The last newsletter that was published was the March 2020 edition. The novel corona virus interrupted our
lives in February and with the definite restrictions of public gatherings taking effect in March, April, May and
June (and well into the future). Dealing with information about COVID-19 has been-and continues to be-
challenging. What we know is that older adults and people with underlying health conditions are the most at risk
for COVID-19 and having more complicated reactions. More recently we are learning that young adults and
children are increasingly being diagnosed with COVID-19. In addition, higher summer temperatures have
seemingly little effect on the virility of the virus.
THIS JUST IN (7-2-20) – THE JULY 9 CLUB MEETING HAS BEEN CANCELLED
Officers and directors got together at the regular time on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. VSA president Bob
Gaalswyk wanted to know if we should resume the club meetings. It was a resounding YES! An overwhelming
majority agreed to get back on track starting with the Thursday, July 9th general club meeting. CANCELLED!
It is recommended that if you have any hesitation in attending a meeting, please don’t. The Board of Directors
want you to understand that personal responsibility is exactly that.” It is your responsibility to judge your own
actions and conduct while balancing the needs of yourself, your family and your community. In these times if
you are not comfortable in a group setting, being near others not wearing a mask, or having someone in your
personal space, visiting the club house may not be the thing for you.

The range schedule above only shows the major scheduled items for the range. Please check the club website
www.visaliasportsmens.com/calendar for more details on what’s happening each month. RSOs have the privilege
of shooting on “off” days and after public shoot hours. Many groups use the range throughout the month such as
4H, and CCW class qualification shooting. Originally planned for twice a month, Women’s Night at the Range
will be on the third Wednesday of the month until further notice. Ladies, grab your gear and get your daughters
and sisters out to the range on Wednesday, July 15th.
Also, at various times throughout the year, the range will
host special shoots for law enforcement, game wardens, and other non-profits and organizations.
At the MARCH 12, 2020 general meeting: Our March meeting went ahead as scheduled and plans for future
events were still taking shape: family dinner, the wild game feed, 100 Gun Dinner, VSA yard sale, and more.
(The next day, all plans for events and social gatherings were placed on hold.) Each monthly club meeting
features a drawing for a chance to win a gun or a gun safe. For March, we congratulate Barbara D., she chose the
Sig pistol! New and renewal memberships remain strong for January and February. And Frank Tebeau gave us
an update on legislative action.
From the MARCH 17, 2020 board meeting: The March board meeting was cancelled….
At the June 16, 2020 Board Meeting:
Yes, we are going to resume our club meetings! Ours doors will be open at 5 pm for the Thursday, July 9, club
meeting. The meeting starts at 7 pm. CANCELLED! The July board meeting will be Tuesday, July 14 at 6 pm.
Discussion is ongoing on how to get the 3 pistol shooting bays into service. The “vacant” bays are on the edge
of the rifle range berm and that does not provide an adequate and secure backstop.
It was decided to have a $15 damage deposit on target frames used for shotgun shooters. Experience has
shown that our target frames are destroyed faster and more often with shot shells. Signage will be placed at the
range indicating the target frame deposit fee. The requests to have shotgun targets available for purchase at the
range is being looked into. The VSA Yard Sale scheduled for June 13th has been cancelled.
Women’s Night at the Range – Ladies’ night will be once a month on the 3rd
Wednesday of each month from 5:00pm to 8:00 pm. RSOs will be on duty from 5 pm to 8 pm (or until dusk) for
women and girls to shoot and share hints and tips with each other. Some things to remember: there is NO charge
to shoot and you do NOT need to be a member, so please tell your female friends, family and co-workers. Bring
your own guns and ammo along with eye and ear protection (some loaner eye and ear protection may be
available). You can bring your own targets, or buy some at the range.

How old is your CASE knife? From the website: https://www.casexx.com/Library/Secret.asp
Here is the secret code to the dating system. The web page above has more info on how to identify your CASE
knife. Pretty interesting reading. Grab your knife and compare your markings!
In 1970, Case added ten dots beneath the U.S.A.
on all knife tangs. Each year a dot was removed.
The same dating system was used during the
1980s. The differences are the “lightning” form of
the letter S in Case and USA and the fact that the
dots were put above the USA.
From 1990 to mid-1993, the actual date was
stamped on the tang.
The dot system was used again from mid-1993
through 1999.
In 2000, Case introduced a new tang date stamp:
five X’s and five dots. From 2001 through 2005,
one dot is removed each year. From 2006 through
2009, an X is removed each year.
The 2010 Tang Stamp design again features five
X’s and five dots. From 2011 through 2015, one
dot is removed for each year. From 2016 through
2019, an X is removed each year.
The 2020 Tang Stamp design goes back to the
original 10 dots without a Long Tail C. From 2021
through 2029, one dot is removed for each year.

CLUB SPONSORED CCW CLASS: (JULY 6 and 7) at the VSA clubhouse!!
As part of your membership in VSA, the once-a-month CCW classes at the clubhouse are FREE!
You do not have to call first, just have proof of your VSA membership in good standing (yellow receipt
or membership card). Membership applications, renewals, or membership payments will not be
accepted at the class.
Wade Roberts will normally hold the CCW class at the clubhouse the first Monday AND Tuesday
of each month, 5PM to 9PM. Non-members incur a fee of $80 for an initial permit class (8 hours) and
$40 for a renewal class (4 hours). Renewal classes can be attended on either Monday or Tuesday, and
initial CCW application classes can be attended across months – Monday one month, and Tuesday the
next month, for example.
Everyone attending the class will also have to qualify with their permit pistols by shooting at the
range. Non-members will incur a range use fee of $20, while members have range privileges already.
You must qualify with each pistol on your permit. If you cannot qualify on the designated day, non-
members pay a $20 range fee and a $20 qualification fee, while VSA members pay a $10 qualification fee.
The CCW Instruction and Qualification Certificate are good for six months for initial application or
renewal, so you can plan ahead and have plenty of time. Don’t wait, get your CCW or renew it!
Please call/text Wade at (559) 303-2848, for more info.
