XIRING has launched the CL Watcher which allows consumers to secure their contactless payments. CL Watcher provides dual functionality by blocking the contact- less card functionality until the consumer agrees a payment and checking the LCD screen displays the amount paid. The consumer keeps their contactless card in the CL Watcher. In order to pay, the consumer holds his CL Watcher close to the contactless antenna and presses the button to deactivate the blocking function. This direction from the user stops the blocking and the transaction can be made. Once the transaction is completed, the CL Watcher displays the amount paid. Cryptomathic has become the first security vendor to announce the development of a GlobalPlatform compliant Key Management System for the financial sector. The international security solutions specialist is currently working to extend its Key Management System (KMS), launched in May 2007, in line with the GlobalPlatform Systems Specifications and is expected to bring a GlobalPlatform compliant product to market in Q1 2008. Cryptomathic.s GlobalPlatform compliant KMS is expected to enable organizations to manage the entire lifecycle of a number of cryptographic keys using a standard, centralized approach which meets core functional requirements set out by the global smart card specifications body. Depending on country-specific requirements, the chip can also incorporate other applications, such as accessing electronic public services or authenticate identity when shopping online. Scheduled for introduction from 2010, the resident permit can act as a temporary entitlement to residence, permanent residency permit, or a visa. In Canada, Visa is working with Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) to test mobile Visa payWave transactions based on the Visa mobile platform. The Ontario-based trial is scheduled for 2008 and will involve multiple phases including in- lab analysis, an RBC staff pilot, and a consumer test. As part of the trial, mobile phones with an embedded Near Field Communications (NFC) contactless chip will enable users to make mobile Visa payWave transactions at contactless acceptance locations. The NFC-enabled mobile phone, which is equipped with MasterCard PayPass, will allow Japanese consumers to make payments via their mobile phones around the world.
