God Speaks Today

I. Those who hold to the theory that the Holy Spirit is no longer working in today’s world say that God only speaks to us today through the bible. This theory comes from the belief that “the perfect” mentioned in 1Cor 13:10 is the bible and not Jesus at the second coming. With that in mind let’s look at some scriptures and discover other ways God speaks so that you can formulate your own opinion.

IKing 19:11-1511 Then He said, "Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD." And behold, the LORD passed

by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake;

12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.13 So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the

entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"14 And he said, "I have been very zealous for the LORD God of hosts; because the children of Israel have

forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life."

15 Then the LORD said to him: "Go, return on your way to the Wilderness of Damascus; and when you arrive, anoint Hazael as king over Syria.

John 10:24-3124 The Jews gathered around him, saying, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ,

tell us plainly."25 Jesus answered, "I did tell you, but you do not believe. The miracles I do in my Father's name speak

for me,26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep.27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's

hand.30 I and the Father are one."31 Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him,

John 16:12-1612 "I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own;

he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.14 He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and

make it known to you.16 "In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me."

Acts 13:1-41 In the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of

Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul.2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and

Saul for the work to which I have called them."3 So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.

4 The two of them, sent on their way by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and sailed from there to Cyprus.

1 Sam 23:1-4 and 9-121 When David was told, "Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and are looting the threshing

floors,"2 he inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go and attack these Philistines?" The LORD answered him,

"Go, attack the Philistines and save Keilah."3 But David's men said to him, "Here in Judah we are afraid. How much more, then, if we go to Keilah

against the Philistine forces!"4 Once again David inquired of the LORD, and the LORD answered him, "Go down to Keilah, for I am

going to give the Philistines into your hand."

9 When David learned that Saul was plotting against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, "Bring the ephod."

10 David said, "O LORD, God of Israel, your servant has heard definitely that Saul plans to come to Keilah and destroy the town on account of me.

11 Will the citizens of Keilah surrender me to him? Will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? O LORD, God of Israel, tell your servant." And the LORD said, "He will."

12 Again David asked, "Will the citizens of Keilah surrender me and my men to Saul?" And the LORD said, "They will."

Luke 11:5-105 Then he said to them, "Suppose one of you has a friend, and he goes to him at midnight and says,

'Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,6 because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have nothing to set before him.'7 "Then the one inside answers, 'Don't bother me. The door is already locked, and my children are with

me in bed. I can't get up and give you anything.'8 I tell you, though he will not get up and give him the bread because he is his friend, yet because of the

man's boldness he will get up and give him as much as he needs.9 "So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be

opened to you.10 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

1. Gods Speaks Through The Bible: God speaks to us today through the bible, He does this through lessons, teachings, parables, and examples.

2 Tim 3:14-1714 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know

those from whom you learned it,15 and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salva-

tion through faith in Christ Jesus.16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteous-

ness,17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2. God Speaks Through Revelatory Knowledge: God speaks to us with expanded meanings as we read the bible, and through others as they teach or share the nuggets of wisdom God showed them as they read.

1 Cor 14:6 and 266 Now, brothers, if I come to you and speak in tongues, what good will I be to you, unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or word of instruction?

26 What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of in-struction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church.

Gal 1:10-1310 Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still

trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.11 I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up.12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus

Christ.13 For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of

God and tried to destroy it.

Eph 1:15-1815 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints,16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of

wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to

which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,

3. God Speaks In Your Spirit: God speaks in a still small voice through the Holy Spirit in our spirit, au-dible to you as a thought usually.

Acts 10:18-2118 They called out, asking if Simon who was known as Peter was staying there.19 While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, "Simon, three men are looking

for you.20 So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them."21 Peter went down and said to the men, "I'm the one you're looking for. Why have you come?"

Acts 13:1-31 In the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of

John 15:26-2726 When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out

from the Father, he will testify about me.

27 And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.

John 16:12-1612 "I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own;

he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.14 He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make

it known to you.16 "In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me."

John 8:4747 He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to

God."

John 10:25-2825 Jesus answered, "I did tell you, but you do not believe. The miracles I do in my Father's name speak

for me,26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep.27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.

4. God speaks in an audible voice: This is out loud for all to hear if others are around or for you to hear out loud when alone.

