VILLAGE NEWS AND VIEWS
President’s Corner
It’s hard to believe how fast time flies. Have you been hearing the
words “Spring Fling” and “nominations” more often? Our Nomina-
tions Committee is already hard at work trying to fill Board positions
for 2013. Don’t run away when you see them coming. Please
seriously consider filling a position. It’s a wonderful way to get to
work with so many of our members and get to know them better, as
well as, help shape the future of our chapter. Please contact Linda
Morgan, our Nominations Chair, to express your interest in
participating on the Board.
Did I mention “Spring Fling”? Sandy Tyo has already held her first
Boutique Paint-In at Connie Vasilnek’s house. Sandy and Karen
Capshaw were instructors and led us through three projects apiece.
Sandy went all out with a Cinco de Mayo theme. There were lots of
prizes and a great big spread of delicious food. Everyone had a
really fun time. Sandy is planning another Paint-In sometime in the
Fall. If you haven’t been to one, you won’t want to miss it. Fifty-
one pieces were painted by fifteen members. Thanks to Connie for
hosting, Sandy and Karen for all their hard work as instructors, and
the following members for attending: Denise Rogers, Dawn Billiau,
Paula Atkinson, Denise Robert, Loretta Huebler, Diana Winn, Susan
Rhodes, Darlene Greenwood, Char DeBaske, Diane Stiller, Linda
Christopher, Michelle Handley, Linda Morgan, and Janis Creswell.
Please check out the Tips and Tricks section of our website. Sheri
has finished uploading suggestions made by members to the site.
Please continue to submit suggestions to Sheri. Remember, this will
only be as good as your contributions make it.
Please make the following correction in your Village Painters 2012
Directory. Joyce Kuzera’s email address is [email protected].
Hope to see you at the June meeting. You won’t want to miss the
Zen Tangle demo.

Paula Atkinson came prepared to have a really good
time at the Boutique Paint-In with its Cinco de Mayo
theme. “1 tequila, 2 tequila, 3 tequila, floor!”
Debra Houts instructed this Brenda Stewart design at
the Rewards Seminar.

The board has decided to make some changes in
how we issue pence to make it easier for every-
one. You will no longer have to fill out a voucher
for any pence.
Please look for the sign up sheets at the Show &
Tell table and also for the sign up sheets at the
Snack table. I will collect those sheets and issue
pence from them. Memory and Treasure Boxes
already do this, please make sure your name is
inside the box. Library and Website chairs will
give me your name if you earn a pence with them.
If you serve on any committees it will be the
responsibility of the chair to report to the pence
chair the names of people who have worked with
them. We are hoping this will not only help in
making issuing pence easier but it will also help
track how we are giving pence out.
I will have the voucher forms there at the next
meeting, but they will be phased out.
Thank you for your support in this matter.

Memory and Treasure Boxes
Thanks so much to all who participated in the
General Meeting paint-ins for Memory and Treasure
Boxes. Our Memory Box supply has gone from six
to fifty-eight boxes. Twenty-five Memory Boxes
were delivered to Providence of Southfield in
March. Forty Treasure Boxes were recently sent to
Shriners
Hospital in Ohio.
Sixteen more patterns have been added to the
Treasure Box Library. We've also started compiling
a pattern library for Memory Boxes and have a total
of twelve patterns so far. More are needed. If you
would like to contribute a Memory Box pattern,
please make two copies and bring them to the June
General Meeting.
Thank you all for helping keep Village Painters'
Memory and Treasure Box Programs alive and
thriving!

The August Picnic
The August Picnic committee would like to
remind everyone that August is fast
approaching and will soon be here. Everyone
is encouraged to bring a dish for potluck.
The theme this year is "A Country Picnic".
The proper attire is denim and/or gingham.
One of the activities is a painted neckerchief
contest. These neckerchiefs will be voted on
during the meeting, and a prize will be
awarded to the artist with the most votes.
Ladies, let's get those neckerchiefs painted.
There will be an example at the June meet-
ing for you to see. Another activity will be
the annual trunk sale which will be held
from 5 PM until 6 PM. Dinner will be served
at 6:15 PM . Let’s get painting!

