Dear students, dear exhibitors,
Much has changed since the last Career Fair and 2021 will surely be characterized as much by the “new normality” as last year: Around the globe, the ongoing corona pandemic continues to have an impact on all areas of life, including the labor market. But wit-hin every crisis lies opportunity. The corona pandemic has proved to be a driver for digitization in professional life.
This year's Jacobs Career Fair is also taking place under the um-brella of digitization. Companies and organizations from a wide variety of size, sector and work area get the chance to establish contact with our students and graduates at an early stage in their promising careers. These young talents are shaped by living and learning on an international campus, with residents from more than 110 nations. Intercultural competence and an eagerness to contri-bute society are qualities that define them. Their ambition to beco-me leading experts in their fields and a strong sense of innovation distinguish them as extraordinary employees. On the other side, our students benefit from information on job opportunities and career paths in inspiring institutions and companies – regional and global players alike.
Now in its seventh year, the Jacobs Career Fair will be held online for the very first time in its history. Besides the digital fair itself, a variety of workshops, networking opportunities and career talks offer all participants great opportunities to learn and connect. Experienced experts and human resources professionals provide first-hand insights and answer questions about application strate-gies, entrepreneurship, and labor market needs. We are proud, that numerous of our very successful alumni of Jacobs University are among our highly appreciated participants.

Dear students and fellow alumni,
In today’s climate, it has become more apparent that employa-bility is a daunting topic that every student and fresh graduate has to grapple with. With a year of social distancing behind us, there are certainly many hurdles we’ve overcome, but there is even more that we, and employers alike, have learned about the job market - lessons that allow us to see the silver lining and moments of opportunity for members of the Jacobs community.
As the world started to stand still last year, your alma mater was quick in going online and creating new ways for you to continue living the Jacobs experience. Remember: Jacobs is not just a university, it is a global community. Virtual networking opportunities with alumni were created for you, because the importance of connecting has become more apparent now than ever before. Networking with alumni allows you to not only get crucial advice for your career path, but also to make connec-tions with companies that will lead you to your first professional steps. It allows you to receive reassurance and input about the choices you are considering and clarity about your path. And we have two important alumni organizations waiting to connect with you: the Jacobs University Foundation of America (JUFA), based in the USA, and the Alumni Association, based in Germany. Both organizations have virtual offers to help you get connected. Make sure you take advantage of all the online opportunities at your disposal. Attend all the sessions available, meet as many alumni as you can, hear their stories, and ask questions.
Jacobians are known for being pioneers for a reason. Make sure you continue to live this legacy with us. You embody the core values of this University, and companies, NGOs, and research institutions are very much looking forward to meeting you. The world will soon start turning faster again, and the economy needs new talent now to keep up with the demands of the future. Be engaged, get involved, and stay connected. A virus turned the world upside down: the corona pandemic has changed all of our lives - and at a rapid rate. Traditional struc-tures ahave broken up, long-term business models have to be reconsidered, new products and services have to be added to companies’ portfolios.
Corona has once again shown how important employees are for the success of businesses and the transformation of tomorrow's economy. The courage to change and the strength to create new ideas pave the way to a successful future. Knowledge and innova-tion are still the basis for the future viability of Bremen’s eco-nomy. With the complexity and pace of change in the global work-force, small and medium-sized enterprises face the challenges of maintaining and expanding their innovation and competitiveness.
In their innovation efforts, companies can draw on an excellent network of science and re-search facilities here in Bremen. They benefit from the large pool of well-educated young indi-viduals who are constantly being prepared by the universities in the state of Bremen, that in-stillnnovation processes focus on people who dare to do something new with courage, crea-tivity and initiative. The transfer of ideas from person to person, and an effective transition from the universities into the economy is a key success factor for companies.
With the Jacobs Career Fair, companies from Bremen will have an excellent platform to gath-er international talents. Compa-nies from various industries have the opportunity to meet these well-qualified and motivated young academics. Students have the occasion to talk to their po-tential employers and can find out about entry and career opportunities that are important for their personal growth. In light of this, I hope that all the participants of the Jacobs Career Fair have interesting discussions and that they establish new relationships with employers.

Studying at Jacobs University gives personal contacts and profes-sional connections, often for the whole life. The Jacobs University Alumni Association was founded by the first graduating class in 2004 with the aim to foster relationships between students after graduation, to create and nurture a lifelong bond between the university and its graduates, as well as to support current and future generations of students.
All members of the Alumni Association have the opportunity to share contacts, stories and expertise with other individuals who consider Jacobs University a lifelong home.
