VisionQuest 2012 As the program year begins, the Cathedral inaugurates an exciting project entitled VisionQuest 2012. As mentioned in last month’s Canticle, the goal is to give the elected leadership of the Parish an opportunity to sit down with as much of the membership as is willing and learn more about the people that make up this vibrant, ever changing congregation. We believe this will allow us to more effectively serve our community in the name of Jesus Christ. e goal is to spend approximately thirty (30) minutes with as many of you as possible learning about your impressions of the Cathedral Community and your ideas and hopes for our future ministries. Anyone who attends the Cathedral is invited to participate in this program. Each Vestry person will be paired with another member of the parish, and these teams of two will meet with you individually, or along with your spouse/partner if you prefer. Although VisionQuest coincides with our Annual Fall Stewardship Campaign, financial support of the Cathedral will not be on the agenda for these conversations. ese conversations will be conducted at the Cathedral in 30 minute time slots between 11:30AM and 1:45PM on the six Sundays between October 7 and November 11. Conversations will be scheduled in the following ways. If we have a current e-mail address for you in the Cathedral database, you will receive an e-mail invitation onTuesday, September 4, from “Laurie Bailey (via Doodle)” which invites you to participate in the Doodle poll VisionQuest. Click on the link in the e-mail and this will take you to a page that lists all six Sundays and time slots that are available. Click the button at the top that says “show all options”, enter your name and choose one of the available time slots (if a time slot has already been taken, there will be no white circle on which to click). Once you have made your selection a green dot appears in the white circle. Next, scroll across the page to the bottom right hand corner of the selection block and click the button marked “SAVE.” “Additional Information Request” box will pop up - fill it in click “SAVE.” You will then be taken to a confirmation page that says “anks, your choice has been submitted.” If the invitation doesn’t arrive and you usually receive our e-mails, please check your Spam folder. For those who do not have access to computers, we will have a table in Stuart Hall at the Kick Off Pancake Breakfast and the 10 o’clock coffee hour on September 9 with a volunteer available to schedule you for one of these slots. A volunteer will be at Coffee Hour/Ministry Fair on September 16 as well. You can also go to the Cathedral website (www.cccnola.org) on Sunday, September 9, and click the VisionQuest button. is will take you to a page that lists all six Sundays and time slots that are available. Click the button at the top that says “show all options”, enter your name and e-mail address (so we can send a reminder) and then choose one of the available time slots (if a time slot has already been taken, there will be no white circle on which to click). Once you have made your selection a green dot appears in the white circle. Next, scroll across the page to the bottom right hand corner of the selection block and click the button marked SAVE.” “Additional Information Request” box will pop up - fill it in click “SAVE.” You will then be taken to a confirmation page that says says “anks, your choice has been submitted.Beginning the first week of October, we will work through the parish directory and call those persons who have not already made appointments to see if you are willing to schedule one of the available time slots. Should you prefer for a team to come to you, please call the office or share this with the person who contacts you as we also have teams available to come to your home. I am very grateful for the Vestry and other team members that are being so generous with their time in order that we can accomplish this big project, I pray that you are willing to help us become an ever more vibrant Cathedral Parish in the years to come. Greetings from Advent House:Life is moving quickly by. July 15, 2012 marked my 7th year as Director of Advent House, one of the incredible ministries of Christ Church Cathedral. I am so grateful to have been called to serve in your midst. Thank you for continuing to support Advent House with your prayers, donations and presence. In case you don’t know…. The mission of Advent House is to offer friendship, guidance, spiritual direction, support groups and hospitality to clergy, their families and others. Our connections to clergy in Louisiana and neighboring dioceses assist them to meet their challenges, and to better support their faith communities. I am working with 48 (Clergy or Spouse) Spiritual Direction Cli-ents from this Diocese and 12 Lay persons. I am also working with 19 Clergy from other diocese. I see most clients once a month. We also provide resources to our cathedral family and to those who minister in other churches in our city and diocese. We do this through hospitality, friendship, guidance, spiritual direction, and support groups. Please feel free to contact me (Linda Nelson) for more information about how Advent House might be a resource for you. My email address (best way to contact me) is [email protected]. If you call, please leave a detailed voice mail message. I do not answer the phone when I am with someone so I often have to return calls. (504-895-0553). Speaking of Groups:Advent House Book Club will resume Monday, October 15th from 1 to 2:30pm. We will begin to discuss a book that comes highly recommended by our own Canon Steven Roberts. The title of the book is Christ Haunted Landscape. This is a book “about Faith and Doubt in Southern Fiction” written by Susan Ketchin. It contains stories, interviews, and discussions showing the imprint of “old-time religion” on the artistic vision of twelve writers of the American South. On October 15th we will discuss Chapter 1 pages 3-44.Please plan to join us when you can. If you have to miss a few Mondays it will not matter. Everyone is welcome.

Don’t Miss This Special Opportunity! Workshop Opportunity on the Desert Sayings

Let Love Rule: Finding Spiritual Guidance from the Desert Sayings

September 28-29, 2012

Dr. Roberta Bondi, retired professor from Candler Theological Seminary, Emory University and author of To Love as God Loves: Conversations with the Early Church, To Pray and to Love, and numerous other books and articles on the Desert Fathers and Mothers, will present a workshop entitled "Let Love Rule: Finding Spiritual Guidance from the Desert Sayings".

The Desert Fathers and Mothers were hermits, ascetics, and monks who lived mainly in the Scetes desert of Egypt beginning around the third century AD. The most well known was Anthony the Great, who moved to the desert in 270-271 and became known as both the father and founder of desert monasticism. The Desert Fathers and Mothers had a major influence on the development of Christianity.

Dr. Bondi is the premier spokesperson for the message of these earliest contemplatives and is an expert at synthesizing the essential message of the desert in practical terms which we can live in our time. It is said that she is very down to earth. Dates: September 28-29, 2012
