Ocean Action Project Be the difference you want to see in the ocean. Welcome to the Ocean Action Project - an opportunity for individuals like you to propel ocean protection priorities in your community. We’re looking for innovative actions, on the ground and in the water, to help protect sharks and rays and reduce and prevent marine debris locally. Eligible applicants will: • Implement a project focused on helping protect sharks and/or rays or tackle marine debris. We’re looking for grassroots, innovative projects, those able to influence local change and with measurable results. • Keep the Project AWARE movement regularly up to date and report results within twelve months following funding. • Request funding that is directly related to the project (indirect costs, overhead and other expenses not directly related will not be considered). • Request support from a competitive funding pool. We’d like to hear about your conservation goals: make them SMART - Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely.

7. How Long?Tell us when the project will start and end. Include any important dates or milestones.

8. What Happens Next?All projects and photos are checked to make sure they fit the guidelines. Project AWARE Foundation will choose the strongest applications. If successful you will receive an email and your project will be displayed on our Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/ProjectAWAREFoundation for community viewing and voting. This is where people can view and vote for it.

9. Get Your Friends to VoteThe winning projects will be the one with the most votes. So make sure you tell all your friends and family to visit www.facebook.com/ProjectAWAREFoundation to improve your chances of winning. Spread the word through your social networks and website.

10. Start Your ProjectWe’ll look forward to regular updates on your project through the My Ocean community at www.projectaware.org/MyOcean and we’re here to help. At the end of your project you’ll submit an official report back.

Ocean Action Project: Terms and ConditionsPlease read the Terms and Conditions of Project AWARE Foundation’s Ocean Action Project. You must agree to accept and comply with these Terms and Conditions to participate in the Ocean Action Project. By submitting your application you agree to accept these Terms and Conditions.

SUBMISSION OF ENTRY1. To apply to the Ocean Action Project individuals and organisations must complete all sections of the application form in full and in English only. Applications received in languages other than English will be returned.2. All materials provided via the application process including photos may be used by Project AWARE Foundation its representatives or others authorized by Project AWARE Foundation for promotional purposes including internet promotion, without compensation. Your application and photo submitted must be your own original work and you warrant that you have the right to allow Project AWARE Foundation’s use of the photo. 3. You must have obtained any and all consents or approvals for you to submit your application.4. Your entry must not violate the rights of another person or company by using their names, images, logos, etc without their express written consent.5. Project AWARE Foundation may remove your posted photo at any time, without notice to you, for any reason (i.e. someone claims the photo is theirs, not yours, even though it is yours).

FUNDING RESTRICTIONSProject AWARE Foundation will not fund salaries, capital expenses, tuition fees or fringe benefits unless the applicant can show how this resource will be utilised once the project has ended. Example: a shark tag would be acceptable while a computer or an underwater camera most likely not.

VOTING1. Voting for the Ocean Action Project is open to anyone. Applicants can also cast a vote for their favourite Ocean Action Project and rally their community for support.2. Visitors to www.facebook.com/ProjectAWAREFoundation can vote for their favourite by clicking the ‘vote’ button under their favourite project, during the voting period. 3. Eligible individuals can vote for a particular entry once only; however, they may vote for as many entries as they wish.4. The decisions of the judges and the voters are final. For further details on voting read official rules via www.projectaware.org/OceanActionProject.

FUNDINGIf the applicant is rewarded funding the following is required:

1. The applicant will sign an agreement to receive the funds.2. The applicant will maintain and provide a bi-monthly update on a My Ocean profile (projectaware.org) with blog posts, images and video if applicable. Failure to comply with this requirement may prevent the applicant from receiving future support.

3. The project will be published on the Project AWARE Foundation website (projectaware.org), social networking sites and other websites and media Project AWARE Foundation deems appropriate.4. The applicant will work with a dedicated Project AWARE Foundation staff member and respond to any enquiries.5. The applicant will keep accurate financial records in relation to the expenses of this project and provide these to Project AWARE Foundation if requested.6. The applicant will acknowledge Project AWARE Foundation’s support throughout the project as appropriate. The applicant shall provide the acknowledgement in advance to Project AWARE Foundation for Project AWARE Foundation’s prior review and approval.7. Funds will be deposited into the applicant’s bank account or via cheque in the currency of their local Project AWARE Foundation office upon receipt of the signed agreement.8. If the applicant is no longer able to carry out the project after voting has ended, Project AWARE Foundation staff will choose the most suitable project in its place and in some instances where funding has already been awarded, request return of these funds. 9. Through the duration of the project, Project AWARE may ask project recipients to fill in a progress report. These must be submitted to Project AWARE within 2 weeks.10. Upon completion of the project the applicant will complete a short report regarding the project outcome and how the funds were spent.

OCEAN ACTION PROJECT START AND END DATESApplications must be received before 5:00 PM Pacific Time 31st October 2013. All entries must be received within the entry period to be eligible. Project AWARE may extend the entry period, modify or terminate at any time at its discretion. Applicants will be notified in writing via email prior to the Voting Opening whether they are successful or not. Voting will open on 25th November 2013 8.00 AM Pacific Time and continue for 2 weeks ending 8th December. Project AWARE may extend the voting period, modify or terminate at any time at its discretion.

HOW WILL YOUR OCEAN ACTION PROJECT BE USED?All photos submitted will be subject to Project AWARE Foundation’s usage terms, per the section ‘Materials Submitted to Project AWARE’ of Project AWARE Foundation’s privacy policy located on projectaware.org’s website. By entering the Ocean Action Project, you agree to the terms of use. We are not responsible for any unauthorized use of your entry by visitors to this website. Shortstack reserves the right to occasionally email participants exclusive deals and chances to win prizes. If you do not wish to receive this email, you can unsubscribe.

HOW DO YOU SUBMIT YOUR OCEAN ACTION PROJECT?Fill out the application form and email it along with an image to support your project to your nearest office before 31st October 2013. We are not responsible for applications that we do not receive for any reason and will automatically disqualify incomplete or ineligible applications for any reason above. All winners will be directly notified by Project AWARE Foundation staff.
