State AssessmentAs you may be aware, the state of Arizona has adopted a new assessment that willreplace AIMS (except for 4
thgrade Science), beginning this spring. AzMERIT
(Arizonas Measurement of Educational Readiness to Inform Teaching) is the name ofthis new assessment. Below are some FAQs about this assessment:
Why does Arizona need this new test?In 2010, the Arizona State Board of Education adopted new standards in EnglishLanguage Arts and Mathematics for all students in Arizona. These academicstandards outline what students should know and be able to do at each grade level. With the adoption and implementation of the new standards, a new test wasnecessary.
How is AzMERIT different from the AIMS test?Arizonas Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) tested the old standards. Spring2014 was the last time AIMS was administered for reading, writing, and mathematics.
AzMERIT, based on the new standards, will tell teachers, students, and parents ifthey are on track to be college and career ready upon graduation from high school.
The Arizona Science Standards did not change, so students in Grades 4, 8, and highschool will still take the AIMS Science test.
Who will take AzMERIT?Arizona public school students in Grades 3 through high school will take AzMERIT.Students in Grades 3-8 will take an assessment in English Language Arts andMathematics. Only eligible students with significant cognitive disabilities will
participate in alternate achievement tests.
How will AzMERIT be administered?AzMERIT will be computer-based. Students at our school will experience taking suchan on-line assessment using the sample items provided by the Arizona Department ofEducation.
When will AzMERIT be administered? The testing window for schools administering the computer-based assessment isMarch 30 May 8, 2015. We will receive more information, including specific testingdates, later this month.
Where can I find more information?
The Arizona Department of Education has a lot of information about AzMERIT,including sample test items, on their website:http://www.azed.gov/assessment/azmerit/

LIBRARY NEWS!
It takes a LOTto ensure thatour library collection is properlymaintained to foster the loveofreadingthat we do at VentanaVista. This entails "weeding"
the collection, or removingmaterials from the collection in
a systematic and deliberateway, to ensure that it is current,
useful and dynamic.
For the next couple of months, our library will be closed everyother week so that this major
project can take place throughthe hard work of Mrs.
Wadsworth and Mrs. Wilson.Thank you, in advance, for your
understanding andcooperation. The end-result will
be well worth the temporaryinconvenience!

From: Mary Kamerzell, Superintendent of Schools
Subject: Open Enrollment for School Year 2015-2016
Pursuant to A.R.S. 15-816 Catalina Foothills School District will begin its open enrollment
application procedures for the 2015-2016 school year on December 1, 2014. The law requires
every Arizona school district to follow a prescribed procedure and timetable for admitting out-of-
district transfer students and resident transfer students (those who live in the District but are
attending a school outside the attendance area of their residence). All students who currently
attend CFSD schools and reside in other districts, and all CFSD resident students who are
attending a different school than they would based on their residence, are impacted by this law.
We require that all open enrollment students apply for admission each year. Therefore, if your child is a resident transfer (open enrollment) student and you want him/her to
continue in that capacity, or if your child resides outside of the district and you want him/her to
continue to attend a CFSD school next year, please complete an application form between
December 1, 2014, and February 28, 2015.
Open Enrollment applications and information regarding the application
process are on the district web site, www.cfsd16.org(as of December 1, 2014), orat the district office Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The district office is located
at:
