Daniela Carvalho, M.D.,M.M.M. Guest Speaker Daniela Carvalho, M.D., M.M.M., is a pediatric otolaryngologist with
expertise in pediatric otology. She is the Director of the Hearing and
Cochlear Implant Program at Rady Children's Hospital of San Diego
(RCHSD) since 2003. Dr. Carvalho earned her MD and performed her
Otolaryngology‐Head and Neck Surgery residency at the University of
Campinas (UNICAMP) School of Medical Sciences (FCM) in Brazil and
underwent her 2‐year Pediatric Otolaryngology fellowship training
through UCSD/Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego. She completed a
Masters of Medical Management at USC in 2018. Her current research
includes the impact of bilingualism in pediatric cochlear implant patients
and endoscopic otologic surgery. She is very active in several national
and international otolaryngology societies and is the president‐elect of
SENTAC (Society for Ear, Nose and Throat Advancement in Children).
In addition to English, she is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, and speaks
German and French. She has published extensively in pediatric
otolaryngology and is frequently invited to speak at otolaryngology
conferences both here and abroad.

Topic: "Can you hear that?" Course Description
During this lecture we will discuss the importance of early diagnosis and management of pediatric hearing loss as well as current advances in the treatment of hearing loss and pediatric ear pathologie.
Objectives 1. Describe the importance of early diagnosis of hearing loss in the cognitive and language.
2. Describe the current technological advances in the treatment of hearing loss. 3. Describe new surgical techniques and teaching tools in pediatric otology.
