Attic Ventilation 4/4
• Soffit Vent
Backhoe
• Cat Backhoe with a 24” bucket. Backhoe shown is holding a spare bucket clamped in the arm for security.
Batter Boards
• Batter boards are used as tools to layout and square up the location of the future slab. This picture shows batter boards during initial site prep to locate the future slab.
Brick Arches 1/4
• An example of a Tudor and Roman hybrid arch. It is a hybrid due to the Tudor style with the enlarged keystone common to the Roman Style.
Brick Arches 2/4
• An example of a Roman style Arch.
Brick Arches 3/4
• A Keystone parabolic arch.
Brick Arches 4/4
• Centering is temporary support bracing used to support the arch until the mortar has set and the arch can support its own weight.
Brick Bonds 1/7
• Standard Stretcher bond.
Brick Bonds 2/7
• Flemish bond a pattern where bricks alternate between headers and stretchers.

Brick Sizes 2/2
• Standard Brick• 3 1/2”x 8” x 2 1/4”
Bulldozer
• Shown here is a Cat D3 dozer. It is used to push dirt and other material for grading during site prep and also for spreading of material. A dozer can also be used for clearing a path through brush and small woods by plowing through.
Cladding 1/5
• Brick Cladding
Cladding 2/5
• EIFS Cladding or Stucco

Cladding 5/5
• Wood Shake Cladding
Code Requirements
• 27”w x 29”H• Sill 20” AFF• Minimum Code Req.• 20”w x 24”H• Sill <= 44” AFF• 5.7 Sqft min area• Yes this window
meets code.
Concrete Joints 1/2
• Expansion Joint• An expansion joint is
used in concrete slabs to allow for the expansion of the concrete during the heat of the summer months. Without these joints the concrete pushes against itself and fractures.
Concrete Joints 2/2
• Isolation Joint• A joint used to
isolate the column from the slab due to the columns deeper footing.
Concrete Masonry Unit
• Concrete masonry units (CMU) are used as structural members to build walls. The typical dimension of cmu is 8”Hx16”Wx8”D.
Decorative CMU
• Split face block is one of two types of decorative CMU.
Doors 1/3
• Flush Door
Doors 2/3
• 6 Panel Door• Panel• Stile• Top Rail• Lock Rail• Bottom Rail
Doors 3/3
• Transom• Sidelight
Electrical 1/4
• Underground Power Transformer Box
Electrical 2/4
• Service Head• Meter will be
installed here
Electrical 3/4
• Service Panel

Framing 7/7
• 10. Rafter• 11. Roof Decking• 12. Sheathing
Front End Loader
• This is a Cat 420 Backhoe Loader. The loader bucket is pictured here which is used for material handling from spreading and moving to loading dump trucks.
Gypsum Board
• Gypsum Board is used as a finish material that covers up studs and framing allowing for a smooth uniform interior wall surface.
Heat Pump 1/2
• Air Handling Unit• Serves as the main
fan that ciculates the air through the house.
Heat Pump 2/2
• Compressor• Coil• Two main components used to chill or heat
the air for the HVAC system.
Insulation
• Rigid Board Insulation
• The insulation serves as a barrier to help keep the interior temperature from being affected by the exterior temperature.
Lintel
• Steel Lintel
Mortar Joints 1/2
• Concave Tooled Joint
• 1/2” Joint
Mortar Joints 2/2
• Flush Troweled Joint• 1/2” Joint
Oriented Strand Board (OSB)
• OSB is formed from wood particles that are oriented to mesh together and are compressed with a glue additive to form one solid board.
Plumbing 1/4
• Lavatory- A sink or basin used for washing. Typically a 2” drain line.
• Water Closet-Any room with a flush toilet. Minimum 3” drain line.
Plumbing 2/2
• Manufactured tub unit
Plumbing 3/4
• Plumbing Roof Vent• Plumbing Vents are
used to let air into the plumbing system behind the draining water to prevent a vacuum from building up similar to holding your finger over a straw.
Plumbing 4/4
• Drop in kitchen sink
Plywood
• Plywood is made of several thin solid layers of wood that are pressed and glued together in a similar way to OSB. This leaves a nicer looking wood veneer as the exposed surface in comparison to OSB.
• Veneer-refers to thin slices of wood, usually thinner than1/8 inch, that are typically glued onto core panels to produce flat panels
Rebar
• Rebar is cylindrical steel with rigdes forged into the surface to create friction in the concrete. The rebar adds the tensile strength to the slab that concrete alone lacks.
• The rebar pictured here is #5 or 5/8” rebar.
Steep Roof Drainage
• Gutter-Directs water from the roof to the downspout
• Downspout-Carries water to the ground where it is dumped out away from pathways and where it helps drainage.
• Splashblock-Disperses the water as it hits the ground, usually made of concrete, helps prevent eroding.
Steep Roof Materials 1/3
• Underlayment
Steep Roof Materials 2/3
• Metal Shingles
Steep Roof Materials 3/3
• Metal Panel Roof• Typically made of
tin, stainless steel, or aluminum.

Stone 2/2
• Random Ashlar• Coursed Ashlar
Waterproofing
• Water barrier to stop water from seeping through the part of the wall below finish grade.
Weep Hole
• Weep holes serve to let any water vapor that gets behind the brick veneer a place to escape.
Welded Wire Fabric
• This 6”x6” grid of wire mesh gives the concrete slab strength in tension by bonding it into the concrete.
Windows 1/3
• This is a casement window due to the hinge running along the side.
Windows 2/3
• An inward swinging hopper window.
Windows 3/3
• A vertical sliding Double-Hung window.
