INTRODUCTIONThe VillaMadonna Academy High School Return to School Task Force, comprised of schooladministratorsandfaculty,withinputfromsupportstaffmembers,ourITprofessional,facilitiesprofessionals, health professionals, school attorney, Board members, and the Diocese ofCovington,metweeklybeginningJune2tocreatethereopeningplan.Deliveringourhigh-qualityCatholic,Benedictineeducationassafelyaspossibleforourstudentsandfacultywasourgoal.This team, and others in support of it, have worked for months to learn, evaluate, plan,collaborate,andprepare for thesafereturnto in-person instruction. OurresponsehasbeenguidedbytheDioceseofCovington,theCentersforDiseaseControl,theGovernorofKentucky,theKentuckyDepartmentofEducation,andtheNorthernKentuckyHealthDepartment.FIRSTDAYOFCLASSESVilla Madonna Academy High School’s first day of classes for the 2020-2021 school year isscheduledforWednesday,August19,2020.
CAMPUSHEALTHANDSAFETYMEASURES
ThehealthandsafetymeasuresreflecttherequirementsandguidelinesfromtheDioceseofCovington,CentersforDiseaseControl,KentuckyDepartmentofEducation,andtheNorthernKentuckyHealthDepartment.
Ø TDGFacilitiesServiceswillimplementtheirenhancedcleaningplanthatinvolvesincreasingthefrequencyofcleaninganddisinfectingroutinesaroundhigh-touchareas,usingpumpsprayerswithapprovedEPAdisinfectantaftereachday,andadditionalcleaningduringthedayofentrances,commonspaces,stairsandstairwells,classrooms,restrooms,officearea,hallways,gym,andcafeteria.
Ø Thefacilitywillbetreatedweeklywithanelectrostaticdisinfectanttreatment.An
electrostaticsprayerandEPAapproveddisinfectantwillbeutilizedtobringthetreatedareatoadisinfectedstate.Thenegativelychargedparticlewrapsaroundthetreatedareacoveringallsurfaces.
Ø ThefacilitywillbetreateddailywithapumpsprayerandEPAandFDAapprovedorganicdisinfectantsurfacecleaner.Thecleanerisspeciallyformulatedtosanitize99.9%ofdangerouspathogensonhard,non-poroussurfaces.Thetreatmentissafe,effective,andrequiresnowiping.
Ø Handsanitizerdispensersareinstalledinsideeachclassroom.Studentswillusehand
sanitizerastheyenterandexittheroom.Teacherswillhaveanextrabottleofliquidhandsanitizertouseattheirdesk.Handsanitizerwillbeavailableuponenteringthebuilding.Severalfreestandinghandsanitizingstationswillbeplacedthroughouttheschool.Extratimeduringclasschangesallowsforstudentstogototherestroomtowashhandswithsoapandwater,iftheywish.Signsarepostedthroughoutthebuildingremindingeveryoneoftheimportanceofsanitizingandcleaninghands.
Ø Touchlesswaterfaucetsareinstalledintherestrooms.Allpersonswhovisitrestroomswillbeexpectedtowashhandsthoroughlywithsoapandwaterbeforeleavingtherestroom.Signageinrestroomswillreinforcetheseexpectations.
Ø Disinfectingproductswillbeavailableineachclassroomforteacherstocleandesksand
othersurfacesaftereachclass.Facultyandstaffwillcleanhigh-touchsurfacesperiodicallyintheirrespectiveareasduringtheday.Thefacilitiesstaffwillcleanhigh-touchareasinsharedspacesthroughouttheday.
Ø Waterfountainswillonlybeavailabletofillapersonalwaterbottle.Studentsareencouragedtobringtheirownpersonalwaterbottleslabeledwiththeirname.
Ø Posterswithpandemicguidelinesandproperhand-washingtechniqueswillbepostedthroughouttheschool.
CAMPUSHEALTHANDSAFETYPROTOCOLSØ Therearethreehomeroomspergradelevel.
Ø Studentswillbeseatedfacingthesamedirection.
Ø Seatingchartswillbemaintainedinallclassesandinthetheatre.
Ø Desksandseatingareaswillbespacedasfarapartaspossibleineveryclassroomfromthreefeettosixfeetormore.
Ø Largerclassesthatdonotfitintoanormalclassroomwillmovetoalargerspace.
Ø Maskswillberequired.Masksmustbethestylethattiesbehindtheheadorloopsaroundthe
ears.Themaskmustbeinkeepingwithschoolpolicyondresscode.Studentsmustlabeltheirmaskwiththeirnameandkeepanextraoneintheirlocker.Gaitersorbuffsarenotpermitted.Theschoolwillnotprovidemasksbecausewefeelitisinthebestinterestofallforstudentstochoosethemasksthatworkbestforthem.
Ø Stairwellswillbedirectionalandaresodesignated.Ø Studentswillwalkontherightsideofthehallwayonly.
