Helena decided to set up a competition

between these two, to see which one

really was the better fisherman. She paid

the tickets and gave them some money to

survive on the ultimate fishing trip. The

rules were simple, one was to head east

and the other west to meet again at the

furthest point from home, on the island of

Tahiti. The one with a better story to tell,

of any species caught, whether biggest in

size or quantity, would be the winner. Half

a year, half a world. Off you go you two…

On a pale calm morning in November �009,

the head of the family woke up, the now

89- year old grandmother, Helena Vision,

a daughter of the world famous fly fisher

August Vision, who died in 191�. She was

forced to get up just as she did every other

morning - in order to stop a fight. Her son,

normally cool as a cucumber, was trying to

verbally defend himself, citing his previous

night’s catch, against his son, who was

championing his own one. It was time to

bring this to an end.

A long, long time ago, in the small village of Kellokoski Finland, a son was born into the family

Vision. A family with long roots, buried deep inside in the sport of fly-fishing. The boy already

showed great interest in this sport by the age of five; when he caught his first fish on a fly. He

got better every year catching more and more fish from everywhere he casted. As a teenager, he

started to brag about his catch inside the family. It went on and on and on and he always tried to

surpass his teacher and a grandmaster of this art, his own father.

In a split second, the boy ran to gather his

armory from his secure weapon locker.

The gear in his chest contained the latest

innovations in rods, reels, lines and everything

else you could even think of needing.

It was the chest of life to him and no one

really knew what was inside of it as he kept

it very precisely locked. A young rebel, a

black jack of �1, he was keen, enthusiastic,

and, as he then realised, his heartbeat was

pumping like a machine. Mr. Clear Vision

was ready to rumble.

Meanwhile in the attic, a proud father was

about to step up to the challenge against

his son. He took this with a good humour,

and was as calm and easy as always. He

smiled when he blew the dust off his old

bamboo rod. “Hmmm… Maybe it really is

time to upgrade this set to this century.”

He would let his boy rush and fuss and was

sure that he could teach the young one a

lesson using his experience, skills and

reasonable attitude. After all, those were

the attributes he’d always tried to teach

him. Mr. Broad Vision looked to the mirror

and said: “I am not too old for this. Yet.”

The coin flip had decided to throw the boy towards west. He headed for

one of Eastern Europe’s best C&R grayling waters, to Lesko, Poland.

He thought he would multiply his catch for the day by releasing every

fish and trying to get it back again. He started the day with a fast and

reachable rod for nymphing, the 9’’�’ #� GT�. As the day went on and

the evening rise was about to begin, he switched to a softer 9’ #� Cult

and continued with dries. At the end of the day he finished with total of

8� measurable grayling. “That came easy.” He said with a wide smile in

his face. He didn’t know what was still to come.

He used the precise timing of his underhand

to get everything out from this rod, and

boy it casted far. Nearby in the middle of

a massive stream came the take. The fight

would have been long without the endless

power that the butt section gave to him

during the runs. He had casted only once

and caught one fish. It weighed nearly as

much as Clear’s grayling put together.

Someone ran to shake his hand and

congratulated Broad on his phenomenal

start to the competition, which the whole

world was now watching closely. “Hmmm…

the smoke of my pipe really helps to keep

the mosquitoes away…” He just mumbled.

While Clear was busy (as usual) with the

Polish grayling, his dad went on with

considerable calmness (as usual) and

went to his home river, Teno. This massive

salmon river runs in the north of Finland

and it had saved his season for many many

years with huge salmon, so he knew it stone

by stone. He was sitting by the campfire,

smoking his pipe, stroking his beard and

thought about getting his line wet for the

first time. On the fourth night he felt that

the place, the light, and the time was right

so he grabbed his �0th birthday present,

Their roads separated further as Clear reached his second destination Anegada. At the same

time, his dad Broad went abroad for the first time in his life to meet the old tribes of the Ural

Mountains, whom he had only seen on TV.

While Clear was enjoying the Caribbean

sun, Broad was approaching the cold dry

mountain breeze and the numerous grayling

to be caught. The life in the mountains

was the kind he liked, slow, simple and

timeless. Simple was also the gear he had

chosen for this stopover. On the cold late

autumn days his CDC reel worked exactly

as it should and he ended up landing a

couple of those famous Taimen aswell,

playing them with the grayling gear, nice

and smoothly.

Clear spent half the money his grandma had

given to him renting a posh flat boat and

hired a famous guide. He opened one of his

reel bags and took out the big mills that could

be used in this kind of salty water without

getting them rusty. He needed a powerful

brake to stop underwater missiles such as

bonefish, tarpons and GT’s. The brake discs

blazed red while he turned these runners one

by one towards the boat. It was his time to

go for size. The handle spun like a speed car

engine throughout the day and he achieved

his lifetime’s dream. He hit the jackpot

thanks to the XLB’s help in turning around all

On the other side of the world, Broad was proceeding

slowly but surely towards his destination. The time

he spent with his new friend has introduced him to

new aspects in fishing and he was ready to hit the

western coastline of this enormous continent. He had

to use a special braid made from fly lines weaved

together with the durable backing while crossing the

Himalayas. Looking at a map of the region he had

thought that the purple colored splotch all over the

it was merely part of the map’s colourful design. So

he went straight across it. He met some climbers on

the way and lent them his braided rope and in return

got a sherpa to carry all his equipment all the way

over the mountains as an exchange.

