• In 2000 global sales of CD albums peaked at 2.455 billion

Introduction of the MP3

• Technology developed by Fraunhofer Gesellschaft in the 90’s

• 1999 MP3 players began to sold on the market

• Benefit was that 12 times the data was now able to be stored without losing sound quality

• This saw the decrease in sales of CD’s and the take off of sales of MP3 players
