VISTA: COMMUNITY LIAISON

THE GREENHOUSE

A CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY ENRICHMENT CENTER

The GreenHouse is a Christian Community Enrichment Center located in theGardenland/Northgate neighborhood of Sacramento, California. We offer after-school tutoring,mentoring, summer camp, youth groups, leadership development, and skill-building workshopsto under-resourced youth. Our mission is to cultivate a thriving community by nurturing the

emotional, spiritual, intellectual, and physical development of our youth and inspiring them togrow to their full potential.

FOCUS & SCOPEEssential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral partof the job, are indicated below.

Build capacity for The GreenHouse through:o Fund Development Research and Assistanceo Volunteer Recruitment and Managemento Development of Community Partnerso Communication with stake holderso Outreach Eventso

Parent Engagement/Parent Action Teamo Program Evaluation and Data Collection

Complete quarterly VISTA Reports

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: Available for VISTA service August 10, 2012 August 9, 2013 Available for training in Los Angeles August 6-9, 2012 High school diploma (bachelor degree preferred) Passion for urban/youth ministries, youth development, and community transformation Excellent verbal and written communication skills Able to take initiative and work independently Strong organizational skills Strong project management and computer skills Access to an automobile or public transportation (for local and regional transportation) Ability to make a full-year, full-time commitment - 40 hours per week

BENEFITS FROM AMERICORPS:Monthly stipend of $936, health-care coverage, 10 personal and 10 sick leave days, training anddevelopment opportunities, post-service education award of $4,725 or end-of-term stipend of $1200.

Background information on Americorps VISTA: VISTA is a national service program designedspecifically to fight poverty. AmeriCorps VISTA members serve full-time for a year in anti-povertyorganizations and agencies throughout the nation, working on issues such as fighting illiteracy, improvinghealth services, creating businesses, increasing housing opportunities, improving college access, andbridging the digital divide. VISTAs perform indirect service, which means they help build the capacity oforganizations to deliver valuable direct services to people living in poverty. VISTAs typically create new
