Creating a site in WordPress1. Go to Wordpress.com2. Click “Get Started” or “Crear un sitio” or “Crear sitio

web” and in the first step, select “Una página de bienvenida para mi sitio”

3. Follow the instructions. When it says to choose a “theme” or “tema,” choose whichever looks good to you

4. When it says “Let’s Find a Domain” or “Busquemos un dominio,” choose carefully--this will determine how your users get to your site

Your domain will usually be the same as the name of your site, but with no spaces or punctuation. If it is already taken by another WordPress user, it will show an option with numbers. Choose that or try something more unique. Make sure you choose a domain that says “Free” or “Gratis”!

5. When it asks to “Pick a Plan” or “Selecciona un plan que te encaje,” choose the free one

Click “Seleccionar Gratuito”

6. Create your account with your school Gmail address

You should see this screen. If you don’t, ask for help:

Log in to your account (if you are not already logged in).

You will see a section on the side of the page that looks like this:

Page 4: nateinspain.files.wordpress.com  · Web viewFollow the instructions. When it says to choose a “theme” or “tema,” choose whichever looks good to you

This is your “Sidebar,” where you can control your site.

Every time you make a change it will be from here.

8. Go to your website.

Open a new tab in your browser and enter MYDOMAINNAME.wordpress.com in the URL bar of your browser.

Page 5: nateinspain.files.wordpress.com  · Web viewFollow the instructions. When it says to choose a “theme” or “tema,” choose whichever looks good to you

Except enter your actual domain name instead of MYDOMAINNAME

For example, my website’s URL would be nateinspain.wordpress.com

9. This is a real website now--anyone who types in that URL will see the same thing. They do not have to be logged in. So make sure you only put things you want everyone to know! If you want proof, try going to the website of the person next to you.

10. Go to “Settings” or “Ajustes” at the bottom of the sidebar from the other tab

Page 6: nateinspain.files.wordpress.com  · Web viewFollow the instructions. When it says to choose a “theme” or “tema,” choose whichever looks good to you

11. Choose your site’s title and enter it where it says “Site Title” or “Título del Sitio”

Choose carefully! You could change it later but it would confuse your users

12. Go to the tab that is your page (MYDOMAINNAME.wordpress.com) and

14. Add text and images to the new page

Click on “Pages” or “Páginas” in your dashboard then choose the one you want to edit from the list

23. Go to the tab where you look at your site and click on “BLOG”

Now, the most important part--congratulate yourself! You now have your very own website with two pages and a blog. I will have you add more things on your own, with the requirements on the next page. You can change it or post to it any time you want, and anyone on the internet can see it. Just
