What is the ACT?!! The ACT is a form of college entrance

exam that allows college admissions judges to evaluate your readiness for college and your current level of knowledge as it is related to the courses you have taken. It is an important test that many colleges require as a part of their admission requirements. The ACT is an achievement test that can help determine your level of knowledge from what you have learned in school so far. You will be tested in various subjects in order to gauge your understanding of these topics and how comprehensive your knowledge is.

How to prepare for the exam!

Schedule your ACT testing time for the time of day when you are at your best. Pick the time when you will be most alert.

Reserve time in your schedule for the ACT so you will not feel rushed during the exam. Scheduling activities or appointments after the test time may cause you difficulty in focusing on the latter portion of the test.

Memorize the directions for the ACT question types ahead of time. This will allow you to maximize the amount of time you spend actively answering questions during the exam.

Rest up the day before your test. Avoid any last minute cramming Take a break and go out with your family or friends to help settle your nerves.

Pack a few snacks and a drink to bring with you to the ACT testing center. Eat a little something just before your test.

Dress suitable for various temperatures.

Tips: English

Have an alerted mined in the type of writing the act includes. The passage may provide you with underline words and or phrases that you should take in concern.

Some questions may vary its information on different types of writing such as literary tools , tones and emphasis.

Re-read the answer and your choices. Mathematics

Refer to the passage when answering the question! Read the question more than once if necessary. Be ware of how you’re using your calculator.

Science Review conflicting points in the passage. Go over the scientific words when necessary.

Writing Do the best in analyzing the question Use big words that fit within the sentence. Elaborate on different ideas. Give examples with details Use literary tools!

admitted into the testing area. vi. If your admission ticket does not list a

specific room, test center staff or posted signs will direct you to you test room.

vii. Follow direction when copying a match of the admission ticket to prevent mistakes and being delayed for 8 weeks.

viii. Be aware of the type of form is being given to you because there are different answer keys.

***Do not leave the building for there are some doors that closes automatically and you might get locked out.***

Things you should know! No electronic devices! Talking Sharing Sleeping Don’t let anyone copy your answers!!!!! (you’re working too

hard to let anyone take advantage!) Follow the rules of the testing center and the proctor will

guide you with your sitting chair, if needed ask where you please to seat.

Things you should know… Filling in or alternate ovals on a test or

continuing to write the essay after time is called on that test.( its recommended to have your pencil down when the test is called for.)

Giving or receiving assistance from other examinees..

Looking ahead in the test booklet is prohibited.

It is prohibited to have highlighters, color pens or pencil, notes, dictionaries, or other aids.

Using the calculator on another testing area that is not mathematics.

A prohibited calculator. Sharing calculators. Electronics are not allowed during the break. Creating a disturbance or allowing an alarm

or phone to sound in the test room. Exhibiting confrontational, threatening or

unruly behavior. Not abiding the rules of the testing center.

What does the ACT include?

That ACT can contain up to five sections including Math, English, Science, Reading and Writing.

If you opt to take the writing test, you will be taking the ACT Plus Writing test rather than the standard ACT.

The test consists of 215 questions plus the 1 writing prompt. Most of the questions will be multiple-choice questions.

The highest score you can achieve on the ACT is a 36.

No points are deducted for wrong answers.

Each test score is based on the scores you receive on the sections within each test. Then, your test scores are averaged to create a composite score. This is your final score.
