1.4 DESIGN / PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

1.5 SUBMITTALS

A. Submit under provisions of Section 01300.

B. Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:1. Preparation instructions and recommendations.2. Dimensions, load carrying capacity, and performance standards compliance.3. Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.4. Installation instructions.

C. Shop Drawings: Reflected ceiling plan indicating ceiling layouts, dimensions and perimeter conditions. Indicate grid layout and related dimensioning, junctions with other work or ceiling finishes, interrelation of mechanical and electrical items related to system. Indicate method of suspension where interference exists.

D. LEED Submittals: Provide documentation of how the requirements of Credit will be met:1. List of proposed materials with recycled content. Indicate post-consumer recycled

content and pre-consumer recycled content for each product having recycled content.2. Product data and certification letter indicating percentages by weight of post-

consumer and pre-consumer recycled content for products having recycled content.3. Submit GREENGUARD certification for VOC and formaldehyde emissions.

E. Selection Samples: For each finish product specified, two complete sets of color chips representing manufacturer's full range of available colors and patterns.

F. Verification Samples: For each finish product specified, two samples, actual size of ceiling panels, and two samples minimum size 12 inches (300 mm) long of main tees and cross tees square, representing actual product, color, finish and patterns.

G. Manufacturer's Certificates: Certify products meet or exceed specified requirements.

H. Closeout Submittals: Provide manufacturer's maintenance instructions that include recommendations for periodic cleaning and maintenance of all components.

1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Company specializing in manufacturing products specified in this section with minimum three years documented experience.1. Manufacturer member in good standing of CISCA (Ceiling and Interior Systems

Construction Association).

B. Installer Qualifications: Company specializing in performing Work of this section with minimum three years documented experience.

C. Provide seismic design of suspended ceiling under direct supervision of Professional Engineer experienced in design of this Work and licensed at Project location.

D. Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up for evaluation of surface preparation techniques and

application workmanship.1. Finish areas designated by Architect.2. Do not proceed with remaining work until workmanship, color, and sheen are

approved by Architect.3. Refinish mock-up area as required to produce acceptable work.

a. Pre-installation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site minimum one week before installation. Agenda shall include project conditions, coordination with work of other trades, and layout of items which penetrate ceilings.

1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLINGa. Deliver in unopened bundles and store in a dry place with adequate air

circulation. Do not deliver material to building until wet conditions such as concrete, plaster, paint, and adhesives have been completed and cured.

b. Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.

B. Protect system components from excessive moisture in shipment, storage, and handling.

1.8 SEQUENCING

A. Sequence Work to ensure acoustic ceilings are not installed until building is enclosed, sufficient heat is provided, dust generating activities have terminated, and overhead work is completed, tested, and approved.

B. Install acoustic units after interior wet work is dry.

C. Ensure that products of this section are supplied to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.

1.9 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's recommended limits.1. Verify weather tightness of area to receive suspension system prior to installation.2. Wet trades work to be thoroughly dry and complete prior to suspension system

installation.3. Begin installation only when temperature and humidity conditions closely approximate

interior conditions, which will exist when area is complete and occupied.4. Heating and air conditioning systems to be operating prior to, during, and after

installation.

1.10 WARRANTYa. Manufacturer's Warranty: Provide manufacturer's standard warranty against

manufacturing defects in material or workmanship when installed in accordance with the current CISCA Handbook and ASTM C367.

2. Warranty Period: 1 year.

1.11 EXTRA MATERIALS

A. See Section 01600 - Product Requirements, for additional provisions.

B. Deliver extra acoustical units for Owner's use in maintenance. Label and store where directed by the Owner including codes used on the Drawings. Do not deliver to the Project site until the Owner is prepared to receive and store maintenance materials.1. Tile: Furnish 5 percent of total acoustic unit area of extra tile to Owner.2. Panels: Furnish 5 percent of total acoustic unit area of extra panels to Owner.

3. Suspension System Components: Furnish 5 percent of each exposed component of the quantity installed.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

B. Verify layout of hangers will not interfere with other work.

C. Verify layout conditions will not adversely affect installation.

D. If layout or substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of

unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

3.2 PREPARATION

A. Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.

B. Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

3.3 INSTALLATION

A. Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

B. Install suspension system in accordance with ASTM C 636 and as supplemented in this section.

C. Measure each ceiling area and establish layout of panels to balance border widths at opposite edges of each ceiling.

D. Suspend ceiling hangers from building's structural members, plumb and free from contact with insulation or other objects within ceiling plenum. Splay hangers only where required and to miss obstructions; offset resulting horizontal forces by bracing, countersplaying, or other equally effective means.

E. Where width of ducts and other construction within ceiling plenum produces hanger spacings that interfere with location of hangers, use trapezes or equivalent devices. When steel framing does not permit installation of hanger wires at spacing required, install carrying channels or other supplemental support for attachment of hanger wires.

F. Do not support ceilings directly from permanent metal forms or floor deck; anchor into concrete slabs.

G. Do not attach hangers to steel deck tabs.

H. Install edge moldings and trim of type specified at perimeter of open cell ceiling area and where necessary to conceal edges of panels. Miter corners accurately and connect securely.

I. Install suspension system runners so they are square and securely interlocked with one another. Remove and replace dented, bent, or kinked members.

J. Lay-In Panels:1. Fit panels in place, free from damaged edges or other defects detrimental to

appearance and function.2. Lay units in accordance with the approved reflected ceiling plan.3. Install units after above ceiling work is complete.4. Install units level, in uniform plane, and free from twist, warp, and dents. Press panels

from above to set into grids. Do not pull from face.

3.4 ERECTION TOLERANCES

A. Maximum Variation from Flat and Level Surface: 1/8 inch in 10 feet (3 mm in 3 m).

B. Maximum Variation from Plumb of Grid Members Caused by Eccentric Loads: 2 degrees.

3.5 PROTECTION AND CLEANING

A. Protect installed products until completion of project.

B. Clean adjacent surfaces and remove unused materials and debris from site.

C. Clean panels by vacuuming, brushing, or washing with water. Allow panels to dry after washing, before replacing.

D. Remove and reinstall improperly installed material.

E. Remove damaged ceiling panels, replace with undamaged ceiling panels.

F. Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
