The Drowsy ChaperoneImportant Costume Information

READ THIS ENTIRE PAGE! Then, scroll down to your costume page and print it immediately. Due dates begin Tuesday – January 16, so you do not want to spring this on your parents the day before. Failure to bring costumes in could result in being replaced in scenes.

Costumes are to be turned in, as directed, at the costume room, at 3:00 on your due date, even if you do not have rehearsal that day. Items must be ironed, labeled and hung on plastic hangers before being brought to school. Socks, tights and shoes go in a bag placed over one hanger. Bring a second hanger for any other items and any items you receive.

How to turn items in:- Iron any pants/shirts, hang on a plastic hanger- Using a sharpie, write your name on a piece of masking tape and label all

clothes on the inside (including shoes)- T-shirts (boys), camis/leos (girls), socks, tights, shoes can go in a labeled

bag placed over a hanger- Write your name on a piece of masking tape and put that around any

hangers you bring in

If your items are not labeled, ironed and hung up, you will be sent to take care of this. If you are not prepared on your due date, Mr. Cummins will be notified.

Ensemble – At the bottom of this document, there is a sheet with pictures and tips with what to look for when shopping for a dress or skirt/blouse combo for your pool/party scenes. There are separate pages for girls and boys.

Ensemble in Fancy Dress – Boys need a white long sleeve dress shirt and gray dress pants; girls need a white long sleeve dress shirt (your concert shirts are perfect).

If your items do not fit in your locker, you may leave them in Ms. Hailey’s room during the day.

GIRLS SHOPPING PAGE

It is strongly recommended that you shop early and shop at:- Savers- Goodwill- Salvation ArmyYour goal is to find something as inexpensive as possible. Costume crew

can make adjustments to a dress that is the right shape as long as it fits. You are advised against purchasing a new dress that you are likely to never wear again. If you purchase something that is not appropriate to the style of 1928, you will not be able to wear it on stage so please follow the guidelines below.

DROP WAIST NO SHAPE DROP WAIST NO SHAPE DROP WAIST

Dresses:- Straight - Past the knee- NO nipped waists- Dropped waits are good- Asymmetrical hemlines are fine- Chiffon overlays are fine- Color blocking is fine (not 1980s or current color blocking)- Synthetic fabrics are a NO

Skirt/Blouse:- Must coordinate- Blouse long (at least to hip bones), and straight- NOT modern button up suiting or menswear blouses- Silky fabrics

The dress or skirt and blouse can also be purchased with a yard of a coordinating silky fabric to be made into an original 1928 drop waist dress. This can only happen if dress (skirt/blouse) and fabric are in on due date.

PLEASE GOOGLE 1928 WOMEN’S FASHIONS

This type of bad 90s shift dress, if it doesn’t have a seam at the waist can be altered into the styles above.

BOYS SHOPPING PAGE

Unlike like girls, your items will not be altered. As men’s fashions don’t change nearly as radically, you may have what you need in your closet. Before bringing anything in, you will need to make sure your pants are still long enough and everything is ironed. If you do need new pants or a shirt, you do have the option of purchasing something you will wear again after the show is over. You also have the option of going to a second hand store to buy something a little more “20s” or to find a vest and jacket, if you choose.

If you want this look, buy a baggy pant, and

make sure your socks come to your knees. When you turn your stuff in, let costume crew know that you want your pants turned into knickers. Obviously, you will want to buy pants at Savers/Goodwill/Salvation Army in this case. For this look, you can still use a good shirt, sweater and tie, only your pants need to be disposable (get a fun check or plaid to really make it work).
