Safari Montage (Creation Station) Training

Objectives: All teachers will successfully be able to:#1 - Upload instructional resources in Safari Montage Creation Station (Web Link, PowerPoint, Word and Flipchart file)#2 - Organize instructional resources in a Playlist

The Creation Station module is used to upload web links and teacher files to Safari Montage. Once uploaded, they can be added to a playlist.

Uploading a Web Link

1. From the Dashboard, select “Creation Station”

2. Select “Web Link Upload”

3. Type the following information in each field:a. Title: b. Copy and paste the URL c. Description: (See example below.)

4. Set Media Type to “Web Link”

5. Click “Save”6. You now see the following screen:

7. You have now added a Web Link to Safari Montage.

Uploading Files to Safari Montage

The following file formats are allowed in Safari Montage:2

Now you will upload a PowerPoint, Word and FlipChart file to Safari Montage.

Uploading a PowerPoint File

1. Login to Safari Montage2. Go to the Dashboard3. Select “Creation Station”

4. You should see this Copyright Warning!

5. Select “Agree”

6. Select “Media Upload”

7. Type the following information in each field:a. Title: Type in a title for your mediab. Description: Type a description using important key words (See example below.)

8. Select “Browse/Upload File”9. Find the PowerPoint file you wish to upload.

10. Highlight the file you wish to upload. 11. Click on “Open” (you will see a message “Virus Scan”)12. You will see this message…

13. You have now added a PowerPoint file to Safari Montage.

Uploading a Word File

1. Login to Safari Montage2. Go to the Dashboard3. Select “Creation Station”

4. Select “Media Upload”

5. Type the following information in each field:a. Title: Type a title for your word documentb. Description: Type a description of your document using important key words. (See example

below.)

6. Select “Browse/Upload File”7. Find the Word document you wish to upload

8. Highlight the file Word Document.docx

9. Click on “Open” (you will see a message “Virus Scan”)

11. You have now added a Word document to Safari Montage.

Uploading a FlipChart File

1. Login to Safari Montage2. Go to the Dashboard3. Select “Creation Station”

4. Select “Media Upload”

5. Type the following information in each field:a. Title: Type a title for your FlipChartb. Description: Type a description of your FlipChart (See example below.)

6. Select “Browse/Upload File”7. Find the flipchart file you wish to upload.

8. Highlight the file for the FlipChart9. Click on “Open” (you will see a message “Virus Scan”)10. You will see this message…

11. You have now added a FlipChart to Safari Montage.

Putting It All Together in a Playlist

Now that you have added a web link, PowerPoint, Word and Flipchart file to Creation Station, you are ready to organize it in a Playlist. Adapt this example by searching for a keyword that is common to the files you uploaded. Do the following:

1. From the Dashboard, click on “Playlists”2. In the upper right corner of the screen, select “New”. You will now name your Playlist.3. Type the following information:

a. Playlist Title: Name your playlistb. Subject: c. Grade Range: Pre-K to ?d. My Folder: My Playlistse. Share this Playlist? No (See example below.) You may choose to share it to our school.

4. Select “Save”5. This playlist is now your “Active” playlist. You should now see it in the top right corner of the screen.

6. Now you will add the resources (to your Active Playlist) that you uploaded to Creation Station.7. On the Safari Montage main toolbar, click on “Search”8. In the Keyword field, type: 9. In the Publisher field, click on the dropdown arrow and choose CreationStation

10. Click on “Search”11. You now see the following tabs with files in them.

12. Add a Web Link a. Click on the “Web” tab. Find your (Web Link) that you uploaded.

b. Click on the to add it to your Playlist.c. You have now added your Weblink to your Playlist. (In the upper right corner of the screen, your

Playlist contains “1 item”.)

13. Add the PowerPoint Filea. Click on the “Documents” tab. Find the PowerPoint you uploaded

b. To add it to your Playlist, click on the plus sign to Add c. You have now added your PowerPoint to your Playlist. (In the upper right corner of the screen,

your Playlist contains “2 items”.)

14. Add the Word Documenta. On the “Documents” tab, find the Word Document you uploaded

b. To add it to your Playlist, click on the plus sign to Addc. You have now added your word document to your Playlist. (In the upper right corner of the screen,

your Playlist contains “3 items”.)

15. Add the FlipChart Filea. Click on the “Flipcharts” tab, and find the Flipchart you uploaded

b. To add it to your Playlist, click on the plus sign to Add c. You have now added your Flipchart to your Playlist. (In the upper right corner of the screen, you

Playlist contains “4 items”.)

16. Opening your Playlista. In the upper right corner of the screen, click on your Playlist “NAME OF YOUR PLAYLIST” to open it.b. Your Playlist should look like this:

17. Change the order of Playlist items by clicking on the blue arrows.

Activity #3 – Creating a Safari Playlist

Objective: Teachers will successfully organize instructional resources, in a Playlist, to use with a lesson.

1. Gather all your resource files that you need to teach the lesson you planned this morning. 2. Copy the files to your mapped “W” drive. (To find that drive, click on My Computer.) 3. Login to Safari and begin to upload your resources to Creation Station. 4. Create a Playlist. You will use this Playlist when you teach your lesson that aligns with your 1st targeted

common assessment.a. Add your resources to your Playlist.b. Remember you can change the order of the resources to match the order of your lesson.

5. Once your Playlist is completed, print a copy to share.
