WARNINGS & CAUTIONS

Vista™ basic Instructions for Use 3/25950787 Rev 6/02

The following should be observed to avoid patient/user injury. This Instructionsfor Use manual contains detailed instructions and warnings on the use of theVista™ basic Infusion Pump. Please read it completely prior to using this device. This manual is intended to reinforce the teaching given to the user by a trainedhealth care professional or an authorized B. Braun representative.

WARNINGS♦ B. Braun will assume no

responsibility for incidents whichmay occur if the product is not usedin accordance with product labeling.

♦ Make sure the pump is stable, eitherfastened securely to the IV pole orresting on a flat surface.

♦ Prior to use, always check theaudible and visual alarms (and staffcall, where applicable).

♦ Connection of pump tubing to thepatient should only be made afterthe tubing is loaded and the unit isturned on. Disconnect tubing frompatient when changing solutioncontainers to avoid the danger ofincorrect dosage.

♦ Ensure there are no kinks in thetubing.

♦ Always read and follow theinstructions that accompany thesource container and IVadministration sets you are using.Carefully follow the instructions forloading, removing, and reloading theset, as well as the recommended setchange intervals.

♦ Change pumping section on tubingevery 24 hours. Do not use tubingfor more than 72 hours or percurrent facility protocol.

♦ Always check pump data prior tostarting infusion.

♦ Do not operate this device inenvironments where there is anexplosion hazard! A possibleexplosion hazard exists if the pumpis used in the presence offlammable anesthetics.

♦ The EMC-limits (Electro-magneticcompatibility) according to IEC/EN60601-1-2 and IEC/EN 60601-2-24are maintained. If the equipment isoperated near other equipmentwhich may cause high levels ofinterference (e.g. HF surgicalequipment, nuclear spin tomographyunits, mobile telephones, etc.)maintain the recommendedprotective distances for thesedevices. Under certain conditions, malfunctions may occur which leadto a device alarm with permanentalarm tone. Interference may occure.g. at electro-magnetic fields > 10[V/m] resp. electro-magneticdischarges > [8 kV].

♦ Monitoring of the patient andinfusion status is necessary toensure the infusion is beingdelivered as anticipated. The Vistabasic has been designed to stopfluid flow to the patient under certainalarm conditions. Also, prior tostarting an infusion, verify that nodrops are falling in the drip chamberand the programmed information iscorrect.

WARNINGS & CAUTIONS

Vista™ basic Instructions for Use 4/25950787 Rev 6/02

♦ After starting an infusion, make suredrops are falling in the drip chamber. If no drops are falling, make sure theroller clamp is open. If the rollerclamp is open and still no drops arefalling, replace and dispose of theset.

♦ The air detector cannot recognizethe introduction of air at 3-waystopcocks, infusion ports, and otherlines/tubes below the pump.

♦ See section entitled “Drop Sensor”for additional information on usingthe device without a drop sensor.

♦ To avoid mechanical or electronicdamage, do not steam autoclave orimmerse the pump in any fluids orcleaning solutions. Alwaysdisconnect electrical power cordfrom outlet before cleaning toprevent electrical shock.

CAUTIONS♦ Rx only. ♦ Do not attempt to infuse two fluids

simultaneously using the Vista™

basic.♦ Variations in pressure, e.g. caused

by change in level of fluid container, may affect the accuracy of thedevice.

♦ If several pieces of infusionequipment are connected together,it is possible there may be mutualinfluence. Possible incompatibilitiescan be found in the instructions foruse for the drug or for the otherappliances.

♦ Use only equipment, accessories, parts, and disposables that areintended for use with the Vistabasic.

♦ Do not clean, disinfect, or sterilizeany part of the device by autoclavingor with ethylene oxide gas. Doingso may damage the device and voidthe warranty. Only external parts ofthe pump should be disinfected.See “Maintenance, Storage, &Service” for suggested cleaningsolutions.

♦ Technical specifications are notguaranteed with any other tubingthan that approved for use with theVista basic.

♦ Any analog and digital componentsconnected must demonstrate thatthey meet EN specifications (i.e. EN60950 for data processingequipment and EN 60601 forelectrical medical equipment).

♦ Only an authorized systemconfiguration technician responsiblefor meeting the specifications ofstandard EN 60601-1-1 mayconnect additional devices to thesignal inputs or outputs.

SAFETY STANDARDThe Vista basic meets all safetystandards for medical electrical devices, corresponding to IEC 60601-1 and IEC60601-2-4. NOTE: IEC 60601-1 corresponds toEuropean Standard EN 60601.