Ø Lockerswillnotbeassignedbygradelevelbyratheralphabeticallysoastominimizegradelevel
congregation.Ø Alllarge-groupassembliesaresuspended.Gradelevelassemblies,whileobservingsocial
distancing,maketakeplaceduetooursize.Fieldtrips,dances,andothersocialeventsaresuspendeduntilfurthernotice.Clubmeetingsmaytakeplaceifsocialdistancingcanbeobserved.Clubmeetingsmaybevirtual.Visitorstocampuswillbelimited.
Ø Studentsmaybeginarrivingat7:20A.M.,enteringthroughthefrontdoorsofthemainbuildingfortemperaturescanning.
Ø Studentswillbepermittedtogototheirlockersuponarrival,atlunch,andatdismissal.
Ø ElevatoruseisforADAaccessonlywithnomorethantwopeoplepermittedintheelevatoratonetime.Masksmustbeworn.
Ø Ifeatingoutside,studentswilleatinthesameareaeachday.Wewillutilizeguidelinesfrompublichealthauthoritiesforcontacttracing.IFeatinginside,studentswillsitinthesamespace.
Ø Dismissalwillbestaggeredbasedongradelevel.Juniorandseniorswillbedismissedfirst,and
sosiblingswhoridewithajunior/seniormaybedismissedatthattime.Masksarestronglyencouragedifcarpoolingwithotherfamilies.
Ø Ifastudentneedstoleaveschoolearlyforanyreason,parentsmustcontacttheschoolviaphoneoremail.Studentsmaynotleaveunlesstheparenthascontactedtheoffice.Thestudentwillbedismissedfromtheofficetomeettheparentatthefrontentranceunlessthestudenthaspermissiontodrive.
Ø Parentsarediscouragedfrombringinginforgottenitemstotheoffice.Ifthisisnecessary,pleaseplacetheiteminoneofblockwindowsbythemaindoorandnotifytheoffice.
MONITORINGSTUDENTANDSTAFFHEALTHØ Priortothestartoftheschoolyear,parentsandemployeeswillberequiredtosignan
“AcknowledgementtoPerformaPersonalHealthAssessment”thatrequiresabasichealthscreeningandtemperaturecheckofthestudenteachdaybeforeleavinghome.ThisAcknowledgementformwassenthomeandcanbefoundonourwebsite.
Ø Uptodateimmunizationrecordsmustbeonfileintheoffice.Theschoolwillnotifythosewhoarenotincompliance.
Ø Students,faculty,staff,andvisitorswillberequiredtoenterthroughthefrontdoorsofthe
main(yellow)building.
Ø Students,faculty,staffandvisitorswillhavetheirtemperaturetakenastheyenterthebuildingviathermalscannerorhand-heldthermometer.Intheeventofatemperaturemeasuringatorabove100.4degreesFahrenheit,theperson’stemperaturewillbere-takenwithin7-11minutes.Ifthepersonisconfirmedtohaveafever,he/shewillbedirectedtoanareatoawaitpick-uporwillbesenthomeifhe/shedrives.
Ø Aseparateroomwillbeavailabletoisolateanyonewhohasatemperatureoranyothersymptomsofsicknessduringtheschooldayuntilhe/shecanbepickeduporcangohome.Theroomwillbestockedwithsanitizingequipmentandpersonalprotectiveequipment.
Ø Absenteeismwillbecloselymonitored,andspecialcircumstanceswillbeinplaceonacase-by-casebasis.Documentationwillbekeptastowhethertheabsencewaspandemicrelated.
Ø Communicationwillbesenthomeregardinganypositivecasesthatareconfirmedintheschoolandinformationwillbesenttothelocalhealthdepartment.
NTIOPTIONDURINGIN-PERSONHEALTHØ Theat-homelearningoptionisdesignedforCOVID-19relatedconcerns,quarantine,or
illness.
Ø According to Diocesan requirements, students may not participate in school-sponsoredextracurricularactivities. If ameetingoractivity can takeplacevirtually, the studentmayparticipate.
Ø StudentsmustuseNTIforaminimumofonequarter.Attheendofthatquarter,studentsmayopttocontinueNTIforanadditionalquarter.StudentsmaynotcometoschoolatanytimeduringtheirenrollmentinNTIforanyreasonsincluding,butnotlimitedto,athletics,socialevents,andextracurricularactivitiesofanykind.IfNTIstudentswouldliketoreturntotraditionalinpersoninstructionpriortotheendofthequarter,theparentsmustrequestthereturntoschoolnolessthanoneweekpriortothedesireddateofreturn.TherequestwillbeconsideredbytheVMACounselingDepartmentandadministrators,andparentswillbenotified.
Ø StudentsmustlogintotheirclassesviaGoogleMeeteveryday,ontime,andreadytolearn.Computerswithworkingcamerasandmicrophonesarerequiredandmustbeenabled.Studentsmaynotblackouttheirscreensormutetheirmicrophonesduringclasstimeunlessinstructedtodosobytheteacher.
