Does violent behavior originate from within or without? For years, scholars have debated this very issue. Some argue that violence finds its roots internally, that humans are “naturally” inclined to become violent. Others argue that the way a person is raised, his or her environment, is the determining factor in how violent—or peaceful—a person will become. Revisit the readings from last week’s graded discussion. Then, in a well-developed essay, synthesize information from at least three of the sources to develop a position on the extent to which violence can be attributed to nature or nurture. Make sure your argument is central; use the sources to illustrate and support your reasoning. Avoid merely summarizing sources. Indicate clearly which sources you are drawing from, whether through direct quotation, paraphrase, or summary. You may cite your sources by using the authors’ last names in parentheses.