–That was a nice fellow, he thought. He also took

a boat ride, just as his son did deep in the remotest

Brazilian rain forests. This was a different one though,

as he got himself on to a deep sea fishing vessel full

of Japanese sailors. He laughed when he saw that the

vessel had the same name as the line he was about

to use next. The Bottom Express. After passing the

Mariana trench, above a depth of 10,911 meters ( at

11”�1’ North latitude and 1��” 1�’ East longitude) he

caught many species he was stunned by the sight of,

but he measured them anyway. “ How big could a fish

with a flashlight in its forehead grow? How could I

tell?”

Clear was in the zone of big fish. He took a flight to Fonte Boa, a rainforest territory in Northern Brazil, to end up

fishing the bushy corners of Amazon river, where it was possible to catch the biggest Giant Catfish imaginable on a fly.

Heavy Extreme tippets and even heavier lines saw daylight while he posed with another four local helpers to hold the

enormous fish up. “Is this a fish at all?!?!” He laughed. The local tribes were more interested in his lines. As money

was an unknown currency here he decided he could probably save himself from possible cannibals by trading these

different colour coils of Big mamas, Compounds and Ace shooting heads for a canoe and oars. He cut a nice deal,

although the locals used the lines as a jewellery in their warrior outfits…

extend / 15,3 m headFor those who want to combine long and accurate casts. It may need some skill and a bit of casting experience, but with this line, you’ll love it. With Extend, you will see your casts go further but close calls work nicely as well. This is now our highest selling line. Perhaps also our best.

extreme distance / 9-12 m headED is a more traditional combination of thin running line and a level type head. Essentially made to reach further without too many false casts. With the long front taper you will avoid splash in your presentation. If you can even see that far. Sinkers have a floating running line for easier handling.

ace / 7.9 – 15 m headChoose and use. Scissors not needed. These lines are available in three lengths: regular ace, ace short and ace long. Ace shooting heads are now available also with an interchangeable tip system. The package includes a floating head with floating, intermediate and sink 3 tips. The intermediate tip is clear and therefore almost invisible to the fish. The head and tips have strong and slim loops for easy and quick connecting and the head also has a loop at the back end for attaching it to the running line. For those who need faster than sink 3 tips we also offer separate, sink 5 and sink 8 tips. These tips have the same weights and lengths as the package tips, offering hinge free casting. Ace tip lines perform very well with Skagit style casts too. The Ace tip system is available from 23grams to 45grams and they follow the standard Ace lengths, weights and profile. The rivers flooded as young Clear arrived at the bank of XXXX on Vancouver

Island, North America. It was a time to go through all the wader bags he had

carried with him. Barefoot wading: too cold. Extreme hip: too short. Radipor

guiding: too short. Even his own Gillie in size small was not high enough for

wading without letting in freezing water at the top. He decided to use his

dad’s Extreme zips in size XXL, and cut holes for the arms and head as he

tied the waders, which were far too large, on top of his head. By this he could

gain the missing inches he needed for reaching the fish. A brave, stupid and

silly-looking thing to do, but it worked as he managed to land nice steelheads

and kings with this sleeping bag like outfit.

Broad had reached the destination he had always

dreamed about. New Zealand. The green hills and

the clear rivers, for which he had named his son, were

the next venues to discover. Luckily, he had packed

his Stealth Amphibias, the ones without the studs, as

these sporty brownies and rainbows.

Rubber was the only material he could use on the

ground of this dry fly fishing Mecca, as traditional

“Thank God I ended up here in the middle of the dry

fly season,” said Broad to himself while hundreds of

Cicadas were plopping like raindrops on to the surface

of the Waimarino on a hot summer evening. He decided

to wear his Thinskin jacket, as he wanted cover from

this odd raining dinner of many underwater mouths. As

it was summer in that part of the world, the jacket was

light and breathable enough to keep him going without

sweating. That evening’s rise was one of many he fished,

catching and releasing tens of those “Turbo boosters”

running from lake Taupo. - A �,� kg wild rainbow on a

dry fly with a �x tippet, that’s a story to tell, he thought

as he packed his gear and booked a first class flight to

Tahiti. He had saved nearly all the money he got from

his mum, and could give himself a nice treat for the

last leg of this trip.

At the other end of the Pacific Ocean, things were not

that great. When it comes to the weather conditions,

at least. The late winter had arrived at the Chosen

River, Alaska and it appeared to be the heaviest rain

Bay, Tahiti, Clear was still tackling the

biggest task yet to be overcome. Broad

was wearing his ventilated Mohito, and

drinking one too. He was getting worried,

as this was the week they were supposed

to be meeting there. “Should I call him to

see if he is OK?” He decided not to do it.

The boy had got into this mess in the first

place, so he should take what comes and

take it like a man.

Clear was wearing everything on him that

he had brought on this trip. While the

The two crusaders were happy to finally

meet in the tropics. Both realized that

each other’s biggest concern for the past

six months had been the welfare of their

best fishing buddy. For both of them the

key thing in all their travels had been the

safe arrival of the other. After all, both of

them provided for the other a friend and

pal to fish and share stories with. They

promised to never brag about their catches

and to keep the peace in their family. They

watched the sun go down through Terraces,

on a terrace.

With a blue mirror finish this lens is at its best on the sunniest days and for offshore use.

Our Polarflite shades include a wide collection of frames with active tri-acetate cellulose lenses. They give 100% protection from UVA-, UVB- and UVC light. They effectively block both visible light and the light reflected from water surface reducing the aligned, partially polarized glare. They are finished with hard coat scratch- resistant surface. These lenses will not absorb haze and will stay constant with a low haze value of 0,4%. A perfect choice for all-round shades. Rinse your flies in water before applying Powder Float, put them in the box, shake a couple of times and presto! They are ready for use again.
