Online condolences and distant hugs may be sent by visiting kendallfuneralhome. com “Brother,” said St. Fran- cis of Assisi to a young monk who had just entered the monastery, “let’s go to town and preach.” They left the monastery and walked to the town and did not say a word to each other or the people they passed in the marketplace. After several hours they retraced their steps and returned to the monastery. The young monk won- dered what was going on and after waiting for what seemed like an eternity he finally broke his si- lence and asked, “I thought we were going to town to preach. When are we going to preach?” “We have been preach- ing,” replied St. Francis. “As we walked, we were observed: people watched our manners, our faces, our behavior, and our clothes, what people thought we stood for. We have been preaching.” All of us preach all of the time. Our behavior is our message and our places of interest our pulpits. Our lives become lectures and Earnest H. Johnson Peterstown, WVa. Earnest Hubert John- son, age 75, of Peterstown, WV, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 17, 2020, at Heritage Hall in Rich Creek, VA. Earnest was a retiree from Bland Correctional Center. He was a loving father and grandfather who will be greatly missed. Survivors include his daughter, Pame- la J. Smith of Narrows, VA; a granddaughter, MeCalla N. Smith of Atlanta, GA; and several other relatives. He was preceded in death by his sister, Louise S. Sutton of Carrollton, AL; and brother, Kenneth G. Johnson of Andalusia, AL. There will be a small view- ing held for the immediate family and his remains will be carried to Alabama for burial at a later date, where a small service will also be held. Online guestbook can be signed or condolences may be sent to the family at www.broyles-shrews- bury.com. Arrangements by Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Peterstown, WV. Seeds of Hope our pursuits are examples of our priorities. People watch us even as we watch them. And each time we pass from view and our words can no longer be heard our ser- mon ends and a decision about the value and impor- tance we place on being like Christ in all we do and whatever we say is made. The problem we face today is not the quantity of Christians but the qual- ity. And if we want to win more, we must be more. How different would the world be if when we “de- clared God’s glory,” we also lived God’s glory. How we live is more important than words.

“Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Per-sia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be ful-filled, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia...” (Ezra 1:1 NKJV)

I was caught up by the phrase where the “LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus.” Imagine that. The Lord can prompt be-lievers and non-believ-ers to do His will for the good of His people.

That has many im-plications to encourage us to pray fervently for needs and believing that God is able to “stir up” someone’s spirit that may be the answer to our prayers. God caused King Cyrus to let the Jews return to their homeland. That was a major event for the Jew-ish people.

Nothing is impossible for God. Don’t give up in prayer.

“Brother,” said St. Fran-cis of Assisi to a young monk who had just entered the monastery, “let’s go to town and preach.” They left the monastery and walked to the town and did not say a word to each other or the people they passed in the marketplace. After several hours they retraced their steps and returned to the monastery.

The young monk won-dered what was going on and after waiting for what seemed like an eternity he finally broke his si-lence and asked, “I thought we were going to town to preach. When are we going to preach?”

“We have been preach-ing,” replied St. Francis. “As we walked, we were observed: people watched our manners, our faces, our behavior, and our clothes, what people thought we stood for. We have been preaching.”

Seeds of Hopeour pursuits are examples of our priorities. People watch us even as we watch them. And each time we pass from view and our words can no longer be heard our ser-mon ends and a decision about the value and impor-tance we place on being like Christ in all we do and whatever we say is made.

The problem we face today is not the quantity of Christians but the qual-ity. And if we want to win more, we must be more. How different would the world be if when we “de-clared God’s glory,” we also lived God’s glory. How we live is more important than words.