Matt 3:16-1716 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and

he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him.17 And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."

Acts 9:3-83 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?"5 "Who are you, Lord?" Saul asked. "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting," he replied.6 "Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do."7 The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone.8 Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by

the hand into Damascus.

John 12:27-3027 "Now my heart is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? No, it was for this

very reason I came to this hour.28 Father, glorify your name!" Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it, and will glorify it

again."29 The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him.30 Jesus said, "This voice was for your benefit, not mine.

Dan 4:30-3230 he said, "Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for

the glory of my majesty?"31 The words were still on his lips when a voice came from heaven, "This is what is decreed for you,

King Nebuchadnezzar: Your royal authority has been taken from you.32 You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals; you will eat grass like cattle.

Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over the king-doms of men and gives them to anyone he wishes."

Isa 6:7-87 With it he touched my mouth and said, "See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and

your sin atoned for."8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said,

"Here am I. Send me!"

5. God Speaks Through Prophecy: The gift of prophecy still brings us the word of the Lord today. God is still using the prophetic utterances to bring words to his people.

1 Cor 12:7-117 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.8 To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge

by means of the same Spirit,9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to an-

other speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.

1 Cor 14:1-41 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy.2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands

him; he utters mysteries with his spirit.3 But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort.

(edification, exhortation, consolation)4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.

4395 propheteuo (prof-ate-yoo'-o);from 4396; to foretell events, divine, speak under inspiration, exercise the prophetic office: KJV-- prophesy. to prophesy, to be a prophet, to speak forth by divine inspirations, to predict: 1) to prophesy 2) with the idea of foretelling future events pertaining especially to the kingdom of God 3) to utter forth, to declare, a thing which can only be known by divine revelation 4) to break forth under sudden impulse in lofty discourse or praise of the divine counsels; under like prompting, to teach, refute, reprove, admonish, comfort others 5) to act as a prophet, to discharge the prophetic office

See attachment 1 about Asaph prophesying with cymbals.

20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own inter-pretation.

21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

6. God speaks to us through words of wisdom and words of knowledge: This wisdom, and this knowledge that is given by the Holy Spirit are sometimes single words, sentence fragments, and scriptures. Knowledge of past and present events that could not have be known except by the revelation of the Spirit.

1 Cor 12:7-97 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through

the same Spirit,9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,

Luke 2:25-3025 Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for

the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's

Christ.27 Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do

for him what the custom of the Law required,28 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:29 "Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace.30 For my eyes have seen your salvation,

a) the general knowledge of Christian religion b) the deeper more perfect and enlarged knowledge of this religion, such as belongs to the more advanced c) especially of things lawful and unlawful for Christians d) moral wisdom, such as is seen in right living

Wisdom : The ability to apply spiritual truth to a specific issue in an especially relevant fashion, and to make proper choices in difficult situations, based on that same information. Word of Wisdom : The supernatural wisdom given to man through the Holy Spirit that reveals God’s purpose or perspective to a specific circum-stance.

Knowledge : The ability to discover, accumulate, analyze, and clarify information wich is pertinent to the growth and well being of the body. Word of Knowledge : The supernatural revelation of knowledge given by the Holy Spirit, concerning a specific situation event or person.

7. God speaks through anointed teaching , preaching, and conversation : God speaks by anointing indi-viduals with the Holy Spirit, anointing others to preach and teach, and by anointing you with knowledge.

Luke 4:18-1918 "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has

sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the op-pressed,

19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

I Jn 2:19-2119 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would

have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.21 I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no

lie comes from the truth.

I Jn 2:26-2826 I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray.27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach

you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit-- just as it has taught you, remain in him.

28 And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming.

Isa 61:1-71 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news

to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and re-lease from darkness for the prisoners,

2 to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,

3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion-- to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.

Page 8: · Web viewDan 4:30-32 30he said, "Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?" 31The words were still on

4 They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.

5 Aliens will shepherd your flocks; foreigners will work your fields and vineyards.6 And you will be called priests of the LORD, you will be named ministers of our God. You will feed on

the wealth of nations, and in their riches you will boast.7 Instead of their shame my people will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace they will re-

joice in their inheritance; and so they will inherit a double portion in their land, and everlasting joy will be theirs.

