program overview:
During this Virtual Experiential Learning Program on Global Entrepreneurship, your students embark on a virtual journey to Germany, Italy, Hong Kong, Singapore and the U.S. They get to virtually meet managers from well-known global brands, such as Porsche, Boeing, Dolce & Gabbana and Facebook. In addition, the students become short-term entrepreneurs themselves when working on their own Start-up Challenge Projects and learn about the differences between the American, German, Italian, Hong Kong and Singaporean start-up ecosystems.
The company and start-up visits are composed of virtual tours of the companies as well as virtual meetings with managers whom the students can ask questions. The two People & Friends program managers and workshop trainers, Andreas and Janina, accompany the participants during all of their virtual experiences. While they provide guidance and support to the student teams for their Start-up Challenge Projects and the final pitching competition, five virtual guest speakers are invited to give overviews of each countryʼs entrepreneurship culture.
In order to engage the students virtually, there will be a series of virtual exercises and experiences they take part in. Besides participating in a virtual cooking class led by a Berlin start-up, the students go on a VR tour of the Metropolitan Museum or Art in New York, enjoy a 360° visit of the Colosseum in Rome, explore major Berlin sights, "hike" up to Hong Kongʼs Big Buddha and use their VR glasses yet again when "flying" through Singaporeʼs Gardens by the Bay. Furthermore, the students learn how to create virtual tours themselves and talk about their personal experiences during the daily experiential learning breakfast debrief sessions.
the “Start-up Challenge“ projects explained:
There are three options here for the students:They develop their own business idea from scratchThey become an entrepreneurial consultant and tackle a challenge provided by a specific start-upThey complete a task assigned by their home universityʼs faculty member
If options number 1 and 2 have been chosen:Each day, Andreas and Janina give a highly interactive workshop to introduce the students to various state-of-the-art entrepreneurial tools and methods. By learning about Design and Visual Thinking or the Business Model Canvas, for example, the students are equipped with the needed skill-set and, more importantly, mindset to successfully tackle their Start-up Challenge Projects. On the last day of the program, each student team presents its final results to a virtual jury in form of a pitch* and the winner receives a fantastic prize.
If option number 3 has been chosen:The times allocated to the Start-up Challenge Projects serve as independent working time for the students to tackle the faculty memberʼs assignment.
*a pitch is a short and concise presentation, in which you try to convince your audience of your idea

orientationPrior to the program start date, all participants receive their own set of Virtual Reality (VR) glasses sent to their homes. They may keep the VR glasses after the program ends. Furthermore, People & Friends organizes an orientation session a week before the program start date to make sure that everyone is equipped with the needed software, hardware and grocery list (for the virtual cooking class). This session will also be used in order to form teams for the Start-up Challenge Projects.
Depending on which option has been chosen, this would mean:Not all students need to have their own business idea; 4-5 students act as idea givers and recruit fellow team members whom they have convinced of their own project. Two start-ups that have been selected by People & Friends act as challenge givers and the students are divided into teams who will compete against each other. For example, two student teams work for start-up #1 and 2-3 student teams work for start-up #2.The faculty member gets the opportunity to assign and explain their task to the students.
important information:
