Lab 6.1 Install Windows 7 using VirtualBox

Instructions:

Download from: \\cec_fil1\Tech\

1) Open up VirtualBox and click the 'New' button with a blue sun icon.

2) Click next in this following dialog box that will appear:

3) Type the name of the Virtual Machine (of your choice) and select Windows 7as the OS type, and click Next.

*Tip : If you input Windows 7 as the name of your VM, the OS Type will auto-adjust toWindows 7.

4) Next, select the amount of RAM in this window and click Next:

*If you don't have enough RAM to spare, put a bit lesser than 512 MB, but Aero and some other features might be disabled.

7) Select 'Dynamically expanding storage in this window:

9) Now is the time to go to the Settings page of of your new VM and add or disable settings, according to your choice.

10) Double-click on your new Virtual Machine, and a few dialog boxes will popup, ignore them, but NOT the one that says:

'First Run Wizard' .

11) If you are using a bootable USB / CD / DVD , navigate to it by clicking the folder icon with a green arrow. If you are using an ISO, navigate for it through the same way, and click Next once you're done.

12) Windows 7 will now install. Installation will take not much time (probably lesser than 10 minutes), as you will be installing a custom install. (*Remember to select 'Custom Install', not 'Upgrade'.

13) The setup will ask you some info sometimes during the installation process, so don't leave your computer.

14) Don’t install updates, get ready for the next lab!

6. Type ipconfig and press Enter. The computer displays its IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway. Leave it open.

Write it down here:

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

7. Now repeat Step 4 and Click the ‘Use the following IP address:’

8. Enter the IPv4 Address with the same first three sets of numbers but change the fourth set to .200 in the IP address text box.

For example, if IP address from Step 6 was 192.168.54.10, change to 192.168.54.200.

9. Enter same subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS server address found from Step 6.

10. Go back to cmd prompt

11. Now you need to ping the default gateway IP address from step 6. For example, if the gateway is 192.168.54.1, then type ‘ping 192.168.54.1’The Windows computer sends four ICMP packages to the gateway and indicates that is has received four replies. If you do not get replies, then troubleshoot and start from Step 1.

12. Open the web browser to see if you can get the Internet.
