MEDICAL ASSISTANT TRAINING PROGRAMFOR THE PATIENT-CENTERED MEDICAL HOME
Hostos Community CollegeThe Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) is being widely adopted by payers and healthcare providers in order to achieve improved health outcomes. The Medical Assistant plays an important role in the PCMH model and represents a large segment of the primary care workforce.
New Medical Assistant Training ProgramThe New York Alliance for Careers in Healthcare, in partnership with the Community Health Care Association of New York State and the City University of New York, worked collaboratively to design a Medical Assistant training program that reflects the needs of healthcare employers. The training program provides healthcare employers with qualified staff to fill the changing and growing need for Medical Assistants.
Training Information With support by the NYC Department of Small Business Services, the enhanced Medical Assistant training program will begin on March 3, 2015 at Hostos Community College. The training:
Is aimed at both incumbent workers and jobseekers. Is 450 hours and includes a substantial externship component. Prepares students for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification exam
offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Is at no cost to students or employers.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements Adults, preferably 21 years of age or older Incumbent worker – currently working in the healthcare field Desire to continue to work in the healthcare sector Score at a minimum 10th grade level in both Reading and Math Maintain a class schedule of two evenings weekly and all day Saturdays for 10-12 months Complete and submit medical and drug screening clearance forms
