizations

are still open as usual. Public transit sys-

tems run on their regular schedules also.

Many restaurants are busier than usual &

have special offers for Valentine’s Day. It

is also a popular date for weddings &

engagements. How are you going to

spend this day?

Mrs. Dunlop, VMS Librarian

By: Kylianne McGuire

Hey, VMS! Have you noticed our new librarian yet? If not, here’s your chance to

catch up with everything! Our new librarian, Mrs. Dunlop, came here after the retire-

ment of Mrs. Rudd. But did you know she was here long before Mrs. Rudd arrived? Mrs.

Dunlop worked here from 1996 to 2008. That was until Mrs. Rudd took over and Mrs.

Dunlop went to work at La Cañada. “Which school do you like better?” I asked. “This

one by a mile,” was her response. Mrs. Dunlop likes the books here better as well as the

size of our library. The library there was small and there wasn’t anywhere for the kids to

sit. For the students, it would be cramped and uncomfortable, especially for the bigger

kids.

Ever notice the new dragons swooping around in the library? They were here before

Mrs. Rudd arrived and traveled along with Mrs. Dunlop to La Cañada! “The kids there

were afraid of them, especially the Kindergarteners,” she told me. “They got used to

them after awhile.”