Isa 10:24-2724 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD of hosts: "O My people, who dwell in Zion, do not be afraid of the

Assyrian. He shall strike you with a rod and lift up his staff against you, in the manner of Egypt.25 "For yet a very little while and the indignation will cease, as will My anger in their destruction."26 And the LORD of hosts will stir up a scourge for him like the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb;

as His rod was on the sea, so will He lift it up in the manner of Egypt.27 It shall come to pass in that day that his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, and his yoke

from your neck, and the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil.

8. God speaks to us today through dreams : Of course not all dreams are God’s messages yet there can be the occasional heavenly message to warn, instruct, uplift, guide, and or encourage us as well as non be-lievers.

Acts 2:15-2115 These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning!16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:17 "'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will

prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will

prophesy.19 I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of

smoke.20 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious

day of the Lord.21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'

Joel 2:27-2927 Then you will know that I am in Israel, that I am the LORD your God, and that there is no other; never

again will my people be shamed.28 'And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your

old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.29 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.

Dan 1:17-2017 To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learn-

ing. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds.18 At the end of the time set by the king to bring them in, the chief official presented them to Nebuchad-

nezzar.

Page 9: · Web viewDan 4:30-32 30he said, "Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?" 31The words were still on

19 The king talked with them, and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king's service.

20 In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.

9. God speaks to us through Visions : While we are awake God brings to us pictures, scenes, or movies in our mind, also for guidance, warning, clarification, encouragement, instruction , and edification.

Acts 10:1-61 At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion in what was known as the Italian Regi-

ment.2 He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to

God regularly.3 One day at about three in the afternoon he had a vision. He distinctly saw an angel of God, who came

to him and said, "Cornelius!"4 Cornelius stared at him in fear. "What is it, Lord?" he asked. The angel answered, "Your prayers and

gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God.5 Now send men to Joppa to bring back a man named Simon who is called Peter.6 He is staying with Simon the tanner, whose house is by the sea."

Acts 18:9-119 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: "Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent.10 For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this

city."11 So Paul stayed for a year and a half, teaching them the word of God.

Acts 9:10-1310 In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, "Ananias!"

"Yes, Lord," he answered.11 The Lord told him, "Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named

Saul, for he is praying.12 In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight."13 "Lord," Ananias answered, "I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to

your saints in Jerusalem.Acts 16:9-109 During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, "Come over to

Macedonia and help us."10 After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had

called us to preach the gospel to them.

10. God speaks to us today through Impressions : The impressions we often get are the feeling of peace or unrest, a perception, and or thoughts.

Neh 7:5

Page 10: · Web viewDan 4:30-32 30he said, "Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?" 31The words were still on

5 So my God put it into my heart to assemble the nobles, the officials and the common people for regis-tration by families. I found the genealogical record of those who had been the first to return. This is what I found written there:

Acts 14:8-108 In Lystra there sat a man crippled in his feet, who was lame from birth and had never walked.9 He listened to Paul as he was speaking. Paul looked directly at him, and percieved that he had faith to

be healed10 and called out, "Stand up on your feet!" At that, the man jumped up and began to walk.

Luke 10:5-95 "When you enter a house, first say, 'Peace to this house.'6 If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you.7 Stay in that house, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do

not move around from house to house.8 "When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is set before you.9 Heal the sick who are there and tell them, 'The kingdom of God is near you.'

11. God speaks to us through Angelic visitations : God has always sent His angels not only to protect us and to render aid, but to speak a message to us as well.

Acts 27:23-2523 Last night an angel of the God whose I am and whom I serve stood beside me24 and said, 'Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given

you the lives of all who sail with you.'25 So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me.

Heb 1:1414 Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?

Luke 2:9-119 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were

terrified.10 But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the

people.11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.

Acts 12:77 Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and

woke him up. "Quick, get up!" he said, and the chains fell off Peter's wrists.

Acts 12:21-2321 On the appointed day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address

to the people.22 They shouted, "This is the voice of a god, not of a man."

23 Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.

12. God speaks to us today through miracles: God’s signs, wonders, healings, and marvelous creation speak to us without words.

1 Cor 12:7-107 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.8 To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge

by means of the same Spirit,9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to an-

other speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.

John 14:11-1411 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evi-

dence of the miracles themselves.12 I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even

greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

Rom 15:18-1918 I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the

Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done--19 by the power of signs and miracles, through the power of the Spirit. So from Jerusalem all the way

around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.

Acts 19:11-1611 God did extraordinary miracles through Paul,12 so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses

were cured and the evil spirits left them.13 Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over

those who were demon-possessed. They would say, "In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out."

14 Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this.15 [One day] the evil spirit answered them, "Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?"16 Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a

beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding.

1 Cor 12:2828 And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers

of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administra-tion, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues.

13. God speaks to us through Life experiences : In experiences as well as consequences God speaks to us and teaches us. During trials, common occurrences, and even object lessons in our homes God speaks.

Ps 37:2525 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging

bread.

Prov 7:6-106 At the window of my house I looked out through the lattice.7 I saw among the simple, I noticed among the young men, a youth who lacked judgment.8 He was going down the street near her corner, walking along in the direction of her house9 at twilight, as the day was fading, as the dark of night set in.10 Then out came a woman to meet him, dressed like a prostitute and with crafty intent.

1 Cor 2:14-1614 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are

foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.15 The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judg-

ment:16 "For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ.

Attachment 1 Asaph prophesied with musical instruments1 Chr 15:15-2515 And the sons of the Levites carried the ark of God on their shoulders, with the poles thereon as Moses

had commanded according to the word of the LORD.16 Then David spoke to the chiefs of the Levites to appoint their relatives the singers, with instruments of

music, harps, lyres, loud-sounding cymbals, to raise sounds of joy.17 So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel, and from his relatives, Asaph the son of Berechiah;

and from the sons of Merari their relatives, Ethan the son of Kushaiah,18 and with them their relatives of the second rank, Zechariah, Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni,

Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel, the gatekeepers.19 So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan {were appointed} to sound aloud cymbals of bronze;20 and Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah, with harps {tuned} to

alamoth;21 and Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, Jeiel, and Azaziah, to lead with lyres tuned to the

sheminith.22 And Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was {in charge of} the singing; he gave instruction in singing be-

cause he was skillful.23 And Berechiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers for the ark.24 And Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, blew the

trumpets before the ark of God. Obed-edom and Jehiah also {were} gatekeepers for the ark.25 So {it was} David, with the elders of Israel and the captains over thousands, who went to bring up the

ark of the covenant of the LORD from the house of Obed-edom with joy.

1 Chr 16:4-124 He appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, to make petition, to give

thanks, and to praise the LORD, the God of Israel:5 Asaph was the chief, Zechariah second, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah,

Obed-Edom and Jeiel. They were to play the lyres and harps, Asaph was to sound the cymbals,

6 and Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests were to blow the trumpets regularly before the ark of the covenant of God.

7 That day David first committed to Asaph and his associates this psalm of thanks to the LORD:8 Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done.9 Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.10 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.11 Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.12 Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,

1 Chr 25:1-3

1 Moreover, David and the commanders of the army set apart for the service {some} of the sons of As-aph and of Heman and of Jeduthun, who {were} to prophesy with lyres, harps, and cymbals; and the number of those who performed their service was:

2 Of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asharelah; the sons of Asaph {were} under the direction of Asaph, who prophesied under the direction of the king.

3 Of Jeduthun, the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the direction of their father Jeduthun with the harp, who prophesied in giving thanks and prais-ing the LORD.

5012 naba' (naw-baw'); Prophesya primitive root; to prophesy, i.e. speak (or sing) by inspiration (in prediction or simple discourse): KJV-- prophesy (-ing), make self a prophet.a) (Niphal) to prophesy a) under influence of divine spirit b) (Hithpael) to prophesy a) under influence of divine spirit b) of false prophets

2 Chr 5:12-1412 All the Levites who were musicians-- Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun and their sons and relatives-- stood on

the east side of the altar, dressed in fine linen and playing cymbals, harps and lyres. They were accom-panied by 120 priests sounding trumpets.

13 The trumpeters and singers joined in unison, as with one voice, to give praise and thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, they raised their voices in praise to the LORD and sang: "He is good; his love endures forever." Then the temple of the LORD was filled with a cloud,

14 and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the temple of God.