Raffle, Live and Silent Auction to follow
The Spring Fling Committee is excited to present our bi-annual FUNDRAISER. The size of the event will
be dictated by the involvement of all of our members. It is an awesome event and is great fun! You won’t
want to miss it! The luncheon fee of $20 will entitle you to lunch, a chance at the table centerpiece, a table
favor and one chance for the basket raffle. Additional basket raffle tickets will be sold in the following
manner: 11 tickets for $10.
Paula Atkinson is in charge of Baskets. ([email protected]) You can set the theme for your bas-
ket. The only requirement is that there be at least one painted item in the basket and that all items be new
or unused and look new. Please make the basket something you would like to receive. We have a list of
ideas for the baskets or for your table themes. The unwrapped baskets will be due at the general meeting
directly prior to the luncheon on Thursday, February 7, 2013 unless specific arrangements are made with
Paula. The Committee will then inventory, photograph, wrap and give them a bow. Please provide a
typed list of the items in your basket by email to assist in the preparation of the inventory. The items
don’t have to be expensive... Just use your imagination and your painting talents. For that matter, you
don’t have to use a basket … just some sort of a container to hold all your wonderful “stuff.” Maybe the
container will be your painted item.
Basket Ideas:

Silent Auction Our aim is to have items with a value of $30 or above. Pat Butler
([email protected]) is in charge of the Silent Auction.
Boutique Sandy Tyo ([email protected]) is in charge of the Boutique. Our guests will be looking for items for teachers, mothers for the upcoming Mother’s Day, and to decorate their homes and
give as gifts. They absolutely love the ability to purchase the favors from the different tables. They will
be sold outright. Please contact Sandy Tyo if you would be willing to have a paint-in for a small group in
your home or have ideas for items we can paint.
Loretta Huebler ([email protected]) is the chairperson for the Tables. We encourage you to
paint extra favors to sell in the boutique. Each hostess will choose the theme for their table. We will also
maintain a waiting list for guests who would be able to come at the last minute. Loretta will be the person
to turn to when you either need a guest or have extra guests. The tickets will be passed out at the February
2013 General meeting. Your guest names will be due by March 7 so that the name tags can be prepared.
Please email the names of your guests to Loretta by March. A check made payable to the Village Painters
for the guests at your table will be due at or before the April 4 meeting. We know that there may be last
minute changes.
Karen Capshaw ([email protected]) is in charge of the volunteers for the day of the luncheon. It takes many hands to have a successful Spring Fling and sometimes we have to multi-task. Please contact Karen
and volunteer to assist on the day of the luncheon.
The largest round tables that will seat 12 - 13 ladies are approximately 72” wide. The oval tables will seat
10 – 12 and are 72” long. The round tables for 10 - 11 are approximately 66” wide. A white fabric table-
cloth and napkins will be on each table. We have at least 11 (white, cream, red, burgundy, light purple,
dark purple, hunter green, light blue, navy blue, pink, black) different colors of napkins available. The
napkins will be brought to the February meeting so that you can advise which color you wish. Over-lay
colored table cloths look wonderful on the tables if you would like to make one or bring your own. The
Club also has a black over lay cloth if desired.
1. It will be a sit-down, served lunch.
2. As a hostess, the minimum requirement is that you must have a painted centerpiece which will be
raffled off at the end of the luncheon for the guests at your table and provide a favor to each of the
guests at your table. The favor can be a purchased item or something hand-painted. You can create
any design and get as detailed or elaborate as you wish. It is an awesome sight to see each different
table. Let your creative juices go!
3. Being a hostess for your table entitles you to a free ticket…a savings of $20.
4. Each hostess for a table will be in charge of her remaining tickets. The hostess can invite anyone
she wishes. If you do not fill your table, overflow guests or Village members will be added. Please
be sure to call Loretta Huebler to keep her advised of the needs of your guests. We will advise the
date by which the money and names of your guests are required so that name tags can be prepared.
5. Each guest will receive a ticket for the luncheon and one for the basket raffle. Obviously they will
have more chances to win by purchasing additional Basket Raffle tickets which will be sold before
the luncheon begins. Basket Raffle tickets will be sold for $10 with 11 ticket stubs.
Have Questions? Contact Chairperson, Karen Capshaw [email protected] or call 734-397-2543. The day
will be here before we know it so let’s get those paint brushes moving!
