About the National Survey of Children's Health

• The National Survey of Children’s Health (NSCH) is a rich source of national and state-level information about children and families, and represents an important resource for researchers, policymakers, advocates, and families for understanding the broad landscape of child well-being in the United States.

• The United States Census Bureau, Associate Director for Demographic Programs on behalf of the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) conducted the 2017 NSCH. The methodology reports for the 2017 and 2016 NSCH are available here.

• For the purpose of this presentation, we used the 2016-2017 NSCH dataset that is publicly available on the website of Data Resource Center for Child & Adolescent Health. Then we visualized key data points about ADD/ADHD and autism/ASD from the Emotional and Mental Health section. Also, we selected additional indicators about mental health care from the Health Care Access and Quality section.
